Wow, Gone for the day and all this news upon return !!!
Congrats on the pups Jim.
Bigfam4me Wish I knew what to say. Could be cocci. Even if you are feeding medicated feed you can still give them the corrid medication.
The amount in the food is not enough to cure the cocci if that is what it is. It just helps to prevent it but doesn't always work.
Make sure the bedding stays nice an dry. I've had losses in the past from what I'm thinking was mold. I use flower pot saucers turned upside down to set my waterers on and one time I lifted it up to change their water and the chicks started picking at the wet bedding. Not to long after that I lost some chicks. I'm thinking it was mold. Even if you can't see it, it may still be there.
If that is the case I don't know what would work.
Do you have any ornabac or probiotics you can put in their food or water?
Sending little chickie prayers your way for the little ones.
I went to get feed today but didn't call in my order so they only had 300 lbs. Not my usual 900 or 1000.
Anyway I showed them the bag I got from Magee's (Bigzio's feed store) and they said they probably can't make it that cheap because Magee's is close to Clintonville and they probably don't have to have their corn trucked in like my feed store does.
I started calling around again yesterday for prices on duck feed and Magee's is only $10.50 a bag !!! He has to order it !!!! Holy cow. Sure wish he was closer. He won't get it in until next week. Don't know if my 300lbs will last that long.....
Decisions decisions !!! So Yes Bigz, sorry I forgot to tell you, my birds liked it and my lave orp that was laying thin shells and at one time no shelled eggs is laying beautifully now.
I finally got ahold of the teacher who hatched out some of my eggs in her classroom. Out of 36 eggs she only got one to hatch !!! A black chick that I think is a pure Ameraucana !!
She said there were about 4 others that pipped but never hatched. She could hear them peeping but knew not to interfere !!! Well, I would say after 24 hours you can step in. Poor chickies !!
I'm bringing her another 3 dozen next week since I still have to hatch out chicks for my farrier.
The little chick got lonely and I guess today jumped out of the tub and out into the hallway. The stairway was right outside of the classroom and another teacher heard the chirping getting louder and louder. She found it 3 steps down !!! Guys the little one knew I was coming for it today !!! It is now safe and sound with my other chicks the same age !!
Ok, gotto go find the black jelly beans I bought before DH eats them all !!!
