Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Ken, you'll like the dark brahma. Here's a pic of my roo. He's trying to sleep standing up while an EE hen snuggles under him. He is probably the most mellow bird I have.

BBP: Absolutely ADORABLE chicks-omg I want babiessssssss :p Find anything out about the ducks having a home already or not?

"Mystery Duck Egg" update: So I just got home and candled the mystery egg and there is/was definately growth. This should be day 5 as long as the mom duck hadn't sat on it. However, I didn't really see any blod lines on the sides? And the dark blob kinda looked like it was floating-is this normal? When I googled pics online-most showed very obvious blood vessel development-others just showed the dark blob? I put it back under the broody but am crossing my fingers its viable. My concern is due to the fact the first broody I put it under switched nestboxes and the egg was cool/cold when I discovered it and moved it to the other hen. Any thoughts or suggestions on telling if it is still viable?

Another update: I was gone visiting my brother in St Cloud for the day (His BDay)-came home to discover my SO started on the broody/grow out section of the coop!!!!! I am sooo excited. He made it about 4 ft L by 4 ft W and 3 ft H and put up two nestboxes in there as well. Tomorrow we need to finish by adding the top!!! YEAH!!! Wire front, wood sides so privacy for the broodys but when I use it for a grow out pen (Chicks arriving in June), they can socialize and see the rest of the flock!!!

The ducks are with me again. They didn't sell today so I took them for the weekend. They're cute little buggers. My son is in love with the chocolate one. If i don't find a home for them by Monday they'll go back to the store. We have more coming on Friday.
Give that duck egg another week and candle it again, then you'll know for sure.
One of my Orpingtons is feathering out with an amazing color. Too bad its looking like a rooster :(

Do you have to have water for ducks? When i was a kid I remember my parents saying the ducks needed to be able to put their heads in the water. as in the creek needed enough water in it for them to swim around and dive for food, etc. yes??? I'm asking because I love ducks but we are on a ridge top with no water anywhere

Carol, My heart's going pitter pat! Cuuuuuute chickies!

Ken, wow! You've got a pretty amazing job. Too bad the young ones in trouble don't appreciate you more.

sigh, I had more responses but I accidentally closed my "reply window". Too tired to go back!

I did my daughter's 2 birthday party cakes all day long today! It's involved. Super fun to get lost in the creativity... and buttercream frosting :) But I will sleep well when I get upstairs right after this!

Terri that is so funny to hear about your chicken who sleeps upside down and when you see her sleeping you think the dummy has expired.

This isn't the same one who has her chicks in the rafters is it? You've got a funny farm section of your homestead there don't you?

Aw, babylady so they sit on them together? That's so sweet! Are they, like, BFFs or something? hee! Take a pic if you can!
So sorry to hear about your budgie, poor thing.

What a lovely pic Amyable! I voted!

Ghost, adorable set-up! Pm me if you'd like me to check on our just installed wheels for the specifics. Too tired to go out in the dark to take pix now! Hubs did a really nice job with it IMHO!

YAY Cindlady for the pips!

Fun to hear about you and Dr HaHa!

BigFam, When you say culling are you meaning separating them? I thought it meant something more permanent. (hard to bring myself to be specific) How are you using the word? Sounds so hard either way.

FT, I'm embarrassed to know this but I remember Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos got married in the Chapel of the Bells. And its still there. They went back last year and renewed their vows and yours truly evidently watched that show.

How amazing that several here got married in Vegas!!!

GN, so fun to hear!!! Man there are enablers coming out of the woodwork here!

Birthday party a la Hello Kitty tomorrow! Waaaaaaay too many people on the guest list...
lol.png
5 year old buddies and their parents and our parents and well, my girlfriends who were sleeping on the floor outside my hospital room when I was giving birth. There is just lots of love so I think the girl's birthday party will just keep growing to epic proportions year by year! Wish me luck!

YAY! I get to sleep now! Nuh Nights!

Happy anniversary, MLH & EL! I'm glad Em is feeling a little better. I hope he continues to improve & doesn't have anything serious or contagious.

Ramses is starting to feel much better. It is starting to get challenging to get him to take his meds.

MLH, I hope DS did good at his 1st soccer game.

I hope your little Brahma is doing better today, Amy. I love your egg pic!

Ghost, love your little coop! If you have such wicked winds giving you grief every year, couldn't you plant a windbreak row of evergreens?

Bl4, congrats to DD. And so sorry to hear about your little budgie.

Cind, congrats on the super chicks! I hope your hen gets better.

FT,

the "flat tire" Ken had was a brand of beer! Congrats on all the eggs! Wow, you're starting to sound like Jim. So you have 6 lav orp eggs that are developing from your pair? That's great. Glad your roo is doing his job. He sure is a good looking boy.

I hope everyone has successful hatches. Bigz, how are yours doing?

Bf4, sorry to hear about your chick.
hit.gif
I hope the rest of them are doing better.

Cute chicks, BBP!

Gnet, congrats on the hatch. That is a great %! And very wise bator advice.

Ang, yeah on the new addition to your coop!

Got through all the posts & now it's time for bed! What's up with that? You people talk too much!

I got the coop cleaned out today. Oh, and Moose & Jack were sparring through the fence. Mostly Jack, the little schmidt. He even got one of his barbs caught in the fence & was half hanging there so DH had to go rescue him (Moose is very tall & Jack is anything but).
roll.png
Moose did get one good one in on Jack's comb so I had to take him in & wash a little blood off. I could barely tell where it was bleeding from, and I was suprised there was pretty much blood for so small a wound. But it stopped really quick so I washed it up & put some neosporin on it. In no time he was back out with his ladies. Chicken drama! Other than that, I've got nothing, so sweet dreams, all!

Just checking in to catch up. We had to go to a wedding reception tonight (actually last night since it's 3:17am). DH's coworker.
So i'm beat !!
CRS right now. Must be the Kahlua & Cream or the Amaretto and sour or diet cokes that I had !!!

Mx, Yep i remember now that Rippa got married in Vegas but couldn't remember where for sure.

CC, yep and I'll have another 5 or 6 LO's to put in tomorrow or Monday. I am the president of LLLOWC so I have to have lavenders.
gig.gif

No hatches yet. Ducks are due today (22nd)
fl.gif

Ok, falling asleep, better take my pills and call it a night. Hope I can sleep. I had coffee and chocolate at the reception too !! Might just have to take something to help me sleep or I'll never fall asleep even if I'm tired !!!

Oh and Bl4 congrats to your daughter and sorry to hear about you losing your budgie. Wait till you see the baby budgies. They are adorable !!

Night all.

I had so much I thought of as I was reading in little bits all day... now it's almost 5am. and its all gone. To tired to go back and look. Got 6 chicks so far! Even some that were too dark to tell if they were OK hatched! Looks like Prettyboy and George got the right stuff after all! Now if they "throw hen" (make girls) They have a life long job!

The chicks I got last week did a very cute thing tonight. A little moth was just outside their pen and they all watched it very intently until it got close enough.... They All went for it! So cute! And they got it too!!!

OK.... must sleep! night.

They do need to be able to dip their faces in water, but that means it just needs to be a few inches deep. I use kiddie pools and those rubber livestock tubs and my ducks are perfectly happy. I have call ducks though so they can dive and swim around pretty good in a large kiddie pool.

Good morning all :)

Cull... Put out of its misery. I broke down and called Dan's uncle. I figured since I had to cull two this week myself, and just wanted someone else to do it. My hubby doesn't want to do it, says its MY hobby. Uncle says to just get the ax. Quick and simple and no screwing up like breaking their neck sometimes. I know I have to toughen up... But it's gonna take time.

And cute coop...the tree or hedge idea is a good one. Even CC has a few sometimes.

My oldest son has a school field trip to the Brewers game today! My hubby is going with him. I think it's Dan's first field trip AND his first Brewers game! Lucky Daddy! Since he's always working, I am SO excited for them to do this together. Dans dad died when he was just 9 yrs old. He doesn't have many memories of him and his Dad. So I get really sentimental about the boys having memories with their Dad. You just never ever know what's going to happen.

We had two soccer games yesterday. There was total morning chaos and dysfunction before the first game. When we got to it and I said " anyone got any Valium they want to share?" And no one stepped up to help a girl out! Stingy b@stards.....

We have another soccer game today. Hopefully there will be less drama before hand. But you try to keep an almost 3 yr old in a stroller the whole time. It's like a time bomb. Tick tick tick... Watch the game... Tick tick tick... He's getting antsy... Tick tick tick... Where the he!! Are those other boys... Tick tick tick... Go team!... Tick tik tick... He's ready to EXPLODE... Tick tick tick... Get him out of there NOW! And then he's off like a shot and I spend the rest of the time literally running after my son. Did I mention he thinks it's super funny to run onto the field while the games on? And he's not happy with it unless he's in the middle of the field. How can someone so small be SO fast...???

Cross your fingers there are no more sick birds for awhile. I have chicks due in 4 days. I would really like to NOT have to bring a sick bird into the house with babies nearby.

Btw... It's the lavender, Isabel, Porcelain Orps and golden laced Orps. My mothers day hatch along will be the Australian spotted ducks and Silkied ameraucaunas. I'm going to have GGOOOOOOOOOODDD chicks for the bash... ;)

Better go look up what to have for breakfast! laters!
