Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

well went to feed everybody this morning and there were two more chicks under Houdini my half Jaerhon hen. One is very much a cockerel, and the other is white/yellow with a tiny bit of color around its beak/eyes.
The white/yellow one and the other newly hatched cockerel were having a little trouble standing. I brought the pullet and the white one home, banded them with white zip ties so I can tell her from the hatchery chicks.
I am less concerned about the two cockerels that are still with her, she has another 4 or so eggs that IF they are going to hatch.. they will.

FT and TO.. the main difference between Rocky Mtn horses and Ky Mtn horses. is that KY mtns usually have one purebred parent and the other is from another breed association. My DH's Ky mtn- her sire is a Mtn Pleasure horse and her dam was a TWH.
Here is what is on the FAQ on the Rocky mtn horse

hey everyone,
Yucky outside this afternoon, cool, windy, and light rain here.............. blahhhhhhhh we need it but I really hate rainy days.
So babies have been out in the baby coop since yesterday, the sweeter heater kept 80 degree's under the heater and the small coop about 75 to 78 or so over night, babies seem fine today ate there breakfast of scrabled eggs with relish, they seem a bit flighty now that they have more room, and I have more exits/doors to peak in......... LOL
I posted some pictures taken today on this thread, would appreciate any guesses on there sex's I think I have 3 girls and 2 boys will see....... so heres the link. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...and-tricks-pictures-included/680#post_8858992

I get $2.50/doz and I sell all I can produce..

I was told you can sell to anybody, anywhere, anytime except to restaurants.. I have had my eggs in the cooler at a restaurant to sell to the general public..

If you don't ask, then you can plead ignorance.. I can plead ignorance on any subject..

farm markets have their own rules..

to the people who say they can get them at a store for cheaper, go get them cheaper.. but after telling me that, do not ever ask me for eggs, at any price.. there are enough people out there who know good eggs from inferior ones..

I finished up my drawers this morning.. I still have a little tweaking to do.. some of the screw heads rub on the rollers.. that should take me just a few minutes to fix.. I did not paint the drawer fronts yet.. a funny thing happened while I was moving things around to install the drawers.. I found over 5 sets of drawer glides on a shelf.. I really didn't have to buy these new ones.. Oh well, they will still be here for the next project..

Hi Folks
First time chicken raiser here or just about to be

, I just finished my coop , well at least I need to just shingle it and finish my permit for the city. I am located in Milwaukee.I decided to try chickens because my wife wanted another cat, and told her I spent all the money on a coop, I am trying to convert her to chickens she had a parakeet this shouldn't be hard. She thinks chickens are dirty lol it really doesn't matter because I cleaned the parakeets cage , along with the litter , the dog poop

. I am sure once they been around a while she will warm up to them, I sure hope the dog does to . I am going to do the deep litter method . I didn't realize the local farm and fleet and tractor upply had a small window for chicken days for small orders .I did some more reading on raising chicks because thats what I like to start with . I found someone in Racine that sells New hamspshire red, productionn reds <---- which I assume means a RED Star breed? He also had Golden Comets, welsummers and assorted Bantams . I wanted to go with the bigger breeds and stay away from bantams for now. I am only allowed 4 chicks in the city which is ok with me , just enough for interest and not enough it becomes a full time job . I attached a picture of my coop, oops our coop

Thanks

Well I decided to cancel my order from My Pet Chicken. I was going to spend a lot of money to have the silkies and filler fowl shipped to me. I've ordered some hatching eggs to cut way down on the cost. We can also get started on the boys silkies sooner than June 18th.

I have 4 new Orpington babies. A Lavender, two gold laced, and a black split.

Going out to Puzza Hut tonight for MIL birthday. Always interesting with my kids in a restaurant. Add to that the fact I'm eating basically no carbs... Sounds fun! :(

Look up heritage breeds. They live longer. Breeds like production reds have a very short life span, like keeling over at the age of 2. Heritage breeds are much hardier and produce longer. Believe me... Any of us can hook you up with heritage birds in chick form! Check out Bigz Chickenstock bash. (athrwad on here) It's coming up in May and we will have all kinds of chicks to swap or sell. Plus you'd get to meet lots of chicken addicts, eat, drink, and be merry! Cute coop btw!

Late Afternoon All... Welcome to the Cheeseheads dynodan...Nice job on your coop. Take your time deciding what breeds you want, and I would pick a breed that does well in our climate here.

Thanks for the good vibes CC...I did manage to save the pipped chick....woulda never made it without suzies help.

Miracles really do happen.....Called Turkeys for my talks alot friend Rick This mornin. He had 2 tags for the third period...well as luck would have it, bigz called 2 adult Toms right to the decoys....they stood together and he was able to harvest them both with one shot....he was happy and we were done before 6:30am.

Doc my roo's are older birds and seemed like they were doing their job. I guess since the hens no longer have bare backs, they are doing more dancing with the hens than they are mating....seems like the favorites are enough for them....stupid me culled the 3 young ones thinking I could hatch a more SOP perfect specimen...one was perfect , except I thought it should be a little larger....stupid is as stupid does...maybe I should change my name to stupid.

Nice pics everyone...I swear I'm gonna learn how soon....good job understanding how to post pics Ken....I'm too stupid to figure it out.

bigz
