Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

well went to feed everybody this morning and there were two more chicks under Houdini my half Jaerhon hen. One is very much a cockerel, and the other is white/yellow with a tiny bit of color around its beak/eyes.
The white/yellow one and the other newly hatched cockerel were having a little trouble standing. I brought the pullet and the white one home, banded them with white zip ties so I can tell her from the hatchery chicks.
I am less concerned about the two cockerels that are still with her, she has another 4 or so eggs that IF they are going to hatch.. they will.

FT and TO.. the main difference between Rocky Mtn horses and Ky Mtn horses. is that KY mtns usually have one purebred parent and the other is from another breed association. My DH's Ky mtn- her sire is a Mtn Pleasure horse and her dam was a TWH.
Here is what is on the FAQ on the Rocky mtn horse

Quote: Is it true that both of these breeds have shorter legs on the left side than on the right side ? so that when they walk along the mountains, their back stays level ?
Well DH says that the Rocky Mtns legs are shorter on the LEFT side... well cuz... And the KY mtns are shorter on the RIGHT side!!! hmmm I never knew! :gig

Ok... Who has Plymouths and Wyandottes for Dan? I know Jim must have some? Bigz? Doc? Terri O? Frenchie? Mazo?
Dyno, I'm a soft spoken gal, and I rarely say what I think, but I hope you don't settle. I know with all the lovely folks on here, someone will have what you're looking for, or know someone who does. I am new as well, and spent lots of time researching breeds. Now I just want a few of everything LOL. So take a deep breath, say a little prayer, and see who pipes up in response!
(sssshhhhhh NO ONE burst the bubble about me....)

No plymouth rocks here, but I could hatch you out some Dominique/black australorp chicks. They have an awesome, friendly temperment.

DynoDan..
LOL who locks her in the coop? hehe Lovely coop BTW..........and Welcome ......... I have several heritage breeds, hatchery stock I don't show, for the most part my chickens are great, 3 are BSL and I love them best so far, nice large dark brown eggs almost everyday, they ,may miss 1 day a week, they are just a year old, have had no trouble with them at all, my BR is a bit lazy 3 to 5 eggs a week, my most prolific birds are actually my SS, and Delawares the SS being the most talkative and friendly, comical birds of my mixed up flock.
Wyandottes are beautiful birds especially the BL, I have a SLW she is also very pretty and a good layer, though small for the breed. her brothers made good chicken dinners though, but hard as He!! to pluck........... argggggg
If ya just want egg layers BSL, or Delawares would be my best pick, SS if you don';t mind a Medium to large egg, Extra large eggs from the others....... my 8 month old Dels lay a very large egg already, and haven't yet went through a molt. No matter what breed you choose someone will say good someone will say bad, pick the ones you like best, and maybe a second choice and see who does best at what you want them for........... most of all have fun and enjoy them. Kim

Thanks every one for the input on the breeds. The breeds will never be for show , I like easy demeanor type of breeds. The 2 breeds I really had my heart set on was the Plymouth rock and the wyandottes. I think these 2 breeds look so beautiful , my god I am gushing over a chicken as a dude, this is not right

I just was so amazed on how fast the fleet farm thing is I assume most are bought for meat chickens and a few for hobby farming. I waited 2 years to do this and spent a year researching so it kind of tears me to take red stars or another breed when my heart goes the other way.Ps My daughter sure gets locked in the coop a lot , but she does have strong lungs for yelling.

Dyno- both of those breeds are very nice!! And your coop is NICE... You could go for two Red Stars as adult or Point of Lay red stars. And then get two younger pullets. Don't get straight run... the last thing you need is a rooster!! LOL I went odd with my birds... I have marans, seramas, norwegian jaerhons, and barnyard mixes.. plus a few extra hens here and there...

No, no, no.....Have you forgotten already???? Bigz is the chicken god, Jim is the chicken knowledge fairy. Remember the visuals of Jim in a tutu with his sandals and black socks?

If you want friendly birds that will "talk" to you, give you lots of large eggs and is very winter hardy.... I vote Australorp
Yes, I would wait and see who here has what you want. Allot of us have some pretty cool BYMs too! The ones I just hatched all have Ameraucana fathers and various mothers. Whey they grow up the hens should lay blue, green or brown eggs.

CU later... I think.

Sh!t...I had a nice loooong post WITH PICS for you all tonight...went to look at the netpic of ajuga reptans and lost it all! too late to redo...maybe tomorrow! Just suffice to say that I now have 29 baby chickens outside...I am not including the ducklings or goslings either!

GOOD NIGHT! Terri O
