Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good morning everyone.

Boy its going to be a warm one today. I've been taking Shifu outside alot everyday to get her use to the flock and them to her. Well when I'm out there everyone gets along but the second I come inside one of DH's production reds attacks. I think its the same one that bites my foot everytime I close the coop at night. Of course the ducks ignore her and her cries for help so I have to run out there and fling DH's rooster away from Shifu. Ugh I was hoping to get her moved to the coop this weekend but since the ducks havent accepted her and she's still getting attacked I guess I'll wait another week or two and just keep taking her outside during the day. She's already almost as big as the mallards but only just started getting her feathers. I dont know how much longer she's going to fit in the brooder. I guess I can make her a duck diaper and leave her out of the brooder. ugh Who knows I guess I need to think about it.

Oh, and the mosquitos are HORRIBLE! What does everyone use to repel them? Last year I tried so many different products and nothing seemed to work longer than an hour tops. Thats if it even worked. Some stuff was didnt even phase the mosqitos. The 3M military cream worked good but costly and I am allergic to deep woods off. Any tips, ideas, anything ??

High wind alert already and storm/tornado watch for later. Of course it would, I just finished putting all my plants in the garden.
If it hails,

Hoping the winds are not crazy for my plants, but we need the rain. Tried to weed yesterday but the ground was so hard I broke a shovel so I gave up. That is what this weekend is for... right?

Going to the Dr today to see if she can tell me why my feet are always so sore... we are going to Disney this summer... I dont need sore feet for all that walking!

Otherwise I am anxiously waiting for a call from Carol if some silkie eggs that are in her incubator are fertilized or not. I see my little rooster doing the 2 minute drill on his favorite white silkie girl, and the black silkie girl and my bantam white frizzle both have little narfs on their back so I think he has visited all three. Need to check if he is shooting blanks or my hopes of someday breeding silkies has potential. we will see. So hopefully Carol will give me a ring this afternoon with the news (HINT, HINT)

Good morning all! Just time for a quick note--I have to cook an extra day this week....making lasagna. I hope the folks like it! Then I need to make the puff pastry for the cream puffs for tomorrow. It has been a long time since I have made them so I had to refresh my brain on the recipe...I will try them with GF flour mix sometime this weekend...lots of cooking going on ALL the kids are home until Monday! I couldnt believe it when my son walked in the door! I guess he figured that he would take a week off since school just ended....he told me he failed his calculus class AGAIN! I think he said he is going to try it in summer...I wonder how many times you have to take it before they pass you just cause they're sick of seeing your sorry *****? He needs if for his degree...

WHat a difference a couple hundred miles makes! It is breezy and sunny here--all blue skies! It can just stay that way too...I have a load of hay in the driveway and no time to unload it!

All is good here too...picked up a few more maters at the Farmers' Market in town yesterday....I will get them in on the weekend I guess.
Well, I'm off! Have a fantastic day everyone! I hope you guys with little plants in the garden dont get any hail! Terri o

For those of you who need rain, I'd be happy to send you some. I can send enough for everyone

The only ones happy around here, right now, are my geese. They are in heaven.

Wow thats crazy. Good luck. Its suppose to be a high of 88 here with all sun. I've been crossing my fingers my plants dont fry lol

Its raining like crazy here. I think I'll put the ducklings in the bath tub for a swim today. I found someone to castrate my bucklings by cutting, not banding. I think I'll wait one more week and then they can have it done. The Vet did my last goat. When I bought these two I loved the brown and white one because of his color. He's really turning out to be annoying. The white one is so sweet. Maybe he has more saanen personality and the brown one more Nubian.

good AM, hot and windy.. not a good combination..

I can see at least 6 guineas peeking at me from the hatcher..

the peacocks/hens seem to have paired up.. I suppose they will be hiding their eggs again..

all chores are done.. have not had a cuppa yet.. will take care of that shortly..

'mornin to all. Rain, Rain, Rain in western Washington - but then I guess no one is surprised. I'm getting weary of it - we had a couple weeks of nice sunny weather and now it's back to rain. During the sunny weather - I was duped!! I got my spring veggie plants - don't even have them in their containers yet and they got frost bite earlier this week. Come on!! This is Memorial Day weekend. How is that right??? The only ones in the coop/run that are happy are the three ducks and they're looking at the chicken girls like "what's your problem - rain is the best." Anyway - I have a Thursday off - a rare occasion - and I'm going to enjoy every minute of it. will try to take some pictures today (between the raindrops) of my wonderful growing flock. They're getting to be such big girls. I have to tell you - when I got my chicks - there was an extra one and of course it turns out to be a brown leghorn roo. This batch of chicks is a month old and this little thing stretched himself up to as tall as he could make himself, fluffed his feathers and proceeded to try to crow. It sounded more like my de-barked beagle - but he made every effort to assert his maleness - what a kick. He tried about 4 times and then gave up - They are all such a joy with their own personalities. Last evening I was in the coop sitting on my 5 gal bucket with my favorite barred rock young male nestled down on my jeans leg and when I looked down there was a line of 4-5 other chicks waiting their turn to be picked up and loved on. It kinda made my day. Everyone have a wonderful day------------------later
