Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

my lil brother stepped on one of the baby calls feet. It wont walk, the middle toe is bent at an awkward angle and the ankle is swollen... Anything we can do or do we have to put it down?

BL4's DD 1&2

See if you girls can cool it down a bit with ice water. THen maybe wrap it up in a bit of vet wrap? Does it seem to be broken? I have had ducks that were fine without feet (frozen off) but they werent babies. Good luck! Terri O

Oh dear! Is your mom at work? I wouldn't put it down. Perhaps you can make a splint out of a pipe cleaner and secure the toes/leg to it with tape for support, until your mom can assess the situation.

This day is NOT starting off well!
barnie.gif
I was going to try to go to bed early.... I have not made it yet!
Shortly after midnight DS#1 (the one with MS) had a "messy" accident and I had to change his sheets. OK, not the first time and I'm sure won't be the last.
idunno.gif

Was getting dishes ready for the dish washer and and put water in the pan young son made the sauce in and spilled it! (I have indoor/outdoor carpeting in the kitchen
roll.png
) Dabbed up what I could.
Loaded the dishwasher and went to wash the sheets... spilled the laundry detergent.

Cleaned that up.
Cat (Natas) threw up one of her "famous" hair balls, a nice slimy 8 incher!
hmm.png

Young son came home with a drunk friend who threw up on the deck... son kinda cleaned that up.
sickbyc.gif

DH had to get up early for work (3:45) so I got the chicken mash done so he could take it out but I would have to stay up to let them out.
th.gif

He took out the mash about 4:30 and 2 of the "pullets" I BOUGHT started crowing!
rant.gif

So, DH comes in, packs up his stuff or work and dumps his liter of soda on the floor!
hit.gif
remember, CARPET! So I dig through DH's pile of clothes and junk on MY SIDE of the closet! To get the carpet cleaner out!
sad.png
Keep in mind I have back issues that make it very painful to vacuum, running the carpet cleaner is HE!!

Went to let the chickens out...it was raining! Nice we got rain... just not right THEN! Mash pans were outside filling with water so I had to move them to the coop.... I'm already in so much pain I have tears in my eyes.

Good morning

yes Vicki great sunny day in the north and a great soapbox speech

need to rest the knees a bit today, planted the last 100 broccoli and cabbage plants last evening and almost couldn't straighten up,,,,lol,,,,remembered to wrap these stems now if the cutworms don't get the others I'll be po'd

need to get the brooder/shack empty and cleaned out,,that means I need to get doors on the bottom of the Jim cage today so the fool's day hatch get moved in there and acquainted, funny watching the 3 groups intermingle and then divide up again,,with Jerry in jail no real battles,,,,,,,,yet

still debating weather to put some of the eggs that are in the bator under one of the broodies,,,the Langshan being huge could cover all of them,,,nahh,,,maybe give her a few though nice to have a good cluck if she does the job

Jim those #'s amaze me

FT when you told the food poisoning story I was thinking, good thing you didn't have both ends working against you,,,,

have a good one folks,,,bbl
What do you wrap them with ? Interesting !!!

No Sh!t !!!

Hey you are the person to ask Unk. I bought Blue Lake 274 bush beans and it says to use an innoculant with them. Do I really need to ? Fleet Farm doesn't carry it. And when I was at Jungs I didn't get any.

Also what do I need to to to my potatoes that I bought to plant. I know I have to cut then with an eye on each but what do I need to put on them ? Captan? or ???
Thanks

T'd off I missed the Swap in Rhinelander. I would have liked to see what kind of maters they all had.

Quote: Oh, now I get it. You are Bl4's DD's posting. I agree with TO. Can you get a bowl of ice water and put the foot in that (not the duckling) and try not to get the duckling chilled. Maybe put a lamp on the duclking to keep it from getting to chilled while you soak the foot and ankle.

And I would hide your little brother when she does get home !!!

You guys sould like you know what your doing.
thumbsup.gif
Your Mom taught you well and the best part is you came on Cheeseheads to ask for help !!!! Good Luck and keep us posted please.

FT, I wrap a 1" strip of newspaper 3-5 wraps around the stem at the base for the cutworms set at ground level

"Hey you are the person to ask Unk. I bought Blue Lake 274 bush beans and it says to use an innoculant with them. Do I really need to ? Fleet Farm doesn't carry it. And when I was at Jungs I didn't get any."

IF you have used the innoculant in that area last year then no, IF you have really good bio-active soil then no,,, but,,,,yes I recommend getting some,,,,does Schafer's sell seed? or anyone else that does in town should have some, wet the seeds add a Tbl sp of the innoculent and shake it up to coat the seeds (I also presoak beans, peas, etc at least a few hrs,,,then innoculate if needed

"Also what do I need to to to my potatoes that I bought to plant. I know I have to cut then with an eye on each but what do I need to put on them ? Captan? or ???"

I try to grow organically here,,,just cut and let scab over for a day or 2 in a sunny/dry spot. I use only certified seed

light rain starting should get a couple hours in the gh,,,,,,,,

This is really funny (this is me, back home from work...), my oldest DD is sitting with our cat Spice AND the duckling on her lap.... the cat is helping keep it warm.

Youngest son better keep himself scarce for a while.... it is not like he is 5 years old; he knows better.

Ok, just reunited baby with mom. They are out there having a huge discussion about it.

Thank you everyone for all your help!

wet hi to you all, I did get a part of the garden tilled and then dug a trench with the tiller and planted 9 tomatoes. I finished up in the rain and got soaked.. I would like to get the peppers and broccoli in yet, if the rain lets up enough.. prolly won't happen before Annie has to leave for work, though..

Marlene called me in a panic.. she has a sign on the hiway for chicks for sale.. she is all sold out already and needs more chicks.. I am taking some to her tomorrow ..
to top it off,, she also has an ad in the shopper that will be coming out on tuesday.. she is getting $3/each.. straight run..

Annie must be frying bacon for her spaghetti and meat balls.. I guess I must be hungry cause I can hardly concentrate from smelling it..

looked up engine rebuild kits for my tractor.. anywhere from $850.oo to $1250.oo.. I still have to check with another place yet..

.........jiminwisc.......
