Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good morning folks

yes Terri,
heirloom tomatoes breed true,,,self pollinating,,,one of the reasons I like them so much,,,find one you like and have luck with and save your seeds. When we all have mature fruit remind me to post about saving tomato seeds,, pretty easy to do

clouds of pine pollen rolling about now as the sun warms things up,,,hopefully one of the "possible" t-storms hits and settles this down,,,breathing issues for me until that happens,,,,,,,

egg laying is up and down here,,,3 hens now broody doesn't help,,,the heat slowed them down then back to 19 for a day,,,yesterday 11,,,need to do a search in the woods, but the broody girls are hanging in the nest boxes. I did move a Langshan into a kennel she seems to stick tight in there,,,,if she stays all day on the golf balls I think I'll set a few of these eggs from the bator under her tonight

bbl been at it since 5 time to eat,,,,,,,,Jim must be changing his sheets

I do so love heirloom plants, especially maters! Had trouble starting them this year too, basement is not proper conditions. Luckily there is a small greenhouse in GB that sells some heirlooms. I've still got quite a few seeds of a bunch of varieties; is custom seed starting in the realm of possibilities?? Would anyone do that? I'd love to supply someone the seeds of choice in exchange for a pick of the plants.

Dan, i just found a 10-blue-egg nest in the tall grass. Snots! I bet they started another nest up already, been low on blue eggs. Got an Orp sitting on 14 eggs, and 3 other broodies with 3 guinea eggs each. Hope that breaks them all up and I get chicks in return.

Nice sunny day out there...don't neglect to vote folks!!

TO; I HATE 'organized' exercise, and running tops my list of activities I detest..... but since I do not live on a farm or ride horses I cannot build the strength I need to compete for this run. I would much rather toss hay bales around to lose weight and get my workout. I like being outside.

I have been taking the dogs with me since I have been walking/running in the early morning. Not quite sure what critters lurk behind the school, on two or four legs! They are pretty funny, all zippy when we start out and dragging their feet when we come home.

Time to make the Carrot Cake for work tomorrow.

I don't have enough hay eating critters to work out anything! lol I WAS going to go on my 8 mile bike ride today BUT I ended up with company for the day cause my MOTHER didn't pay their stupid electric bill

so I'm gunna go later. better not rain! maybe I'll bike to the voting area? I probably should leave now lol
unkadan u made me chuckle about Jim changing the sheets lol likewise Jim you made me chuckle when you first wrote about sleeping like a baby. lol
oh I got something to post from FB lol too funny!

Wondering if anyone attended the Coulee Region Poultry Show in Galesville, WI on June 2?

It appears it will be an annual show on the first Saturday of June. If you would like a catalog for next year's show, please PM your address and I will pass to the show secretary. This year they only printed enough catalogs for prior exhibitors.

Afternoon all!!
I VOTED!!!!!!!!!!

To those of you who might be interested, if all goes according to plan, I should have Heirloom Tomatoes and hence their seeds! I can send seeds to anyone who wants some to try. I will post the varieties that I have. My Mortgage Lifter may or may not lift the motrgage. Zeva Dog ran it over...So we will have to wait to see if it comes back.

FT-I got one of those postcards too!! Really chapped my hide and made me feel very uneasy. I don't know how they can do that. Send out names and addresses on people who voted or not in the past. Kinda walking a real sketchy line IMO.

Ang-Umm..Nutrena Nature Wise is natural-not organic. Cargill/Nutrena does not have a certified organic plant here in the Mid West. Yet. Nature Wise does have those great probiotics though. It also is a closed formula. "If" Sprout is the cousin of Agrimaster, then it is most likely an open formula. Changing to a closed formula alone you should see a better over all hen. I would imagine that you will find that you'll feed less of the Nature Wise simply because the quaility will be better. Add in that with the probiotics, this enhances the bodies ability to retain more nutrition.
I have tried both NW and Agrimaster (the F&F version down south!) and my hens like the NW better. Also in talking to people at chick shows, I have noted that those that feed Agrimaster and then switched to NW, saw an increase in over health and vigor of their birds with more stability in egg production and the quality of the eggs went up.
As far as MPC goes, I have never ordered chicks from them but have heard they are one of the best to deal with and the chicks arrive in tip top shape. When you get them, give them water laced with Vitamins and Electrolyts with a pinch or two of sugar for the first 4 hours or so. Let them fill up on water first before food-this will help prevent or drastically reduce Pasty Butt.. It also helps re-hydrate them from the stress of travel. After the 4 hours or so, give them their chick mash. If you have a chick crumble like NW, grind it up in your blender for the first 4 or days. Mash is easier for the chicks to eat and some crumble grinds are too "course" for baby chicks to eat.
Not sure when your fuzz butts will arrive, since each hatchery ships their own way, but if you have not already, call your local USPS office to let them know the babies are coming and leave your phone number. They should call you when they arrive. My local USPS office gets the chicks in at 5 am and I get a call so I can pick them up.

Ok, on to the real reason I was on here! LOL!! This is for Marg!! hehe...It's been a while since I posted a pic of The Barbarian...so without any more ado...here is BTB...

This is a Baby Barbarian pic:

Here is a Teenager Barbarian pic (as of today!)

Here is an Ichabod aka Ichy pic (as of today!) haging out on the eating station. I have no Baby Ichy pics though...

Ok gotta go!

Hi,

Terri (amberflea) here. Just did my last batch of keets, was disappointed in the outcome. The bator I have doesn't hold temp or humidity well at all, only had 25% hatch rate, and we broke open the rest, and only 3 were unfertilized. If anyone has a decent bator they wanna sell let me know. I think I am junking the one we bought at fleet last year (Brower).

I did some chicken math last week, had one lone chick hatch a few weeks ago under a hen. Went to ourflybabies to get it ONE companion, yup, came home with 2 seremas and one bantam wyndotte. So now it has 3 companions.........

I have been selling the keets that are lucky enough to hatch (except I kept a few white ones) and don't have enough to go around. They are very popular this year, and I think I actually might be coming out even and actually paying for my electricity to run the bator for 30 days.

I have 4 black copper marans, 3 penedesenca's, 3 white keets and a couple mixed from my own flock running around outside today, they stick close to their coop, but it's nice they can poop outside for awhile.

Will be awhile before I can integrate them into the rest of the flock esp seen some of my guineas seem to think the chicken coop is theirs too. They tend to pick on the little ones, unlike the rest of my chickens who seem to just ignore the youngsters.

I took this pix of my youngsters with my phone when I went home for lunch... I see its raining now, hope they had enough sense to go back in the coop.
