Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hey everyone...nice cooler ay today...lots of chickens out and weeding work done!

Notes of a first time baby chick momma when we let the broody raise the babies in the coop...au natural. ( they were raised indoors last time and momma abandonded them young).
Surprised how much everyone leaves them alone. Surprised momma is still all fluffed out. surprised how momma is digging in the dirt and the older one is already jumping in the dirt pile to check for bugs... and surprised how much she digs without looking and kicks them or flings dirt on them... silly ramblings of a gaga me loving my baby chicks!

Apyl,

Just tell her cleaning a house when the kids are little is like brushing your teeth while eating Oreos. SO DANG TRUE. I hate that mentality, that the house should always be super clean and you should kill yourself doing it.

What about being with your kids and making memories?? And who in Hades would be impressed with a pristine, kid-infested house? They would simply hate you for it!

That's too bad. Nothing like getting yelled at by your mother. Pristine my A****. I hate that word when used with you should,,, and house cleaning.... And kids...... You are just fine the way you are.

Apyl-I would be more worried if I went into a kid infested house and found it pristine....Kids=dirt. I hate when Mom's do that... use the "clean card". Next time tell her very sweetly: "Wow! Your so right Mom! Why don't you help out by cleaning the_____ (The item she is freaking out that is so dirty!) and hand her a sponge the walk away. Let her figure it out from there. If you do this every time she takes issue with your general dirt then either she will help out or stop saying it.
Thanks ladies. Well I got the house all done today. It's amazing, if my house was so terribly dirty and such squaller how in the world was I able to scrub it top to bottom in just 2 days, all while my 2 kids plus 4 neighbor kids ran in and out and providing breakfast, lunch, and snakcs, oh and the endless drinks lol It's funny too, when I asked her what was such a mess and what was it she thought I needed to fix she couldnt give me straight answer. She just needs to realize we're a family of 5 in a trailer while she has a family of 4 in a 2 story 350K custom house. ggrrrr Anywho, its done and I made a private photo album for her on FB lol and posted TONS of pics of each room with different angles asking her to point out what was wrong and she actually said I was being immature lol.

Also speaking of cleaning, this is what happens less than 5 minutes after my bathroom floor gets washed. Somebody ( no will admit to it) snuck in the backdoor and used the bathroom with muddy feet.

Good Fish Fry Friday To Everyone... Just a heads up on the water situation at Camp. The 4-H group that is there for the weekend have a new deeper well, pump and good fresh water...

don't know the final details, but this is great news for all that work at Camp.

Simple in the oven fish and shrimp tonight...toss in a baked spud and all is good here.

Nice shower here today. I hope you folks with a extra amount of rain are able to recover quickly. It's not always the case though I know.

Later...bigz

Yes I have calls! 10 babies total! I believe TO and BigFam have dibs on a few, and I am TRYING to get Julie to take one to replace the one that passed away.... after that I should have a few left over. I would suggest building a nice enclosure for them first though. I have mine in something like this:

This pic is from another BYC member. My duck house is half this size since I do not separate them for breeding purposes. I live in town and I have not had any issues with any predators so far. We have sliding bolts to latch the doors and some hinges on the top that opens that could have padlocks put on them, but since the latches fit so tightly on the loops we have never bothered.

LOVING my new car!!!!!!! It is so QUIET compared to the Jeep! And I am LOVING NOT filling up the car all the time!!!!!

BBQ chicken tonight with a rice medley and steamed corn. (Had to throw that in for BigZ).

Better get moving, dinner is just about ready. Later all!

The girls enjoyed the backyard tonight! DH mowed the grass in the side yard where they free range. In attempt to seed the yard, we let the grass go to seed so it was kind of tall compared to normal. The girls wouldn't venture to far into it, but are thrilled that it is short again.

Oldest daughter and I leave for Knoxville next Friday, so I have been busy washing laundry and cleaning house today. She and her all-girls U12 team are headed to Knoxville for AYSO National Soccer Championship games July 1-8. I am looking forward to the experience and watching them play, it should be a blast! I start packing tomorrow and gathering items to pack.

Lots to do and my time will be limited for the next two weeks...I will be pages behind!

I learned an important lesson today: Don't trust anybody.
Want to know how?
My beloved cat ate my australorp and my sizzle!!!

I was gone for 3 days, left my little sister to watch them, and come home with two dead babies! I mean, of course, they are just chickens xD But now I have to explain to a 5 year old that her chicken has died. Silly kitty.

Seriously Twizzle... What bad luck for you! I have lots of birds here, all different ages. I'm sure I could replace those chicks with something. In fact I do have 3 Australorps I got from Terri O. I could give you one. They were a wk old at the bash on May 19th. I also have some silkie chicks, and I could part with one. They are the cutest tiny things!

I really need to get to bed. In non chicken related matters, I am running in a quarter marathon tomorrow. It's in Milwaukee, so I have to leave by 4 am. That means 3:30 alarm with a snooze or two. I am not even close to being prepared for it, but I'm going to run and walk it. I will finish that 6.55 miles, and NOT throw up. ;)

checking in.. the adjuster came today.. nice fella.. going to give some $$ for the tree removal etc.
some thing for the wrecked siding and electrical work..

later on two favorite nephews showed up and in no time had all the brush picked up and all the logs cut into firewood.. all I had to do was drive the tractor and dump load after load of brush onto the burn pile..

I thought that my sister was going to send some of her boys out to help, so I pruned the 3 black walnut trees in the yard.. we didn't get those branches picked up.. I can do it at my leisure, I guess.. DD#1 said she could come out on Sunday and help,, that would be nice..

I took a pan of maple sawdust and did hamburgers on the grill.. that smoke sure adds aroma, if nothing else.. I had hamburgers for lunch and supper..

we had just enough rain to keep it from drying out around here this afternoon..

I have a gosling in the incubator and another one well on it's way out of the egg..

Marlene has 30 guineas to pick up and Dan has about 20..

our chickens are laying up a storm.. 24 eggs today.. we penned one hen up that Annie caught eating an egg.. she has not laid an egg in about a week.. I told Annie that it must be eating the egg as soon as she lays it... truly, I don't think she is laying any eggs.. so much easier to "off" her.

my test bed of carrots, and radishes is doing just great.. the lettuce did not germinate much..
I would like to build about a dozen of those raised beds.. I weeded this one in about 5 minutes today.. actually were not many weeds to start with..

........jiminwisc...........
