Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Don't tell me chickens don't think! And plan! And scheme!

Went out to close up and collect eggs. One of the feed buckets with not much in was dumped over so I went to pick it up and an egg caught my eye under the bench. Then I saw more. OK, they were hiding eggs, not unusual. Got up to get something to put them in and here come Jasmine all he1l bent and gets on the nest! Got her mad little but off and pulled out 22 eggs! That little sh!t made sure she was on the roost for treat time every night then would go on the nest when I was gone! She also apparently would get off the nest when I came into the coop. I was wondering why she was spending so much time in the coop but that area has gravel so I just figured it was cooler there. She had to have planed this!

And yes, that's a little pullet egg in the upper right!

I'm going to try to candle them but I don't really want little ones now. Why can't she go broody when I want her to? She is a really good broody though and a good mom!

Maybe I'll let her have a couple back

Hi All!

kris... Hope you can figure out what's wrong with your hen.... maybe your "sitter" can treat her wile your gone?

Bf4m... i posted on the bash thread!

BBP..... My uncle had one that would do that. a rope from the bridal to the saddle should keep her from putting her head in the right position to kneel. (There's a name for it but I forgot it) You both should get used to the trot gate the more you try it. You'll both learn to adjust.

MLH.... I trotted all over creation when I was a kid. Never took a compass but I knew the landmarks all over the outskirts of town. Figured I could also find either a river, creek, lake, pond or RR track. The thing was we had 2 rivers, about 4 creeks that I know of, 3 lakes and I don't know how many ponds! And at the time there were 6 sets of RR tracks because our town was a switching station! But I figured If I found one of those or a road, I could find my way home, and I always did! My folks would have a heart attack if they knew all the places I went and things I did! But then I'm sure as a parent there are things it's just as well I don't know!!!

CC... MY GODS!!! Is that hen OK? Do you know who laid it? How much did it weigh?

Jim... hope you find a hope for the keets! If you were closer I might take a couple. Congrats on the peachicks! Hope you get that tractor fixed without a hitch!

Yep, near as I can figure miss broody (Jasmine) would set then jump off the nest when I came in and back on when I left! This is only her 4th or 5th broody time....Her last brood was in that 4" space! What's she going to be like when she's older and wiser?

As far as the well/pump goes I talked to DH and I guess that's replacing the shaft pipe and replacing the pump. He priced pumps at Manards and a decent USA made pump is like $500

Oh I knew I forgot to comment on something important: CCs egg

After pushing out 5 kids, I could get that egg out easy peezy. But a chicken?! Give the girl some major treatage for that!

Good Morning All! It won't be for long. Jim at least it's a good time of year to do it and not Feb. Cind that is so funny about Jasmine sneaky lil B. Wow Wee $500 for the pump! Is that the pump in the estimate? Wish I lived closer I'd help ya out! CC WOW! One egg omlet. Amy if Bf4me won't share I've got it and will gladly E it to you. You know how she is. That's all I can remember right now. Not sure yet what I'm going to accomplish today could do onions or start tuckpointing the garage. Or I could sit on my butt and watch a marathon of Warehouse 13 all day. New episode tonight.

Amy... I put the cukes in the sink with ice, and more ice, and more ice. I usually ice them for a couple hrs immediately before pickling. They even stay crisp with the hot water bath. I was pretty happy last year.

But I DID want to hear what Doc does as well. So PLEASE SHARE with Amy and I (screw the rest of 'em)

Bf4me just got done typing it out for Amy she's probably more puter savy than I [everyone is] maybe she can forward it to you. I'll give it shot but don't count on it.

Morning!

Going to try and get some grocery shopping in before it gets obscenely hot out there. I am going to the beach no matter what today!!!! I need some R&R before I speak before the City tonight.

So one point that was brought up by my opposition is that there are people with neighbors who do not pick up after their dogs messes, so what happens when they get chickens and they do not clean up after them? Anyone have a good argument for that? All I can think of is that's a lot of what ifs and you cannot predict the future; not a good enough response in my book.

Anyway, good luck out there today. Everyone stay hydrated!
