Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Elaine, that is total BS! You need plenty of those farm signs planted all over! They let you have chickens in Chicago and New York for pete's sake, AND you can have roo's and butcher them...... these stupid yuppies should move back to their little gated communities and stay there......

And for all of you keep on putting out poisons; better watch your step and hope the lovely DNR and the Feds do not show up at your house.

Property owners need to follow appropriate ways to resolve problems with raccoons

MADISON – Reports from property owners in many corners of Wisconsin suggest raccoon populations are large enough to cause nuisance problems in some areas. While there are methods for dealing with “critters,” property owners are reminded that there are no poisons approved for use on raccoons.
“If you have a problem raccoon family in your attic, walls, shed or barn, I know how frustrating it can be. Cute, maybe, but destructive, for sure. Most people are looking for humane ways to deal with them,” said Brad Koele, wildlife damage specialist for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
Depending on the situation there are a number of alternatives property owners can choose from when dealing with raccoons. Removing food sources, harassment, exclusion, and live trapping and relocation are all non-lethal options to consider.
“There are no legal toxicants or poisons approved for use on raccoons and it’s against both state and federal law to use pesticides such as fly bait and rat poison in a manner inconsistent with package labeling,” Koele said. “Non-target animals like the family pet dog or cat, or other wildlife may ingest the poison.”
Anyone relocating animals must have the landowner’s permission when releasing the animal on private property. Live trapped animals cannot be released on DNR owned or managed properties. In areas where the discharge of a firearm is not legal, live trapping is the legal alternative.
“If you are experiencing problems with raccoons and need assistance removing the animal, contact a local wildlife control operator. DNR does not remove raccoons for landowners,” Koele said.
If lethal control is needed, trapping and shooting are options. State law allows landowners or occupants of land of legal age to trap or shoot raccoons year-round and without a hunting or trapping license with the exception of the 24-hour period preceding the gun deer season.
Anyone conducting removal efforts on behalf of the landowner must possess a valid trapping license if they are trapping the raccoons or a valid small game license if they are removing raccoons by shooting and in both cases must have written permission from the landowner. Individuals must also follow all other trapping and hunting regulations.
For assistance on how to deal with nuisance wildlife go to dnr.wi.gov and search “nuisance wildlife.” This webpage also has a link to the Wisconsin Trappers Association’s Nuisance Wild Animal Removal Handbook which includes a list of trappers around the state who can help with animal removal.
For more information on dealing with raccoons and other wildlife causing problems search for "nuisance wildlife," on the DNR website.

I wish I could find the info on the fines.

Tonight was a lot of fun, the first bowling game I managed to kick everyone's butt, and my BIL and SIL both bowl on leagues! I did not do as well the second game, but I am happy that I broke 100 both games. The kids had a blast playing pool, fooseball, pinball and videogames. My BIL suggested I take a pic and send it to my DH's brother so he could know we were all hanging out without him.....

Between the weird spring, broken tiller and drought, I got no garden in, The fruit trees didn't produce, the berries dried up and my daughter's garden made barely enough for them! It was a very frustrating season here! Enjoy your harvest.... love you anyway!

Bf4m....sorry (for your son) about that chick, hope he finds a new spacial one!

Sure was allot of drama in the coop with cutting out that other room for them.... about a dozen of them had to find a new spot to roost.... no one was happy. Jeez! I got 48 ft. of roost bars in the main coop plus 12 to 15 ft. of rafter space in there. And a bunch of places to go in another room! Yet... No One was happy!

. My broody butt is showing signs of beginning to break her brood. If I put fertile eggs under her now, will she sit them?

thank you in advance for your input,

Vicki

Good cool Morning All! Vic I wouldn't but I don't know nutin. Funny about the duck! Have agree Jim those pups will be better of not living there. Hope you get your tractor mechanic issues resolved! Cind we use dryer sheets in the campers and have never had a mouse but don't know if you would want to use them around dishes? Donny wants me to help thin out his flock. Too many chickens for his coop size. Might to go down and pick out a couple of cool lookin hens. My other idiot neighbor [not Donny] decided he was going to burn brush piles yesterday. DNR with 2 dozers, 2 fire depts, and a spotter plane. That boy ain't all there. Hope he gets a bill for the whole thing. They'll be selling his place on the court house steps. It was the fire on the news 173 and GG. The DNR just went by and a Sheriffs car. He won't give them his name or tell them how the fire started. He's the one that the Humane Society took his horses a couple of years ago because he was starving them. Oh so many stories I could tell about him. Better go let the kids out I'm late and their po'd.

I doubt she will set on any eggs now if she is breaking her brood... I have some bantams and silkies I can't unbrood! They'd set for 3 months if I let them...

Yes harder to break a brood than to incourage them to set.
So I was not smart and only stuck one egg under my broody before I went on vacation. Then I hit a panick attack that this was a dud because broody momma is starting to not look good after 3 weeks. Egg shoudl be due this Friday. I tried candling late last night and it looks like it cold be viable. I saw veins and 3/4 of the egg was dark. THought I saw movement but might just be me hoping I did. Hoping it hatches soon so momma can get up and moving again. Plus I have a friend who is doing this 30 day raw diet cleanse that is out there and told me she wants an extra dozen eggs every week on top of the 18 eggs she is currently getting . Yikes. Lets hope my POL pullets start laying soon. I have 2 that look close.

Hope everyone has a good day. Looks like the last hot one for a while

So yesterday my 3 broody hens hatched 14 guinea eggs, (one egg didn't hatch yet, think its a dud)... but pretty good hatch rate, esp compared to the bators... I put them all in a separate pen and am going to let them do the work this time... no heat lamps with the weather the ways it's been! So hoping this works out, so far so good, although I had to slip a piece of cardboard in there as the chicks all came out and were pecking at the shavings... hoping they learn what the food is today... they are all good chickens and don't hardly even peck when I reach in to take out eggs shells or chicks...

Morning all!!
Well, I want a "do over card" for yesterday. Specifically last night. Yesterday it's self was not to bad. Then night happened! LOL! It all started with Fred. I let the dogs out and when they came in they wanted their night-night treat. So, being the picky snots that they are, they decided that they did not like the current treats that they had. So I opened another bag of treats that were a huge hit! But when I was passing them out, Fred made a grab for his (he KNOWS better btw) and got my finger with his fang. Dang it hurt and it was a bleeder. So got the slice all taken care of and bandaged and went back to watching tv. Then one of the cats knocked something off a shelf in another room, so I jumped up to go see the damage. Not paying attention I subbed my toes in the foot of a chair---broke a toe. Maybe a sprain but it's doesn't want to bend much, It hurts like the Hoolies. After the toe incident I went to bed. This morning I took a look at the offending digit and found a cut (that explains the blood on my sock) and it's bruised just a little. So maybe a sprain after all. Either way it hurts just to look at it! I can't fit my foot in my boot so now I'm in flip flops. I don't like flip flops. *sigh*

Other then that, the Chicker Doodles are good. So is Ben. He is in loooooove! With the rabbits! He hangs by the does and makes googlie eyes at them. They find him entertaining. He tried to feed them. At least they don't kick his butt like the Girls do!

Well, I have to go to the market. Don't really want to go. The thought of being on my foot and pushing a cart around Woodman's is daunting. My toes just hurt thinking about it...oh wait..they hurt anyway....

Geez! Sorry to be all whine-ie today....

how is it we wind up with the same crazy bum neighbor??? We were in drought up here in 07. Went to town. could see smoke from miles away. Idiot neighbor had a huge bonfire the night before, he left, girlfriend passed out on bed instead of checking to make sure it was out, (of course it's sunday) wind picked up, 300 of our beautiful 15 ft+ red pines we had hand planted along our property line later the dnr, forestry and 3 different fire departments with pumpers stop it right as it starts to burn the woods that borders 1000's of acres of state land. wind was in our favor our house would have been gone too! Wind shifted later but they caught it in plenty of time. Other neighbor lost the old growth pines right next to his driveway and the fire scorched right up to his back door. This idiot got off cheap because he had good insurance but they had to pay for all the fire equipment, dnr, burning fines and a good chunk of change to us for cleanup and replacement because we had no problem proving those were NOT crop trees. He was also listed to be sold on the courthouse steps but at the last minute made some kind of a deal.
As for broody butt, she is right back to being glued to the nest this morning so I just may give it a shot since my neighbor doesn't care if these hatch or not.
