Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Morning all!
I've been busy the last 2 days and by the time I can sit down, I've been to tires and uninterested to crack open the lap top!
Lets see, Saturday went to the dump and then ran some errands. DH went down to the Chicago area to visit his buddy. Cleaned the rabbit cages and weeded the garden a little. Sunday I cleaned the garage and tossed out so much trash I could not believe it. You know the type of trash the really at one point was not trash until 3 years later it is. I was able to organized and rearrange some things so the garage looks much nicer! That took all day! DH came home in the middle of it all and I put him to work. After he took a nap thought!

So today is clean the house day. Or at least start and the house cleaning.

Other then that the critters are all good. Ben is going to a new home on Friday.

He is just to loud and it's risky for me to keep him. The good news is that he is going to a terrific home where his new owner knows and shows his Game Fowl. So I might see Ben at shows!
In other related chicken news, I think one of the SLW's is a rooster. I also think one of my BR's is a rooster. I told DH this already and I told him we will just process them. I'll give them another month or so and see how things shake out.

Well, that is about it for my news. I have to weed the garden some more. The tomatillos are looking good. This is the first year I've grown them. I think I'll use them for salsa making. If I manage to get enough tomatoes.

Well, best get going. Need to finish off the coffee and get cracking. The rabbits downstairs need to be fed and watered and the litter boxes need to be cleaned....*sigh* I probably should start cleaning out the storage area upstairs too.

Later Gators!!

Hi All!
Taking a break from cleaning the mouse cr@p out of my cupboards!
barnie.gif
Going to try the dryer sheets this time, heard they should keep them out. Cornstarch tracks all over my spices!
somad.gif
The cats try, but in the cabinets they just can't get 'em.

vicki... hope you can get those combs cleared up!

Jim... Hope your mom was a bit better today. Try to keep some money in your pocket after poker... you have LOTS of mouths to feed!

tiki.... neat about your X prize roo!

Gaelio....I have a cross beak roo that looks worse than that. I just trim him once a month or so, he's over a year old now. I won't breed him, but he dose watch after a few of the "lower order" girls which is nice. Lately he's taken to fallowing me around the coop. So I guess it depends on how bad you want him.

BigZ... Old Fashions used to be my drink of choice... as long as they aren't too sweet.

Bl4.... That looks awesome! wish I could have come! How much did they charge?

I'm working on converting part of the feed storage area of the coop to a small mini coop. I'll put the 4 roos I'm going to keep there. Then I'll have the small coop area open for anything else I need... maybe. That's the plan for now anyway.

Water heater went out out again... maybe the thermocouple?

Well, back to the mouse cr@p

.... night all!

I use cotton balls with peppermint oil on them to keep mice out of the cupboards up north at our cabin... nothing's foolproof with those buggers, but I only had one cupboard with mice in this spring... so am going to try that trick again this winter... if nothing else it makes the place smell good

Annie just got a call from the lady who took the two puppies. she is bringing them back .. seems they killed one of her chickens.. they never did anything like that here.. I have mixed emotions about it.. it is not my problem, .....however I can sell the dogs.. but now I have to train them to not catch and kill chickens.. we already have a buyer for one of the pups, but he wants one that doesn't kill chickens.. come on people !!!!!! they are PUPPIES ,,.. you have to train them !!!!

I am a bit upset,, can you tell ?? she should have kept an eye on them.. I'll bet she kept them away from the chickens instead of having supervised time with them.. In the words of the great philosopher , BF4me SH!T !!!!!!!!!!!!!

bbl.......jiminaquandary...........

So sorry Jim!

What part of "dogs are DOGS" and a puppy needs to be taught what is expected and accepted behavior that some people don't understand????

Even small children have to be taught that chickens are living things that belong to the family so you do not sit on, chew on, chase or drag them around!

Sounds like a blessing in disguise for your pups that they did not stay with them. So sorry you now have the tough task of undoing THEIR damage so the pups don't suffer for it.

cotton balls and peppermint sounds wonderful...

I once spread peppermint oil in the coop and it smelled good for a while. Keeps the creepy crawlies away too. I cleaned and washed the coop on Friday and then again yesterday and put 2 bags of shavings and a third of a bag of cedar chips in there. It smells real good now. Supposed to be a natural way to keep creepy crawlies out of the coop too. Then I sprinkled poultry powder in there also. Now if I can find where their little mine holes are I will sprinkle some in there too.

I had a silkie with a bad cross beak like that and she died of starvation. Also had about 5 that I bought and they developed cross beaks but not as seriously. I ended up culling them at about 6 months. When it starts growing that way there is really nothing you can do abouit it. I agree it is much easier to kill the chick the smaller and younger it is.

I suppose with the two dogs they get into a lot more trouble. Mine used to. It is pretty easy to train them so it is probably a good thing they are coming back. Sounds like these people dont have a clue.

One of my roosters comb was partially blue this weekend but I found out what caused it. There was another rooster biting it I noticed these little guys grab and when they get a mouth full they twist their head. Youch! The aggressive one is now out.

Cind, this was an invite only fundraiser at $75 a head. They served over 100 lobsters, so not too shabby! They are going to start up an Orchestra too ( I'm so excited, I might be able to play my t-bone again!).

Neighbor across the street is getting rid of her front flower beds and offered the cement scalloped edging to me, so I took the kids over there this morning and dug all of it up.

big win for me! I will use it in the backyard to edge the garden where my pond is. Make it easier on the DH when he is mowing the yard!

Off to take the oldest DD to the dentist for drilling bout #3, and to get the youngest two their savings accounts set up. Then meeting up with the in-laws and my SIL and her DH to go out for pizza and bowling.

Later!

Seems like Jim went along way to be in a quandary ;)

I had to put the silkie with wry neck down. I felt so bad. The son whose chick it was doesn't know yet. :(

Pulled my first tomato from the garden this morning. I have to I make a tomato sandwich now. :D

And Sh!t covers a multitude of situations... Very important word and sentiment!:p

If my Broody Butt is about to give up on her brood and I decide to stick some eggs under her now, will she continue to sit til they hatch?

well we are starting to get back in the swing of things. Weeds grew with that little rain we had so have been doing a little weeding here and there. DS just helped me with pulling the small onions and carrots from the raised garden bed. Trying to get the weeds out that grew with them. found a dead momma oppsum with little babies. Dont know if she got into the hidden poision we had out for the coons or something got her. Thinking she might have met a dog or coyote or something because there was a large dog sized poop near her and no one has dogs that come in our yard. She had four little hairless babies so they had to be young. but wondering if that is what has been bugging the coop. We saw the coons before but noticed something was climbing the door of the coop while we were gone.. .thank goodness DH built it like fort knox after the last attack.

anyway... anyone know anything about opposums around here? wiki said they eat any birds dead or alive and bugs and fruit. Plenty of all of those... would they go after chickens?
