Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Morning! What a broody hen must be thinking!! ha ha..

CC - oh yes, lots of pics! Love how nice and clean it all is right now but know it won't stay that way for long. I was looking through pictures of our first coop when it was new and couldn't believe how nice and clean it was! LOL Shipping for my waterer was under $9 so I didn't think it was too bad, sent it through Spee-dee Delivery. Your days sounds like one of those "If you give a mouse a cookie" books... busy, busy!

Welcome - Bear Chase Ranch (Pat) Wondering where you got your Swedish from? I have 6 4 week olds from hatching eggs I got on ebay. Did you find some locally?

Good Morning from Bear Chase Ranch in the Northwoods of Wisconsin.

I just joined and am new to chickens. Have 2 Barred Rocks (rooster and hen) and 2 Black Australorps. Just purchased two Citron Spangled Hamburgs and three Swedish Flower Hens. Both new groups have a rooster. Looking forward to some great eggs and new chicks.

WELCOME!

! Pull up a perch and roost a while! You will find some here with their chickie feeders not quite full to the top (

) but most of US are just normal "chickie nuts"

You will also find that many of us on here are from the northwoods, sorta northwoods and
REALLY UPNORT woods!

Post a pick of your chickie digs please! I would love to see how you manage so many "mini" flocks.

Good morning to all! ('specially the newcomers!) You all have been SOOO busy! Nice to be reading your long posts again Frenchie. Your comment about walking in circles had me chuckling thinking about it!
CIND! I thought you had that little cat in already? I guess you know what you are expecting in a few months....

Good luck!
I think they call those waterers "easy clean" because they are just like a bucket and dont have grooves and stuff for the slime to hide in. My brush can get all the dirt in a few quick swipes. Cind I dont have probs with the blue cap...but I do with the blue triangle! I have reordered and replaced and they always seem to pop out and get lost! On that blue cap make sure you are pushing it in until it pops or clicks. Then is shouldnt float on ya! I dont know why mine got so loose between the base and the bucket so the triangle comes out...I really do love the waterers though. Bigz--you only have two buildings...what in the world are you watering with FIVE of them??? Are you holdin' out on us? Do you have more birds than you're letting on? LOL!

SO today I have to go and clean a lake house for a new tenant for the winter. I have done it twice before...big job, but I really love the house! I have to remember to bring a radio though...guess I better get my behind out and feed the birdies so I can get moving on that house...SHOOT--the temp for tomorrow is supposed to be 97!!! Cripes, I will NEVER get my tomatoes canned at this rate!

Oh yeah, I have hatching going on in my barn coop again! I had two hens "sharing" the kennel and when the eggs started hatching one of the hens was pecking the chicks and skinning them bloody so out she went! The remaining hen is hatching the babies like crazy...she might have over 20 by the time they are done! (just what I need hey?)

OK--finally starting the day...have a good one! TerriOwonderingwhathappededtomymorningpersonthing

Good Morning all !!

TO I thought if anyone had a apple pie recipe for canning it would be you !!!!!! So where is it ??? LOL

HaHa--I do have one...but I am not sure where it is...actually I dont like the one I have made in the past. Too sweet. I vastly prefer to make it all fresh even in the winter with store apples...seems to taste better. I have about 5 jars left in the larder of the stuff...I swear it is 10 years old! Can you tell that apples are not one of my faves? I think I will pour it out for the chickies this morning!

Morning all, Well finally got ahold of the vet, they are letting Bugsy come home today, he still is not eating, they have been force feeding with a syringe, they think now he has some kind of intestinal tumor, and his prognosis is not good.......... OH really what I have been saying all along, no never listen to the owner! ya she has only had this dog ten years, and knows absolutely nothing about him and how he is normally........ ARGGHHHHHH I think seriously they just try to drain you dry before the dog is off there list of clients...........due to his death....... gotta get every last cent they can ya know., like the ultra sound they suggested, only 600 bucks for that, and I'd have to run him down to the big clinic in Madison for that. Ya that's really likely with a broken down car and no money. and no guarantee's that will tell them anything anyway.
So I will be going to get him in a bit, at least he will be home where he will get undivided attention and his nice soft cozy bed........... Poor ole boy probably thinks I abandoned him after leaving him there 2 days. Chickies are all good Tiggy is the same.... old, tired, lumpy, and wobbly. Leo misses Bugsy he hasn't eaten much the last 2 days, Tiggy could care less, she will always eat, unless I'm not here.
So just thought I would post another update............Later all enjoy your beautiful day b4 it gets too hot..............Kim

So is a broody that tends to enjoy being broody going to continue in that way? Everyone told me it would be the silkies, but they (who lay 2 eggs a week) just dont care, whereas my BO ( that lays 6 days a week) keeps going broody over and over. sigh... well she has 6 eggs under her. 4d'uccle from my wonderful neighbor, 1 silkie egg and one large mystery egg. We will see what hatches.

Is anyone here familiar with d'uccle as a breed? In general how loud are the roosters? They all seemed so quiet when I was walking through the guys barns. Wondering if it would be a better choice for a rooster ( and future breeding project for daughter for 4h). My silkie is good to the girls but not always to my kids. the d'uccle are so gentle and this guys has some beautiful birds. I am absolutely smitten.

working hard to get my barn quilts done for the coop before the big birthday party this weekend. Besides the house and yard work adn food for party. Yikes.. alot on my plate. I am not an art person so those of you that are- major kudos. This looks simple but really tough work. I will post some pics when done.

I don't know yet. The Hamburgs are only 8 weeks old and haven't arrived yet and the Swedish Flowers Hens are just shipping out today. Will let you know how it goes. The Swedish Flower Hen roosters tend to STRUT more than fight, so I hope they each have their girls and are happy.

Will keep you posted.

Pat

My Swedish Flower Hens are coming from out East. Don't know anyone locally who has them. They are rare in numbers, so maybe people will get their numbers up if they are more well known. They are hardy for Wisconsin Winters, lay a lite brown egg, and tend to be mild in temperament. I will let you know as I experience them.

Well all we are home, I have never seen my dog so down as when they opened the kennel room door... there he laid ears sagging looking so very dejected and lost, he perked right up when he seen me and started doing his slinky happy your here dance wagging that tiny tail at me. He even ate an entire Tuna on toast sandwich for me when we got home........... my lunch hehehehe, Dr said he thinks he has some kinda lymphoma, that is causing his intestinal walls to harden and not absorb his food. They did give him a steroid shot this morning, so hope that is what is making him feel better and he continues to eat. They charged me another 169.00 dollars for the last 2 days, which is actually less than I thought it would be,, so that is at least some relief on my check book. They sent along 3 cans of SD canine hospital food, will try that at around 3 and see if he eats it. He has always been a fussy eater, and prefers people food over dog food, so will do what I can to get him eating anything. Burger, Chicken Tuna, Salmon, are some of his favorites, toast and eggs as well as cheese. Think I will buy him some cottage cheese and some yogurt. or probio to get his system flora BACK IF HE KEEPS EATING. so anyway will keep ya all posted. Kim
