Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good morning,
Dave, wasn't the reason you were getting rid of the chickens so that you didn't have to take care of them during this winter ? If you decide to get those Japanese pullets, I would suggest to you that they don't be crossed with something else .. It might not make much difference to you right now, but in the future for some reason, you will kick yourself..

You guys be careful with that one handed trimming.. It nullifies the kickback safety bar,, just saying...

Vickie, don't think you will need heat until Jan/Feb..

Yes, Annie dug 20 gallons of potatoes and there is a lot more row to go.. She is in better shape than I am.. My back goes out just thinking of digging... HeII, my back stays out..

Good sunny morning! Not a cloud here but it is so very damp and muddy from the 24 hours of rain...I am glad I got my bulbs in before it started but still have to find a spot for those Irises and the garlic (if I ever find it!) I was so surprised on my way beck from town yesterday how green the grass was turning. It is probably thinking that spring is here! (wouldnt that be NICE?) Then you wouldnt have to figure out your chicken situation David! I do agree with Jim...I had a few bantams that crossed with my large fowl and I got 3/4 size chickens! Took me a really long time to get rid of those...I think I only have a couple left...they do make great broodies but....

THose kitties are too cute! I showed DD26 and she said she wanted them all! We dont foster pregnant cats any more because we always had to keep at least ONE from the litter...we were the shelter's best customer for sure!

Too bad you have a road trip Vicki--looks to be a good day to finish stuff up outside. I took a look at the garden and we finally have had a good frost down in the garden. For some reason I still have some basil alive

but I think it must have been sheltered under the brussels sprouts. The tomatoe vines have given up. I grabbed the last of the heirlooms on the plants to save seed. I am going to try and grow my own plants this year...I dont ever have too much luck to please keep your fingers crossed for me! AND if anyone has any advice, please pass it along too.

It feels weird to have Monday morning off...my client had an appt in MN at Mayo Clinic so I didnt have to go there today. I have another guy at 12:30 and am meeting a new lady at 3. An interesting day for sure.
My cold seems to be breaking up...thank God! I hate being sick! Hopefully I didnt pass any of these germs to my old people--they have a hard enough time as it is.

I guess I should get some breakfast...I dont usually have any but it seems as though when we have a big dinner I am hungrier the next morning...weird.
Have a fantastic day! TerriOthinkingwhattomake

Deli... I have eggs in the Bator now too. I think my hubby knows, but he isn't mentioning it. He keeps looking at what we have already and says "what do they do in the winter? They aren't going to want to come out!" Whatever. I'll feed them, gather their eggs, and throw them their treats in the coop I guess. What kind of birds are you hoping to hatch out?

I might have mentioned that Della hasn't been coming out of the coop much. Little strange because he's the first to be begging for treats. I grabbed her this morning and Holy Sh!t some Roo did a number on her! She has a healing wound on her side, but her feathers covered it up so I never saw it. But the black crusted area is pretty big. She's getting a saddle ASAP! Poor girl! I walked her into the backyard yard and closed the gate. The big Roos are too big to get in there, so she should be safe, and still get to range around like she loves. The little icie Roos can fit in, but don't seem very interested in her.

Does anyone on here have Frenchie's number? I know she called me once, and I thought I had her number, but can't find it. She really needs checking up on!:(

good morning folks

no sun here but there is hope it will show up,,, at least the Pack finally did!

terri,,,cute video

also here's a link to the "BYC" of tomato growing (all around good gardening info)

I have saved tomato seed for years on a few heirloom varieties,,,,it takes a bit of messing around to get them cleaned and dried but worth the effort if you have a favorite and with seed prices on the rise

THanks Dan--I'll check that out. I agree with you BigFam...I thought I had Frenchie's number too but I dont seem to have it any more...
I wouldnt worry about your hen too much. I had one that I could literally see INSIDE of! Her wound was on her back between her wings but a bit closer to her tail. It got a huge round, black scab on it and the skin slowly granulated together and you cant even tell she was injured now! I am continually amazed at a chickens' ability to heal! I did put some triple antibiotic on it when I thought about it but not every day. A saddle is a good idea though.

Guess I better head out to hang some laundry...trying to get all the blankets and curtains washed and dried before i cant hang them out any more...too much work...later all! TerriOwasherwoman

HOORAY!!! I just talked to FRENCHIE!!!

My day was spent searching online for her home number and mobile. I found the home one, called it, said it was disconnected. Crap! So I looked up people who are related to her supposedly. I called one person who said wrong number. I started typing her a pm on here telling her she NEEDS to check in because we're worried. Then I remembered way back in May, shortly before the Bash, she was talking about silkies needing homes and she posted her number. YES! So after pouring over pages and pages, I found her cell!

She said Auntie is in hospice now. It's only a matter of time. She said Chuck is doing good. Has a check up coming soon, and might get his prednisone reduced. She also said she was trying to catch up on here. But she just can't because of traveling to Racine so much and spotty Internet. She said she didn't want to just jump in. I told her JUMP IN for Pete sakes!

I will not say anything specific.... But she got a couple new animals. They're not small either. I know, you're all shocked that Frenchie would get more animals...

She's doing we'll herself. She's going to try to pop in soon and say Hi

JIM... Frenchie said Wave is trying to get ahold of you? Asked me what your chicken webpage is? I have no idea what she's talking about, just relaying the message. ;)

hi folks,

got the compost spread, about 15 cu yds covers about 2" except the 2 areas I hit double really worked well, gotta admit I was pleasantly surprised

glad the Frenchie connection was made

of course Jim has a webpage, that's where his recipe for turning roosters into cornish hens is posted,,,,,

Jim and Terri O

thanks for the advice. I will make sure they are purebreed if I decide to get some yet this fall. Do these look like purebreeds. I would love to buy the rooster but I think I would get caught

Jim you are partially right, I planned to rehome them this spring but then decided that perhaps it would be better for them while they are younger to get good homes, plus I didn't think I wanted to have chickens for another winter. Then it hit me, I miss having chickens. I didn't think I would would miss them as much as I do. My sons said "duh dad you are out there with them every evening for at least an hour everyday plus in the morning and more on the weekend". I never realized I spent that much time with them
