Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

HOw many eggs did you set?

If my name was jiminwisc, it'd be like 6 dz. :D

I'm not good with numbers, or memory of numbers...

Originally I put in 8 orps, 6 cream legbars, 14 ameracaunas, and 2 Stellas. I tossed out 7 orps, 4 legbars and 3 ameracaunas. I have 3 eggs left in the bator. I also had to "take care" of 1 chick with hanging intestines. How many chicks does that give me so far?

This was your math lesson for today...

12 hatched, 3 to go

and I will have you know, THAT was before I finished my cuppa!!!!!

NEVER trust the weather man!!!!

We were supposed to get down to the high teens last night and I figured the girls have not had the chance to adjust to THAT temp yet so I put the heater in the coop and kept checking and adjusting til I went to bed. Even got up to stare at my remote to make sure the heater was working. Soooo, we never lost our cloud cover and got just barely below freezing!!!!

Oh well, the girls had a very toasty 50o snooze on the roost. Hope you enjoyed it girls. Today is round 2 (aka Valbazen ). The girls are slowing down with the laying so my guess about the time they cycle thru the wormer (and I quit throwing out eggs) they will quit laying, of course. I do have a timed light in the coop but it is only on a 13 hr daylight time and I may back that off. Thinking the break might do my "old ladies" some good. They are almost completely recovered. Despite the molt, 2 of the ladies are looking really good. Poor Crockpot still has to get her fluffy butt back but she is definitely on her way. Now if she would just shed those horrible looking feathers on one wing from what appears to be from a very botched cropping job. The feathers she does have now show a nice healthy shine (as do all but Soup who is still molting).

Ok, the girls are out, I'm on my 2nd cuppa so it's time to get busy. Have a great weekend all!

Good Frosty Morning All! Cind kitten hide and seek? Think the weather people could take a week off. That has to be boring! I'm thinkin Dora is gonna have a "play date". Glad everyone survived the storms didn't get to see the news for a couple of days so didn't realize it was that bad. So many of you are true addicts with hatching this time of year. Didn't get my running BS done till 11 yesterday so I found other things to do to fill in the day. So today is do chores and cut wood. I get to play with both tractors, I get to play with both tractors!

LMFAO , We all love Jim.

well did my chicken chores and it was 32 degrees in the coop. I have to rethink my idea of not heating. The girls were all huddled together It was 28 degrees when I checked outside so they are only managing to keep the temp up 4 degrees, when it gets much colder it will be worse. Since they are young banties and only 5 I may heat the coop this winter. I don't think there are enough of them to keep them warm. Sure they will survive but I am sure if they spend all their energy just trying to keep warm, it can't be good for them. My coop is about 8' x 5'

cleaning the poo boxes was a breeze, banty poo is so small and smells so much better. I am noticing they eat in a week what the ladies ate in a day. I talked to them this morning when I was cleaning the coop, they didn't approach me and went to the opposite end but at least they didn't fly about. Making some progress

any thoughts.

Have a good day

gotta put on the metal roof today and hopefully enclose the covered run in plastic so when the snow comes it will still be open

Morning all! Got my new gate for the back room yesterday and DH just told me that one of our dogs can jump it....*sigh* I bought the x-high one @ 42" (I think) and it is 2" up off the floor! SHe must be part kangaroo! I guess he must be cold...he just turned the furnace on...I can see $$$ flying out all the drafts in this old house! I'm pretty comfy but I have the puter, a dog and a down throw on me! LOL! All I need is Tommy on my shoulder and I would be sweating!

Man I always hated those kind of math problems JJ! Gave me a headache just thinking about it. BigFam's was a bit easier to figure out...you should be schooling your kids with that Bigfam! Sounds like a practical life question to me...at least you didnt have any order of operations stuff in there like the one that was on FB a few weeks back!

Kimmy....

So sorry you and Adam are having to deal with this kind of stuff! Hard enough to start a new job and then to have it be like that! Does he get to get away from him soon? DOesnt sound like he is learning anything but bad habits from the guy anyhow! Did I read that you just had a birthday? Did I miss something? Happy Birthday! (ahead or behind)

I think it makes sense to use less food...I will do some looking in the threads about fermentation and see if it will help me at all. I know my birds are always hungry cause they finish up the food I give them in about an hour...the corn even faster! Dan why do you add the scratch to the mix? To make it cheaper? Variety? But then add the Calf Manna to bring the protein back up? Guess I am in for some reading...

DrH--you be careful out there cutting that wood! We dont want to read aboutcha in the news ya know? All you other lumberjacks take care too!
Good news on the recovering patients! Being home has got to be so much better for the process for sure! Besides, then you can eat all the good eggs from home instead of those poor anemic eggs! Happy healing to Twain and Donny!

Looks like a winter view out my window today...not a leaf on the hickory tree and a cold blue sky above! Weird though 'cause if I look straight out the grass is all green! (and that is better than white!) I forgot to bring my jade plant in and only remembered after I was cozy in bed...brought her in this morning and hosed off the leaves in the sink. One area seemed pretty frozen so I hope she will be OK. Might have to do some severe trimming. The Hernia plant is still outside...I may put it on the dolly and haul it into the basement today...the plant is over 22 years old....I feel bad letting it die!

Guess I will head over to FB and see what kind of havoc BL4 is making...LOL!
In "suspense" about your scheme Jim...hey, maybe he is running for president? Oh wait, we'd know that on the 6th...hmmmmm.
Have a fantastic day--stay warm! TerriOwonderinghowGDhotDHisplanningonmakingthishouse?

Morning all!
Thanks for the well wished for Twain! He decided to head into town for some much needed "cabin fever" relief! He is in great spirits and is very happy to be home.

Got to the dump this morning and now I have more chores to do. Sure is a beautiful day! I might mow the lawn....maybe. It might be the last time before winter sets in.

The critters are all good at I think more of the pullets are starting to lay. The Meat birds go for processing this coming week. Thank goodness.

Well, best get a move on....
Later!

good morning

sunny in the northwoods hard not to squint

"Dan why do you add the scratch to the mix? To make it cheaper? Variety? But then add the Calf Manna to bring the protein back up?"
yup, cheaper and I like the grains added,,,yes the Manna I add for the protein boost and the extra package,,,was actually doing that all summer

just got off the phone with Jim,,,he won't come clean on that "deal",,,I could guess,,,but then he would say I'm "stirring the pot"
