Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Howdy everyone!

How's my extended crazy chicken people family?  In a move completely uncharacteristic for me, I'm awake and making banana bread at 5 in the morning!  My MO usually is to sleep as late as possible!  Well what do you know?  Where's my cuppa? :caf   ...Ah here it is... much better :)

I co-lead my first Daisy girl scout meeting last night!!!!   5 year olds!  What a hoot!  Only problem is I think I had more fun than they did! :D Oh well there's plenty of time to remedy that.  And now this house is girl scout cookie central.  Crazy fun talk!

I'm pleased as punch to be able to say the lil' Silkie boy I brought home from Heather's is fitting right in after a stupid start on my part.  He is just so cute it can't even be real.  It's 34 degrees in their coop right now.  Husband has a thermometer out there that we can read in here.  Technology, eh? :p

Have a loverly day everyone!

...Terri I'm coming over right now for an impromptu sock hop... I hope you guys are ready for me... and make some coffee, I'll be there in 5.

FINALLY! I've been waiting to hear. What did you guys name him? I'm glad Cheryl and her hubby could talk you down on bringing him back! ;)

How's the training coming? I think your beer run is coming up real soon...?

I still really like the Facebook pic. Mmmmmmm coffeesomeoneelsemadewithgoodstuffIdonthave

Hey Heather!

Hubby was the next one up to name a chickie.
bumble1.jpg

This is who he named him after. Bumble. Ok the name has kind of grown on me and the hilarity is not lost on me. It's actually even more hilarious now that I look at this pic. Ben really nailed it didn't he?
I call him Bumbie and Bumbs a lot. He is such a sweetie. Thanks again. Talking me down is right! I thought I was the dumbest chickie mama ever and just wanted to give him to someone who knew what they were doing for his sake. So given another week and a half or so, introducing his dog crate with the cage inside to the chicken run was just the ticket!

Gotta go wake up the girl now! More later!

Good Warmer Morning Everyone! Dvang it's listed in the phone book for the court house. MXM good to hear from you! Sounds like your being entertained.

TO it would take all the fun out of life if someone did everything for ya.

Had to laugh at BFF Bryan the other day he just turned 50 and was complaining that everything was a pain to do. He was going to go musky fishing then thought about having to sharpen hooks, get the boat ready etc. Ended up saying screw it too much work.

I told him there now you know how I feel. Yup all the mom and pop stores are disappearing. Keep shopping at Wal Mart.

FT hasn't checked in for quite awhile? Amyable too. 2 sheets of plywood Jim? Hope there will a lot of scrap.

Didn't get my splitting done yesterday. But I did get my loop road pushed through.

Didn't see as many big dead trees as I would have liked but that's OK less splitting. But the pile does grow faster when you split. GR unfortunately there aren't many "GOOD" trucking companies out there to work for. I got burnt out running mostly east coast in a very short period. Cind seems like time is standing still as far as getting lil Moe. CC I can't apologize enough for my indiscretion. Thanks for understanding.

Still getting 5 eggs a day. Had a little ice around the edges of the water bucket for the first time yesterday morning. Donny called around 4 to tell me that I didn't have to come over for evening chores he did them. Nothing too hard except for moving the cinder block that keeps the coop door closed. I yelled at him. Have admit that he's been pretty a good boy till he did that. Trying to get an earlier start today, got chilled yesterday morning doing chores so I didn't get going as early. Back to the woods.

ok, ok, you guys can stop the braggin' about a "little" ice around the edges of the water bowls any time now. I still have an ice BLOCK sitting outside my run from YESTERDAY!!!!

Marge... glad he is doing good. If my white silkie girl would ever lay eggs ( she just turned a year) we could have cute white babies! Oh and i have a daisy scout at home too! We are trying to sell cookies with my shy kid... doesnt work so good yet. Luckily facebook has helped her sales!

Hope everyone else is staying warm. Had to turn the heat lamp back up for the chicks in my garage. Hubby asked if there was any hope they were going back outside to the coop this year... didnt answer him on that one... dont think so and silence worked better! They are bantams so they are small to start with. They are about 8 weeks now, but still not so big!

Laying picked up for the weekend but was back down yesterday. Not sure if one doesnt have an full crop. Feels kinda bulbous if that is an answer. I beleive olive oil on bread was a good answer for that one.. any other ideas before I start that treatment? it is my piggie bantam and will eat anything I offer it.
My duccle rooster is finally starting to come out and visit with the other girls. He is trying to figure out how to woo them... so silly for a 6 month old. He is starting to make the cute cooing sounds to them and dance around them. Still cant figure out the rest... but I am sure it will come.

ok back to work!

Mrnnning all

Man I think I need more coffee! So the critters are great but true to form I think one of the meaties broke a leg. On the day they go to get processed. Man I am so done with Cornish crosses. From now on either I get Freedom Rangers or just process the hens as they stop laying.

Hey TO!-I thought MG eggs were white-ish...Could be wrong. My girl has yet to lay. Maybe in spring....That egg looks dark....I asked DH the poultry guru and he said and I quote: "That is a good question! I don't think I've ever had one lay an egg." Does it tell you in the SOP?

Dvang-You can also call your local 4-H leader. Not sure where you are in the grand scheme of Wisco but Dale Wheelock in Delavan/Darien area is a tester. If you go to the link I posted the other day scroll down to the Walworth Country Fur and Feather Swap and you'll find his phone # and email. He might know of the testers in your area.
Also Buck Creek Chickens (Paula) in Neenah is a tester too. She is not on here very often but if you do a search of the members here you'll find her to send an email her way.
Testing is cheap and if you really want to you can become a tester yourself. Here is a link that might answer some of your questions.

HTH!

Well, off I go to get Dee- O -Gee food and run to Menards and Walgreens....

good AM.
Yeah DrH, when I build , I make lots of scrap.. even the things I build look like scrap..

I counted the pullets as they came out the door today.. I opened the door so that only one could fit out one at a time.. 38, counting the black jungle hens.. there are about 8 of those.. we are slowly climbing with the pullets eggs each day.. I also have a hunch that there are hidden nests all over this plantation..

Cind, turkeys do very well in the cold.. however they do not like walking in the snow.. If you just provide a wind break , that would help. I surround one of my raised pens with bales of hay and leave a southern exposure.. all the birds spend a lot of time under the pen , in the sun, out of the wind.. I lay down a layer of hay for them to walk on under there, too.. If yours go in at night, all the better.. All of my older ones go in at night,, all the young ones from this summer spend their nights up in the maple tree or on the deck.. I will have to try to eddycate them to at least go into the lean-to .. they are not the smartest on their own..

It is cold and windy today.. I am going to dress warm and work on the dog house some more.. whenever I am not working on it, I keep thinking of things to add to it to spice it up more.. If I don't get busy, I will never get it done at this rate..

I figured out how to "nail" the vinyl siding on without having the nails poking through the plywood into the interior walls.. I am going to use 1/2 inch screws..

one drawback to having your own rough lumber is that I have to plane each piece, join one edge straight, and rip it to size.. slows down the building process a bit, but still a lot cheaper than buying all that lumber..
I have more time than money..

my cuppa is cold and I just heard the boss come in upstairs.. Hope she brought do-nuts..

.....jimfeelingmoreambitioustodaythanyesterday............

I'm bringing do-nuts for Jim to the Bash. The pancake maker Extraordinaire could use some spoiling. Glad Annie does it year round!

And I chuckled about the "what gets built still looks like scrap." Funny stuff!

So Dora is getting her groove on Nov 8th???

...i'm back mmmmm, pumpkin bread with (rewarmed) cuppa....

Dudes we went to ENGLAND two weeks ago! For a week! Is was so very awesome! First trip out of the country. Just spectacular. The reason I'm mentioning this is it was that week and the week before when I was a single parent that I only got one run in. There are a lot of other things on my plate these days and I just couldn't get myself to stick to the training for the 1/2 marathon. I got up to 8 miles before that but I'd be pretty miserable running with that training and no more. I'd want to go into it having done the training all out like I did last year. It was the best feeling during the race realizing that I did indeed have the stuff to get it done. I'd done my homework. This year was just not meant to be.

But the 10K was very doable and a blast at the Zoo Run Run in Madison last month! How about you Heather? Melissa? Someone just asked me to join their team for the Jingle Bell Run so I'm really hoping that comes together.

Bumbie can't get into the coop by himself! Putting a ramp in there is a bit of a nuisance. For now we're putting him in the coop in the evening. Will that change as he matures and grows more wing feathers in????

The facebook pix were taken just outside "traitor's gate" at the Tower of London!!! Starbucks just up the Thames from there, see...

.........margIcan'tbeleiveI'mstillawake.........

England sounds wonderful... we wanted to do more european traveling but kids got distracted us from that goal. Maybe in another 12 years...

Our silkies can do only tiny ramps and only one will willingly try to perch on low branches but it was not raised with silkies and does not beleive that it is one.

just ran to the store on my lunch break to grab some groceries and make a last minute halloween treat for kids kindergarten party tomorrow. Now eating some soup and back to work.. not motivated today.
