We show- or my kids do for 4-H, we are Wisconsin Flock tested and that one step down from NPIP. You can do individual bird testing but that is only good for a set number of days. WI flock is good for 1 year as is the NPIP, with these 2 you get retested each year. With Individaul bird testing and WI Flock the paperwork is good to show within state- atleast it was with my kids. NPIP is needed to cross state lines in my understanding. Hope this helps!Morning all!!
It is chilly and beautiful out there!! The dogs are all frisky and Buzzy is pouting...so it must be chilly!
Got the critter chores done. Need to do some house work...yuck...
Good thing DH was in the office...the phone rings and it was the pacemaker clinic...I forgot I has a pace maker check up today! All went well with it!
Judge-Sorry to hear about your goat...
Dvang-There are a number of people who show here. Terri O, and Hens and Roos. I also showed a lot in Cali but have yet to place birds in shows in Wisco. Basically you need to have your flock NPIP tested and have the paper work for that. You will need to make copies of your NPIP certificate so you can get your birds into the show grounds. Once you determine what show you want to go to, there is usually a person in charge of entries for the show and you can contact that person for a premium book. Then you fill how the entry form and mail it with your check by the entry deadline listed on the premium. The fees vary depending on the show.
As far a when and where, the UW posts a site that lists all the upcoming shows for the year. They list that in the spring before the show season starts. Some times it's hard to find on google so I use this site as they are pretty current:

The show season is at and end here. Beaver Dam was this past weekend and it's usually the last show of our season.
If you don't have one already, I recommend getting a copy of the SOP (Standard of Perfection) from the APA (American Poultry Association) so you can read up on the requirements and DQ's for your breed.
Showing is a boat load of fun and the people are super nice! If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me or email me. I'm sure I'll see you at some show this coming year. DH and I go to a number of them even if I'm not showing because he goes as the Nutrena feed rep and supports the local show scene. I go to oogle the sale cages and "not" buy birds....LOL!!
Good grief Charlie Brown!!!! 13o in October???? REALLY???My poor chookies! How can they be expected to adjust when we were in the mid 60's 4 days ago
I hate turning on the heater this early (or at all really) but with only 3 girls and a chick in the coop, even with it well insulated, they just don't generate enough body heat in this cold and not enough time for them to adjust. Oh well, just thankful the weather is otherwise good. I feel sooooo sorry for all the folks out east. I remember the record floods last year as far north as Maine and it's supposed to be worse this time and west Virginia is under a blizzard warning from the cold air mixing into this mess.
Pretty please???????
Thanks much! Does it cost a lot to get them NPIP tested?Morning all!!
