Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Afternoon! Got the garden done and the coop is airing out. It wasn't bad but I like to keep it clean. I think it was TO that talked about replanting her lettuces. I just cut mine with scissors and it grows back. Might have dress up and go check on my berries. Squito's and deer flies are nasty in the woods but the yard has been pretty good until dark.

Q'd pig ribs on the barbie with fresh salads tonight. Yummy!

Good afternoon to all. I'm pecking this out from my not so smart phone so it will be brief...Dr. H I never did take the time to thank you for all the wonderful music, I've been completely enjoying it on the rare occasions I'm not sleeping or working...you are one great guy Doc. I've been out of the loop for a few weeks now so I've got to catch up on my post reading...it was so much easier to do when it was 30 degrees out, yes?

Well, outside of clawing and scratching a living out getting things done on the farm. Bad news though I decided after much thought to let the birds free range and it was going great until this afternoon when I got a call at work from Mom sayingthat the dog she's sitting for friends killed 5 birds and really did a number on Jerry Lee...I won't get home to assess the damage until late tonight. Boy, I'm bummed!

I hope everyone is doing great, forgive my absence...

BBCB sooo glad your OK we and me were worried you know! Glad you like the music but you said you had some GCS hope there was something in there new for ya to dance to. Hope the owner of that dog is a responsible person but even so you can't replace something you love. I was cleaning lettuce and listening to Lost Dogs and mixed blessings that a friend of mine made for me and soon found myself dancing with the lettuce. . So many great songs on there. " I ain't hurtin nobody, ain't hurtin no one!" Thanks man!! Kicked butt this aft too. Coop is set to go with scrubbed waterers, fresh food, and bedding. Smells sweet! Looks like the wood is going to have to wait another day have ripe berries to pick. Should really be makin wood but the BERRIES are ripe!

Doc the responsibility for what happened with that darn dog rests solely with Yours Truly....I should have insisted that the dog remain leashed at all times while at the house...cripes, I'm the only one who understood the true nature of the threat, given all the re ading I did this past winter on this forum about what dogs can do given the opportunity. Glad I wasn't there, I might have killed that dog with my own bare hands, I kid you not. I just feel terrible for my little girl, she's the one who heard the commotion and found the carnage in the coop.

No one said that being a chicken rancher was going to be easy. Some lessons are harder to learn than others, right? Lesson learned, and I'm just mad at myself for not impressing on Mom and the girls what could happen if that dog tore onto the coop.

Murphy's law applies over here. I come home from wok last night to get working on the bathroom. DH and I get the vanity set up to put in, get the top on and I start getting the faucet put together. Of course the 100+ faucet is missing a part! So we stop working for the night and I start working on laundry. As luck would have it right after I have a few loads through the darm dryer decided to blow the thermal fuse!!!! Thank goodness I insisted on getting a retractable clothesline a few weeks ago!

So, today I had to run to the Valley to get my faucet replaced and since I was there I picked up some liquid nails specificaly for gluing marble and granite, and my towel rods. Maybe sometime this weekend I will have a working bathroom...........

!

Hey DrHaHa are you finding that some of your veggie plants have shallow roots? With all the rain we had, when I did start weeding I had to be extra careful not to pull the veggies with the weeds.. of course I had to use the push mower between the rows so I could weed the rows.

Tomorrow I will be taking some chickens, our rabbit JJ(got him from Terry O at the picnic) and going to school to show the kids in the getting ready for Kindergarten class. We will also have a couple of dogs there too!(maybe even a Scottish Deerhound!) Thought about taking a turkey but we only have 2 small girls and DD is taking at least one to the fair so we won't risk it!

Have a good night!

So Sorry BBCB! I too lost a bird to a dog this week...but at least only one! Man--that is rough! I hope it wasnt all your favorites that perished. DrH--I thought you would be off for a few days...well, I guess if he
FORCED you...LOL

Good that you got your garden done! The reason that I dont cut my lettuce is that it seemed to get bitter as it got older and older. There was a little left and I tasted it--BLECH
sickbyc.gif
it was nasty! So that's why I replant. Annarie--you really drive a ways to pick up your ducks dont you? Must be why you have such gorgeous stock hey? Good luck with them! And drive carefully on such a busy weekend! Raimnel...how in the world are you going to get rid of all those birds! I guess maybe that is why I DONT count my birds! I dont think I really want to know.

Well--we got another letter from the county...seeing as we are ranting! They are saying that we have too much junk aka "good stuff" lying around. DH says it is because there are more than 2 unlicensed vehicles and he didnt realize it. Brother, how can they even know and why does anyone care? I think it is because they want to get him to apply for a conditional use permit or a salvager's license. Both net the county $500 IF they pass it. If not they just keep the $$! ! DrH I think we are going to look at your county...maybe we should just get out of here and they can stop watching us! Either that or move onto another road...you should see the guy around the corner from us...buses and stuff laying all around his place. I wonder should I drive around my township and give them some other folks to spy on? Maybe that would just pi$$ them off more? Well DH says he is taking apart the rest of the dump truck and scrapping it and then hauling a pickup to the dump. I really dont think he will be able to get it out from under all the weeds...OK, end of my rant...they

KAQ--I have a chipmunk that actually goes INTO my house! At least in the basement. We have a big hole in our siding and I see him going in and out all day. The dog that I used to have kept them away for a long time but I guess they feel safe coming back now...and you MUST tell me where you can get a new tire for $27!!!

THe last ones I bought for my van were $90 each and I got the cheap ones!

Sure hope you get the Unenjoyment all figured out Raiquee! You must be in a pretty tight spot with both of you without jobs! That really is crap! Well--I am off to bed--good night, sleep tight! Terri O

Beautiful Morning All! TO Things are pretty loose in this township sounds to me that Big Brother is watching you pretty close. That sucks! Know what you mean about the lettuce getting bitter but it's not bad here must be the soil. The Asperagus does that though. I did notice that H&R about the shallow roots agree must be all the rain early. Had to replant half the cuc's cause the seeds rotted. Had to laugh about the mower in the garden, took 3 large wheel barrow loads out of just the cuc's. L's alarm woke me up today couldn't believe it. Getting dressed to go feed the squito's and deer flies and maybe pick some berries. Should be back in time to weed the maters before the sun gets on me. It won't take long to do. Then make a cake, cut up a watermellon and do dishes. And oh so much more.

Thanks Terri, I appreciate the good thoughts sent my way

I hope it straightens out too.

Does anyone happen to know how long it takes for a green Black Krim to color up? I've been waiting on my first beautiful black Krim for WEEKS now, and I'm so scared a pest will find it before it colors up

Any idea?

BBCB...glad to have you back, but sorry about the attack. I can deffently relate to that. Mine was back on January 14th.

Dr Ha Ha, I see that my "wild" blackberries are starting too. But the blackberries at my uncles that are almost the size of your head....
big_smile.png
......are still small and green. They should be ready in about a month from now. They seriously are HUGE!!!! Most of the time, more than an inch long!
cool.png
My friend and I are going together when they are ready. But you have to wear jeans and a long sleave shirt. Those thorns on them hook back on them. OUCH!!!!

So. Today I plan on weeding a little more of the garden. My hand and shoulder are getting better. WOW! That hurt. Then maybe today we'll get back in the pool.

Enjoy the day everyone!
