Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Welcome! Funny about the Devoted Wife. My DH was snooping one night and when I saw him in the barn the next morning he asked me what DH meant. I said-"Dear Husband". He goes ya right it means Dumb Husband doesn't it?!

Hope you enjoy it here, I know I do
It means whatever fits them at the moment, right Jim?
gig.gif
That's why he refers to his wife by her name.

good evening all. Hopefully I have all the animals locked in good and tight so they can't get out tomorrow again.
Question- tomorrow my dad is coming and him and I are going to butcher a heifer that split out yesterday. Should be a long cold process. Done it many times before but not when its been this cold! Anyway- we always hang the halves for a day or two before cutting up the steaks and roasts. Is that the same idea with what you are talking about with chickens? I had never heard of doing anything special with them. We just butchered the roos and threw them in the freezer. Maybe that is why they were so tough? So...I'm supposed to leave them sit for awhile before freezing?

Good Morning all,

All of you newbies are driving me nuts !!!! Now I have more names to remember and was planning on commenting but can't remember who wrote what.. And CC don't tell me to open another window..... that gives me even more to think about and this old brain is barely puttering along !!! LOL

Anyway, first question for Delish (??? hope that is your username)
Where abouts in Racine are you from??? Union Grove ??? Caledonia ???
I was hatched and raised there, just moved up here to town of Nashville 6 yrs ago.
Let me know if you need roosters, next time I come down I'll bring you some (for pets lol) and yes I am one of the female enablers on here. lol

Snoozerooze or whatever we're going to call you. Shoot, now I forgot my question for you. Tiki244 hops on here once in a while, she is in or near EauClaire. Still can't recall what I was going to say though ???...

GR... You'll survive... You have all of us here.... Oh and you had better clairify how you know Jim makes good pancakes for breakfast !!! lol
Glad your MRSA is healing up BUT DH ET (dear,**** or devoted husband, Egg Toast) (although he doesn't even know how to use a computer I gave him a username anyway) ok, oops forgot where i was headed here.
Anyway on Friday he had a loop recorder put under his skin to record his heart rate and because he had confirmed MRSA in the past they all had to put on an extra gown (except the doctor didn't LOL) before they came in the room. Anyway then they said he needed to be tested in three different areas on the body on three seperate occasions and have negative results before he is officially cleared of MRSA.
So he's sitting in his little hospital gown (now I'm starting to hysterically laugh while I type) with just his underpants on with a sheet drapped over him. The nurse comes in to do the tests. She pulls out a foot long (or so it appears) Q T and sticks it inside each nostril and gives it a swirl in each one. I was thinking geeze the same Q tip in each nostril. She just swished his boogs around. LOL. Then she does his arm pit..no biggy there. Now the funny part. So here I am his DW sitting next to the bed and this good looking young nurse pulls the sheet off of him, raises his gown and says. "These have to come off" referring to his undies !!!! She needed to swab his groin !!!! LOL I darn near wet my pants trying now to start laughing as he with no hesitation starts ripping them off !!! LOL OMG I can hardly stop
lau.gif
laughing right now !!!
Then I said to him you just have to pull them down and she said.. Nope they had to come off ! Good thing I had found him a nice looking pair that day !!!!
gig.gif
You men,,,, have no shame do you !!!!

So point being he still needs to be retested two more times to be cleared of MRSA.
Just something to think about. It is serious $hit.

Ok now where was I ????
Oh, Bf4m..... what size and color poodle again ??? Can't wait for pictures too !!! Yeah, silkies aren't like other chickens. They are like the poodle in the dog world !!! Cute and fluffy but not in the top 10 for smartness like the poodles are !!

Bl4 Thanks for all of the hay lists. I'll check them out. I posted an ad on CL and last night a guy emailed me and gave me a name and number to call. I called the guy today and he is in Gleason which is closer then where I was going. He has grass alfalfa mix first crop for $3.25 a bale and second crop for $3.75.
I don't need the second crop because donkeys aren't suppose to have the higher protien. So we went to town to get my bone density test and I drug DH ET along so we could go look at the hay afterwards.
Got the bright Idea while we were at the clinic to get him his flu shot.
Needed to see the hay and make arrangements before he sold it all. We won't need any until next week so wanted to make sure he knew I was going to take some.
Very very nice people. The hay was at his mothers farm and I found out she had chickens so I was in her coop talking for quite some time. Very sweet elderly woman from yugoslavia. We talked so long that when we got out of the coop DH ET and her son were in the house. She invited me in. She made coffee and then pulled out some ho made sugar cookies. Needless to say I will start my diet tomorrow !!!
She was so dang cute. She had her kitchen decorated with chickens. She loves her chickens. When she talked to them they cooed (is that even a word) back at her and then she kissed a couple of them. So cute.
So for now I'll be getting my hay from him. Hopefully he'll have enough. After recalculating we will only need 175 bales a month. We were feeding 6 bales total a day but went down to 5....All of my animals are FAT so will moniter them closely. I was thinking chicken food that only lasts 10 days. Hay we pick up about every two weeks. Even still it's almost double of what was paying.
Now need to figure out where that is coming from.

Thanks for keeping you eyes and ears peeled Bigz I appreciate it. I think Jim must skip my posts !!!

Had to laugh at everyones ice capades.... Vicky, unka, Jim and his frozen hose and Bf4m with brain freeze......and this is only the beginning....as for me I was slip sliding away down to the pig house and breaking ice with my heels....ah gotta love Wisconsin....

Ok night all...time to play some freecell before bed..... Jim I've played 318 games and won 313 out of them....how bout you ???? addicting isn't it !!! Kinda like chickens.

Hi All..

Who ever was asking about chickens and "rig" Personally, if you have the room keep them in the frig or cooler for 24 to 48 hours. You can even feel them loosen up so if you keep checking you should be able to tell when to freeze them. If you froze them right away, you can let it thaw in the frig for a few days and it will loosen up. I did that with the one I cooked today. Big ol' 1 1/2 year old roo (nasty guy) will be a big pot of chicken noodle soup! I made the stock today and will finish it for Tue. We had steak tonight but smelling that chicken stock cook made me ready for soup! Humm.... maybe I'll make rolls too... to bad Jim's recipe is on the dead computer
hmm.png
or was it BigZ's.... anyway it's lost for now.

Grrrr... I know there was allot more but I'm so tired.

Night all!

Morning all......... cold out there this am I haven't yet mustered the nerve to go out beyond the door to let out Leo.......... don't think I'm gonna have enough coats to pile on once it really gets cold.....

BL4........ yah he is at HOW, 4 days of orientation then on the road 2 weeks for training, 1 nice thing is they will re-reimburse us for his school loan, and they will train him right the first time so at least I won't have to worry so much. After he gets some time and miles under his belt, he plans to find something local, he is not so happy about being gone so much either, but he is a man and don't fall apart quite as easily as I do. Funny thing is my X did this Job back in 90 and I couldn't wait for him to the get the heck outa here......... I would have loved it if he didn't have to be home but 1tx a month, but Adam is a good husband, and I feel today like I lost my best friend yesterday.........plus my room is cold and I really missed my heater last night..........couldn't get warm for anything. Adam called me at 5:45 and he didn't sleep much either, said he told his room mate its hard to sleep alone when ya have a partner your used to sleeping next too......Hope he has a good day...........

Now who was it who wanted to know why I know Jim can make awsum pancakes???????? hummmmmmmm think I will let Jim tell ya all about that......... hehehehe keep ya guessing for awhile.

So anyway I best get to chores I bet my poor fat horses are starved to death already......and my chickies want out of there coop to go hunt frozen bugs......LOL Later all .....Kim

Ok I'm back chores are done meat chickens are now in the freezer......... almost wish I had more, but I bet Jim is thinking Hope she don't wanna butcher here every year.....LOL
Don't worry Jim we won't, but if you need help all ya need to do is ask, we will help anytime ya need help no matter if its chicken related or not, you and Annie have been awsum to us and we are very grateful...... Ya do know though when we get the stuff together to build one of those fantastic chicken pluckers of yours we are probably gonna need a bit of help ourselves, from the expert...!!

Anyway I forgot to tell you all the good news we got Friday from UI, well it seems they could not get a straight answer from the jerks at StraightShots, so they are re-instating his unemployment, it won't be for much but them couple checks they held will surely go a long ways in getting us by until his first real paycheck, which I'm not sure when that will be he does get paid 250.00 for the 4 days of orientation, then his training pay is I think 400 or 450 per week, which will seem like a zillion next to 200 a week.... so maybe all your good vibes finally broke the Curse!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :ya

Yah BL4..... I heard that accident killed 14 cows? how close were you to the site? didn't know they still had loose cows though, be safe driving until they round em up...hitting a 200lb deer is bad enough I would hate for anyone to hit an animal that weighs 1000 lbs....... I seen a semi hit 3 horses once it wasn't pretty, and I seen an idiot sheriff who wouldn't put down the 1 living animal with a broken back, he had to wait for the vet he said......... the owner was begging for him to put him out of his misery, but they left him lay in the hwy 3 hours, b4 the vet finally got there...... Had it been my animals I think I would have went home got the shot gun and did it myself.........OMG some people are ignorant.

DRH...... take it easy .already , or I'm gonna come up there and tie ya down for at least a week, back trouble is bad enough, if ya don't aggravate it....... now go rest will ya.......

Cind .......I think the bun recipe was mine if you would like it, I think I can find it, and re post if you want, its for potato bread or buns....... so anyway gonna go try to find something to keep me busy........... noone to make breakfast for this morning..........even the boy is still asleep. Later all.....Kim

Ghost, the time will fly by just keep yourself busy and make his homecoming extra special!

Frenchie, happy to help. I wish I could do more.

Judge, good luck butchering your heifer...... we have a few cows on the run over here from an accident yesterday morning, I would like to avoid them this morning at all costs. I would rather hit a deer than a cow!

Off to the Valley this morning. I hope I can be finished by noon so I can do a little grocery shopping before I come home. Then the DD#1 wants to go driving this afternoon. All I really want to do is go back to bed.......

Better get another cup of coffee.......

Good Morning Good People! I'm with GR think SR is the right way to go For Snoozerooster. Just because I'm lazy! Glad you have joined us "SR" Personally like Jim said I wouldn't put them in warm water think you'd just be inviting possible problems. But your query and subsequent answers made think about it, now going to leave em for a day or two before cooking or freezing to get the toughness [rigor] out.

judge think the longer it hangs the better. Enzymes start breaking down the muscle and makes it more tender but you don't want it to freeze either. Have a really good vid on the bumble foot operation might be the same one. Have attempted it twice and had to stop. Was afraid to continue and cut something that I shouldn't. I know just do it woosie. But he's on antibiotics now and will see if that takes care of it. It's only about half the size of my thumb nail. Got Taz Adantage drops too. Vet said the fleas have been really bad this year and hard to kill. Bl4 I do miss my chiro but now being an out of pocket expense........ Back has been better the last couple of days. Think pushing the chimney brush probably impeded the healing process It's very hard for me to just "take it easy"! FT sorry you didn't get your wake up poke.
hide.gif
Sounds like you've made a good connection for hay. Don't you just love good people! Jim yes I warm up her car every morning. Think it's the guilt of her going to work and not me. I do enjoy the quiet time when she goes down south though. She used to call me 3 times a day while gone. Have it cut back to twice. Told her she could tell me all about it twice in one day instead of three. See I'm not that great of a guy.
celebrate.gif
Works out well though I get her car out and take care of the kids all at once. The sun is shining! Forgot to say sorry to hear about your back problems Dan, Bigz and I'm sure others. I gotta go rest now.

Ouch! No wonder Jim is so cranky a majority of the time.

i would rather hit a deer than a cow because when you hit a cow, they do't let you keep it. LOL

My birds are out yelling at one another this morning as if to say I'm cold! I'm cold! Are you cold? I'm cold!
