)
So I just wanted to say good morning and now I am heading out to let birdies out and feed horses then off to work. I will try to get the video up this afternoon. I filmed it sideways....geez what a dope!
John I may take you up on your offer! Can you snap a pic of him for me? (thanks Buddy)
OK I need to go. Have fun! TerriOnotreallywantingtogotoworkthisearly

ETA: Chickenscratch that was very well said!

here He is

His brother was all black and white no gold. Coon got him

good early PM,, got 5 goose eggs today.. they are piling up fast in the fridge.. Annie is going to blow them out and make decorations out of them,, (like we need more ?) I think she has over a dozen to do as of today..
the chickens are up to 26 eggs per day..

my pet peeve of the day: people who ask for advice , and after comments are submitted, they come back with all sorts of information and comments why your comments are not valid.. some times they are not even too nice about it..

I am at the point where if it is not chicken related, I am no longer giving an opinion.. and even then, I am holding back when I figure the discussion is too far from reality to straighten it out..

those of you who go way back with me, know how I feel about hatching, and candling ..

I talked to a friend ( mechanic ) about my frozen oil problem.. he suggested draining all the oil from the gear housing and letting it freeze,, the water should freeze and can be separated from the oil.. I am going to go that route and see if it works.. nothing to lose, eh ? however if the oil is "milky", then I should just change it out.. I found the specs on capacity.. there are 5 gallons of oil in that gear case..

Now I just have to bite the bullet and go out in the cold and do this..

Hey John...now I know who is "mother" is! I still have her too. Does your boy have feathers on his feet? I couldnt see from the pics. If he does I certainly will borrow him for a bit if that's OK with you...Or I could trade you for some of "his" eggs or chicks! Let me know...

JIm, you're funny...I thought the same thing!

Heading out to do chores in the "light" for a change...later! TerriO

Thanks Terri! It looks like you have a LOT of drakes in that pool.

Kudos to the local school today. I had to pick up my youngest for a dentist appointment and when I arrived at the school I noticed the Police were there. When they buzzed my in I asked the secretary if the kids seemed to be ok and that I had noticed the police car. She said the kids seemed to be fine and that the officer was there in case the kids had questions. The officer was going to be coming back and having lunch with the kids later in the day as well.

Now here is the 'oh my gosh' moment of the day. I was out shopping at the FR Mall looking for a Civil War Kepi (the hat). I walked into a store and asked an associate if they could help me and if they had any Civil War caps? The girl looked at me blankly and said she had no idea what I was talking about, she would ask another associate. The second associate proceeded to ask me if the Civil War was fought in the 1920's! A third associate came over and started schooling the other two and asking them if they ever paid any attention in school.... and then proceeded to let me know they did not have that style cap.

Oy vey!

Off to the second of the three Christmas concerts tonight. The youngest has his program tomorrow.

I asked about the Barred rock because they use them with sex links. I have a mutt Silver Pencil Rock. (SPR). I have never heard RIR are mean. I have some Heritage RIR in the bator now. I have never had a mean roo. So I can't help about that. I nip that in the bud when they are young and flare at me. Usually once is all it takes. This roo is a bit afraid of me and when he is picked up he acts like its soup time and he is on the menu. Poor thing. He is pretty large, that is a 5 gallon bucket and he is still growing. He was a July hatch.
OHHHHHHHH hes pretty............ I like him where are you at, and if ya don't wanna sell him would do a trade in the spring so I could use him over a coupl eof my Girls....??? I like big roosters, my hansom weighs in at 10 lbs....... possibley more I haven't weighed him in 6 months.....

You are right BL4! I think I have 7 drakes and 2 ladies! I used to have 2 more girls but they seem to be "missing."

I did find a puff of breast feathers...not so much hope for that one. Time will tell I guess! They do have a bunch of fun in that water trough though! You would never have known that I filled it up that very morning with fresh water!

OK--so I took a bunch of pics of birds yesterday (during the Packer game--see what you can accomplish?) LOL. So here they are: I will comment as I can. Click to enlarge of course.
B&W and Br&W Muskovy ducks

One of my Aussies trying NOT to get her bloomers wet!

Feeding frenzy!

Almost perfect....maybe this year?

The new meaties enjoying their fermented feed.

My sad Cuckoo Marans.

Black drake; Perhaps they are reverting back to wild coloring?

He has gorgeous iridescent feathers!

See the Cuckoo with Gold JJ? That is your boy's Mama!

Buckeye for Brent! He has turned into a gorgeous bird. ( He is very polite too!)

Me Red. He really is more orange...this pic doesnt do him justice!

THis little man is such a brilliant red/rust/black and a blue chest. He has a very interesting cushion comb similar to a Redcap. Very interesting for sure!

Tried to get a shot of meaties after eating but as soon as they saw me they thought I was going to feed them again and came running!

No idea what this roo is...although after reading some on the sex-link thread (thanks GR) maybe that is what he is?

One more nice duck!

OK--that is some of the pics from SUnday as I was checking out the birds....now for supper...
Lamb roast and roasted veggies with broccoli. MMMM--had the LO for lunch.

Elliot enjoying the lamb bone!

OK...one last pic and this is sitting here being eaten as I type...tonight's dinner is a Mexican Lasagne created in my own head!

And it is ever delicious! We had it with Cantaloupe and the LO broccoli from last night. OK--I am done for the night! (I am sure you are glad!) Nighties! TerriOperhapsabitpicturecrazytonight?

large enough to make a walking stick! She only brought a piece of one home. Just add it to the collection of items she has bought off the natives over the last 8 years!

the sex link link was interesting and will have to try it this year, and I think it might have made my idea to go all wyandotte a little easier! oh the options!

TO the muscovies are pretty cool and am wondering how they would do in a chicken tractor with poultry fencing with a small scrape (hole that holds water) type environment

does anyone have a lab that they use as a bird dog and it is around thier chickens? I am trying to convince my family we should have a lab! I only have to make a small deal with the devil! lol

we had moose t-bone and moose burgers for dinner tonight!

Are you all ready for this storm?

Joe

Thanks for sharing all the pics TO. I was wondering how the Buckeyes were doing. Thanks for sharing a pic of him ( I think he looks nice).... You must of really worked fast to be able to capture all those pics during halftime, eh!

Forgot to ask you H&R...what are the size of your breeding pens and what ratio of hens to roo do you use? And how long do you allow the roo to stay with the hens in the breeding pens?
