Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

They look alot like my Black sex links.......so I would guess that Bl stars are what they are never seen any with white on them tho......... but it depends on what they use for a cross, 1 of my Girls Daphne, looks alot like a wellie cross, even lays a huge dark speckled egg. so thinking her cross must have been a wellie roo over a Br hen, the other 2 are almost all black with just a little bit of brown flecks on the neck, so probably a RIR daddy over the BR hen.......
The first picture you posted looks a whole lot like Daphne, in the bottom photo the far right hen looks to be a Marans or wellie cross ...but that is a good mix you will have some dark eggs from them, all my BSL girls lay a huge egg darker than a Delaware, but not as dark as a BCM, but a couple of them are speckled....... are these girls laying already? they look to be by the combs......how old are they, my girls are 2 and still laying about everyday 6 eggs a week sometimes 7.......... there nice birds for laying, and mine are very friendly. I'm gonna hatch some eggs to make me some more for next year, soon as I find the right rooster that is.....I have 2 BR hens, and a couple SLW I plan to use for my Sex links..... Kim

Thanks. So sex links are different or the same as stars? They were spring hatches and were laying when I got them in fall. Now I get only about 4 eggs from my girls a day.

They are the same different hatcheries call them different things I think the black stars are exclusive to TSC, but they are all sex links meaning males will be a different color, than a hen and sex able at hatch............ depends on the cross.... red sex links are the same also called golden comets, tetra tints blah blah depends on who is selling them.......
There is a great thread on sex links if ya wanna learn more.......here https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/261208/sex-linked-information

A Silver Pencil Rock for a roo?

Whats a SPR? and no I don't breed pure breds yet anyway, I have several kinds all hatchery stock.......... but pretty nice birds for the breeds, I have BO, SLW, BSL, SS, BR, Delawares, and EE's. a mixed flock and 2 roosters a Nice Delaware Roo Named Hansom, and a EE named Grey Beard......... had a beautiful SS rooster but he turned out to be a devil chicken and went into freezer camp....... I almost wish now I would have kept a BO roo, but they were not very good quality roo's though my hens seem to be good......... alot of comb and scrawny issues with them..also a couple mean ones.
I had a really nice BR rooster, but sold him...........I think I would like a BCM or Wellie rooster, for sex links, I read RIR are also mean......... what does everyone say about them.......???

Afternoon All....plenty to do, however I'm lacking the ambition to get er done.

Sorry about the bird losses. Good thing we all have extras to share and replentish the lost ones.

Glad the Pack won the North again. What was up with the flea flicker call, being up 11 points

The niners sure look good.

Best Wishes sent L's way Doc. Hope it goes smooth and easy.

Yep, they stole the baby Jesus out of the lighted manger in front of our church....we don't want to arrest anyone, or press charges....we just would like it returned...no questions asked. Two other churches had theirs taken also....prolly right about the kids, bl4.

Don't know how large that penis bone is Mazo, however the ones from the black bears make excellent stir sticks for your cocktails....no pun intented LOL!

I asked about the Barred rock because they use them with sex links. I have a mutt Silver Pencil Rock. (SPR).

I have never heard RIR are mean. I have some Heritage RIR in the bator now. I have never had a mean roo. So I can't help about that. I nip that in the bud when they are young and flare at me. Usually once is all it takes. This roo is a bit afraid of me and when he is picked up he acts like its soup time and he is on the menu. Poor thing.

He is pretty large, that is a 5 gallon bucket and he is still growing. He was a July hatch.
