And just so I am clear: I can start this in March? They will be outside.

55 posts people! Wowsers!!!

My lights are helping the chickies. I'm getting eggs every day. I am thrilled to have gotten 9 eggs the other day! I think I forgot an egg or two the day before though. ;) I am happy to have 2 dz eggs to sell! Shoot Kim... I would love to sell all those eggs. The money would be a help.

My remaining Australian Spotted drake likes me. It's new. He seems to love poking at my wellies. He has been staying put for some pats at my feet. Doesn't like to be picked up though. But he follows me out of the shed, in between my feet. I don't know he's thre till I kick him, poor thing...

I have YET to see a guinea egg or duck egg. All were hatched early may. WTH? What does a guinea egg look like? I know they or the duck aren't being sneaky. The big wussies won't leave the back shed. With them in the coop, or the shed itself, almost no one ventures outside. No place to hide eggs then.

I have been feeling cruddy for sometime now. Had strep, a cold, etc. I hopped on the scale the other day and it said I'd gained 15 in 3 wks?! I was like no way! I went to the dr and had them draw blood. (All out of pocket for the visit and labs!!!) I'm waiting on most of the results yet, but apparently my iron is really low. Huh? I'm not sure what's up with that,. But since I don't eat veggies (well hardly ever) and the only red meat is usually ground up hamburger, they're suggesting my diet coud be the culprit. REALLY? Now I am supposed to actually think ahead about what I should eat, and eat it, even if I don't want to? Being an adult sucks sometime... :P

I've also been snoring something terrible lately. Hubby has been bunking up with a kid because its SO bad. Thinking about ordering one of those mouth guards that moves your jaw forward to stop. However, with a deviant septum (I like the sound of that better than the real way) breathing through my mouth is about the only way I can sleep. So I guess a nose job is in order, so I can order the mouth guard, so I can stop snoring. Then I guess then some liposuction to remove that 15 lbs plus 35 more. That might help the sleeping too. Now if only I could sell enough eggs to cover my surgery costs...

Ok peeps... Off to try and NOT snore. I told hubby I'd take the couch if it was too bad. I have a feeling I might be might be borrowing a CPAP machine in the future...

Cute pics, Del! I prefer to keep my momma & chicks separate for at least a few weeks before returning them to the flock. Mine can all see each other, but I have a fence to keep the adults away from the mom & chicks. A few of my adults have pecked the chicks pretty hard in the past, but they've never caused any damage. Feed the momma & chicks a chick starter (she will show them where it is & how to eat). Another reason I like to keep the chicks separate is because the adults will gobble up all the chick feed before the babies have a chance to get any. Mom will sit on a "nest" & keep the babies under her until she feels they are big enough to roost.

Lav chicks Robin... I read it, forgot to say... Spring time... You hatching them for me? :D

guineas will not lay eggs in the winter,, at least mine never have.. and my muscovy ducks did not lay in the winter either.. prolly because they are both from warm climates.. my turkeys and pea hens wait until it warms up in the spring, too.. some chickens will not lay well in the cold months also.. once it warms up all heII breaks loose around here...

You want em now, you're welcome to them. They are already acclimated to the cold & out with Jack. And can hardy be called "chicks" anymore........
In the spring? You get eggs.

Now I'm going to be having dreams about Heather snoring. Better than her & the fat sucking contraption, I guess.

Judge, yes, you can start in March. Or whenever your hens decide to go broody.

It is not exactly milk re placer..more like milk re placer with extra cream, vitamins, nutrients, electrolytes, and iron. FF carries it.
March is a good month for some hens to go broody. So is April..

Hi All!

Dr.H... trying to wake "the kids" up when they are sleeping, at least a couple hours before bed time, may help. Like TO said... wear them out then!

BigZ.... good luck getting rid of those mice!

Brandi...

judge.... Yep, you could keep a broody in the coop and just divide off a little area so she doesn't get pestered too much. I have a broody cage I use for some but some I just made a space for. I think it's more relaxing for the hen to be separated though.

Wow GR.... what are you doing to those hens? Go out there and eat a bucket of chicken in front of them?

Bf4m... Snoring is one reason (along with temp and time differences) why DH and I have our own rooms. We both snore

Your weight gain might be the culprit as to why you started when you hadn't much before.

Jim... I caught one of my turkey hens "displaying" the other day. I was kind of cute. Do they do that when they are starting to get "receptive"? She also chased the other hen a bit too. If so, what do they like for a nest?

I wanted to take some pictures today and my camera seems to be dead. Yes, I changed batteries. It won't turn on at all.

Guess that's it... Night All!

At you giving me Lav pullets or nasty little Roos? And can Jack get thrown into the bargain? :D or Hershey?

Jim... My last remaining duck hen is a Cayuga/Buff mix. You know anything about them? I seem to remember CC using the grasshopper patience thing on me before... I wonder if there is a theme starting here? Hhhmmmmmm, is there a hint I'm supposed to be getting....?

Good morning btw everyone!
