Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good afternoon and WELCOME Peacock!
My great accomplishment today was doing laundry and cleaning out the refrigerator! Whoo--Hooo--now I can buy more food and it can fit in there!
Isnt it fun to take pics of babies Judge? I love taking them of my birds but I so agree with CC and am thankful for digital! I still remember picking up my film pics and looking at them in the car and realizing I did not have a decent picture of__________. Of course the fill in the blank things were gone by...like a birthday or holiday... It always makes me laugh when I hear poeple say, "just one more!" When they are doing digital...duh, you can SEE if it turned out! That must be a leftover statement from the old film days...

There was something else I wanted to say....oh yeah, that truck comercial. Since I didnt watch the game I had to see it on my computer but one of the comments on a blog I read kid of hit it on the head I thought...what kind of farmers can afford a shiny new truck like that? Not the ones that they are portraying in that add for sure! Guess I'd rather keep up with the feed bill or put a new roof on the barn...who posted that truck thing a while back? Many of us said that it described our trucks to a T!

OK--speaking of feed...I have to go and get a few bags...later! TerriOalreadydreadinggettingupsoearlytomorrowtogettowork....

Wow--nobody's talking tonight either! I have to head out and lock up...it's that same old thing about having to get dressed up again to go out! Such a drag it is!
I hope you all have a good night...Talk to ya again tomorrow night! TerriOhedingoutandthenheadingup

I am tired from shoveling snow. DH is gone for the week and I can't get the snow thrower to work. Made a nice path to the coop and put straw down for good footing and hoped it made the birds venture out. The ducks said no way..at least the chickens kicked the straw around a bit. I spent so much time waiting for the mom to get off the nest with her brood, but, she never did. I will try to get pictures tomorrow. They are so elusive.

Good night all..

Lock down for me tomorrow..I am having silkie egg problems and stressing. All the rest are doing good.

Judge...super cute pictures.
This morning heard a peep louder than normal...found a little peeper walking around the room. Somehow popped out of the brooder....which all the little poop machines are already outgrowing.
Apple trees..fun to here what you all have. I have a couple of haroldsons..a McConnell red...a couple honey golds.. A few we don't know....my favorite.a snowsweet...that one is relatively new variety and its awesome! I have a plum, three sour cherries , two pears, and we have a beautiful nectarine that some else had planted. Prettiest tree in the orchard.....but never fruits. Been told even if I bought it a mate...probably still wouldn't. Not right for our climate. Don't care...it's such a pretty tree. We planted 36 grape vines last fall...well see what happens with those.
Been reading about ducks...some people wrote they like to eat those Asian beetles..is that true? God if so...I will get a whole flock of them..they'll be treated better than the Peabody ducks if they'll eat all those nasty beetles. So tomorrow is my volunteer day at my daughters school and then she has a little friend coming over. Winter is getting long for the kids. I suppose off to bed I go....interstate everyone.

Sorry cs. I am nowhere near ready to be setting orp eggs yet. I only have 1 lav that is laying, and I'm not even sure how often that is right now. Out of all of my 17 hens (various breeds), I have only been getting 2 eggs a day.

Apple trees.........I remember someone mentioning them, but that's about it.

I have a red & a yellow delicious, a liberty and 2 pixie crunch, but those two won't be producing much for a couple more years. I also have pears, plums, pawpaws, a nectarine & a peach, cherries, mulberries and a bunch of other bush fruits. And thanks to a couple late freezes last year, I got nothing all summer!

Oh yeah, you are exactly right, Terri. I remember saying the same thing to DH after the commercial was over about what farmer do you know can afford a brand new truck like that? So true! I think Carol originally posted that farm truck joke? Not sure, though.

Del, you just be careful shovelling. And good luck on the upcoming hatch.

to the Cheesehead thread, peacock! Hope you like it here.

The cats are giving me their version of stink eye. Guess I better go feed them. Sweet dreams, all!

Hi All!

DrH... Was that place not insulated? The last place we lived was almost insulated. What little there was had settled so we were insulated to about 3 ft up.

delish.... Congrats on the little cuties! Hope the potential mom takes the 2 new ones!

Judge.... I have no clue what his mom may have been! I do have a couple of New Hampshire Reds, Australops, production reds, wayndots (sp), Ameraucanas and some "mystery chickens". All I can say for sure is daddy was an Ameraucana.

Since He's not supper big, has a big comb and is friendly(ish) maybe mom was a production red. (Gold Comet)?

CC.... I was thinking about that "good daddy" thing. If you think about it, it the smartest thing a roo could do. Take over a clutch when they are young, have them get in the habit of fallowing you and depending on you. Then when they get of breeding age they already accept you so you have your harem! The cockerels think of you as a leader so are less likely to challenge latter. Makes sense to me!

TO... I agree about film! So many times I would spend more than what I could really afford for developing, only to find out most of them were junk! Remember when slides were a big deal? What a waste those turned out to be too.

I have not seen the commercial yet. Computer is REAL slow tonight. But yea, few farmers can afford nice new trucks! LOL As for fruit trees, we have an apple and a pear tree. no clue as to what kinds. They are pretty old though. I don't think many people got fruit this year with the weird spring. We want to get more fruit trees but money is an issue.

Yep, time to try to get to bed. Night All!
