Short day on the thread tonight I see. People must have been busy watching the game.... or gone.

Awww, nothing like a hen and her chicks

Nothing much here either. We didn't watch the game. None of us are really into sports. Neil (#1son) did allot of sports in HS and well...I think it depresses him now.

Those of you who saw him.... hard to believe he was a star athlete.

For those newbies... Neil has an aggressive form of M.S.

Anyway, one of the young guineas kinda got "lost" at coop time and I couldn't find him but could hear him. Then I remembered that the Dom roo was "daddy" so I chases him out to get the guinea. Sure enough, he heard the guinea and started calling him. Less than 5 min. and they were both in the coop! Gotta' keep that roo!

Guess that's it.... Night all!

Good snowy morning to you all. We are out of eggs for the first time in a year! Ugh...I might have to buy eggs. I hope the girls lay today.

Good Morning All! cs I can't stand to buy eggs I wait. Have some cereal. delisha cute peeker ! Can't wait to hatch under a broody this year. Cindy that's neat about dad callin the youngin in! You have to appreciate the skills of the qb's! To me the best part of the game was L's nacho's! Left the fluff in the driveway looks like we could get pushable stuff all week. Thinking of starting of the gutting and remodeling of the 2nd bedroom. Will start with the closet first need for a little warmer weather for outside walls. Got 6 eggs yesterday think that's 2 days in a row. Babykins has frostbite on the tips of his comb.

snow? I haven't looked outside yet.. now that reminds me,, I didn't throw the tarp over the straw bales..

I had one guinea stay up in the pine tree a couple of nights ago.. it was cold, and the next night she found the coop.. what happens is they fly into the tree when the sun is shining,, but at around 3 PM the yard goes into total shade because the sun gets behind the wind break.. so whoever is in the tree, just hunkers down, instead of coming down..

not much to write about.. when it gets light out, I am going to the restaurant to pick up my pool winnings.. this was the second or third time I ever got into a pool.. I only did it because they were having a hard time filling it..

Congrats Jim on the pool winnings. Don't spend it all in one feed mill.

So.... we are not big football fans here, but we went to my SIL's house for a Super Bowl party anyway so we could hang out with family and watch the ads. The military one Oprah narrated was good, but the one that stopped everyone was Paul Harvey's God Made a Farmer speech. It was a very well done ad, but I do not think people will remember it was intended to sell a truck.....

Made Cajun roasted cauliflower for the party; it was pretty good! A nice change of pace from the normal blah cauliflower. The cake was a hit; very rich! Difficult to eat an entire slice.

Time for a second cuppa.

Good morning! I always forget that there is not too much to read when I read late and come back early! The radio says it's 18 outside...my porch says 10! WTH? The porch is usually a bit warmer than it really is...now I dont know which clothes to wear!

Cute baby Deli--do you know what they are? DrH--it's real easy hatching under a broody...especually when you dont know where they are sitting! SURPRISE! Here comes the hen with the babies in tow. That is my favorite...she always looks so proud of herself!

I have my parrot out of his cage this morning. He is exploring (read breaking) his new toy on the top of his cage. At least it's not my woodwork he's breaking! I guess the plastic beads are no match for his beak! Supose I will go out for chores in a short time. I want to set everything up for speedy feeding tomorrow morning at 5. I am really disliking the hours of this job. I really hate waking up in the dark and doing chores in the dark. The summer is bad enough but winter is a killer!

Good Morning Eggyone. ;-)

Its a bright sunny morning here. We had snow last night...made the roads slippery for driving home.

Nothing really on the agenda for today. Clean the little peeps...and just th normal around the house. Suppose to warm up around the weknd...would be nice...would like to clean up the big chickens. I too haven't been getting eggs these last couple of days...I have about 1/2 dozen left...somebody better lay some soon. Family went ice fishing yesterday so have a mess of croppies to eat for dinner tonight...yum!...my frend talked me into doing a mystery quilt. Class with her. Don't know what I was thinking...never made a quilt before. Ok..that's th scoop here. Have a great day!

I moved mom and the chicks this morning..I was going to take pictures, but I was so shocked at what I found when I lifted her off the nest and put her on the ground....4 black Orpingtons and 4 surprises, and an additional 2 eggs peeping..Good thing I had a pullet on a nest. I shoved those peeping eggs under her since she was setting on golf balls she found under the DL. If the pullet does not kill the peeping eggs, I will give her some of the other hens chicks..

Denise: We have 8 mature trees here 1 honeycrisp and then 3 we are unsure-but they produce enough for us, family, freinds, deer, chickens, cider, 4 coolers to tide us over the winter and still tons leftover!!! Love them. We also have pear, apricot, and cherry trees which arent old enough to produce much yet. Also, about the ducks-I LOVE the small call ducks....but the idea that they have to have freshw ater to rinse their nostrils in during the winters has prevented me from having them in my chicken coop.....BabyLady and BlackBrookPoultry have some beautiful ones!!

What kid of pear and cherry trees do you have? I have 2 honey crisps that should give me apples this year!
Congrats on all the eggs!! We were on a hot streak there for awhile and I even got to sell a few dozen, now we are down to about 25% again :-(
