Becky--you can use an insecticidal soap. Do you have Jap Beetles eating them or aphids? I have heard that DE works on aphids...never tried it myself; I try to stay away from roses. too high maintenance for me! The best you can really do for the beetles though is to hand pick into a jar of soapy water. I hear from my other MGV friends that they are pretty bad this year!

Just got back from an extra job...where, I never thought that house was that big until I had to clean the whole thing! One of my clients moved out and they hired me to do the before closing cleaning. Now I know what H&R goes through monthly!!!

I am not envious of her job in the least...I didnt even have to paint...although that might be easier than wiping the dirt off!

Hey Cheryl---if you ever have any time how's about coming here to help me at MY house! You can paint right over the fingerprints...I promise!

I am going to UW Madison this weekend for a campus thingy with DD18 who will be attending there in the fall...My other daughter will be gone and Dh will have to take care of the critters...can you say NERVOUS? He is OK with the dogs and cats but not so good with horses,sheep, goats and multiple species of BIRDS! Those turkeys and guineas are the big thing...they have to be herded back in every morning. Today I just left them out and their pen door open...I guess that is the better idea. They'll be out free-ranging soon enough I guess. I hope nothing gets them while I am away.

Well--I brought home a bunch of plants from my job yesterday...I guess I better get out there and get them into the ground. I am sure that the garden needs picking too...oh yeah!!!!!!!!! I have the day off tomorrow

guess I can procrastinate a little.

I really want to get to my friends' place and pick some Red Raspberries...all this talk about pie has made me hungry for a "fruits of the farm" pie...My own recipe of course! I made some blueberry pies at the retirement home on Wednesday so I know that my lard is good and I havent lost my touch!

The pie must have been good; I barely managed to get any!!!

My youngest DD has her birthday today; so the dinner menu was mashed potatoes, peas and sirloin steak! To top it off, homemade birthday cake and ice cream!

After dropping the 3+ dozen minnows into the pool 2 days ago; they have ALL been eaten. Fat little devils......

Anybody have any idea on the coloring of those babies??? Annarie where are you?

He/She/It is SOOOOOOO dang cute. Omg. Wow. I have never seen a duck that cute before lol.

I don't have much else to say, it's been an uneventful day

All we did last night is go out to celebrate our friend coming back into town, and all I did was drive the drunkies home. Yeehaw. We then went late night swimming, which was fun but COLD all at the same time. Today, all I did was somewhat clean. I get this feeling that clean is never achieved with two boys in the house lol. I cleaned the countertops and 10 minutes later, Ed is cutting open something and it leaked all over the place. I glared at him until he cleaned it up.

In more exciting news, a rabbit was in the garden munching my mater plants and Ed got him! Took 5 tries and me laughing at him the entire time (because i'm very supportive!) So, I have a rabbit resting in my fridge, with plans on vac sealing it tomorrow. Letting the rigor rest out.

Try as I might I just cant get a decent pic of the 3 babies that hatched in the barn. The previous one in one of them but the cutest one is very shy...and her Mom VERY protective!

One last pic of one of Frankie's babies from early spring. They are all grown up now but still hang together. I think I got one that is a mule and the other 3 are OK. (but not real sure yet)

Whoa, BCC, very cool! How'd ya get close enough for that good a pic? A week or two ago, DH saw a heron in the yard by the berry patch, which is between the house and coop. He even got a pic of it. I've NEVER seen them that close to the house, maybe 50 feet away. They usually stick right to the pond at the end of the property.

Becky, if it's aphids you can try laying banana peels under the roses, or spray with soapy water. I had that problem too when I actually had roses. Both worked for me. Don't seem to be having major pest issues here this year, but the slugs, my lord!

King, you might as well give in. Resistance is futile!

DrH, you need another vacation I think.

Good morning people! Nice pics too! Found I couldn't go outside without at least wearing long pants. WOW the skeeters! Just had a yote come through the yard just now. Managed a long shot with the shotgun about 70 yards hope it was enough to keep him away. L saw it while I was typing. It was a biggun. Now the kids are upset in the coop. Going to find out if I fixed the saw this morning and finish cutting up and splitting the remainder of the tree out back. It started and ran fine but the proof will be when I put it to the wood.

Didn't get the lawn mowed was just too tired so that's a carry over. The boat is ready to go except for gas and life jackets. Getting very close to having enough gn beans for winter in the freezer and still need to make dilly beans. Probably 2 qts of cuc's ready for canning, maybe 3. Payday tomorrow quite the adjustment only getting paid once a month. Also got some grn peppers and jalpeno's put away. Gotta go!

SLUGS OMG tell me about it, ALMOST as bad as skeeters! I said ALMOST! My DH is going to fog tonight when every critter is sleeping being carefully not to let that crap get near them!

Duck coop is almost done, they will be in it today! had to go to fleet farm last night to get the rest of the stuff, oh and feed, nasty bill! I can't wait till we're done with these fatties! next year we're going wtih different meaties! any suggestions??? something thats a bit slower growing, like say 4 months to be 6-7 lbs?! and they can run a muk with the rest of the flock till butcher!?

BCC what kind is that small duck? she/he is cute and small! way to cute all those pics! love the different colors!
also I was meaning to ask everyone...... yesterday I noticed a chicken whezzing, what gives? any ideas? it was mainly in the a.m.! IDK

gotta run! gotta go look at coop doors see how there made!

hey one more thought, we're "naming" our duck coop, got any suggestions?
our chicken coop is named the COZY COOP!
heres some of our thoughts for names, ducks-r-inn, waddle inn, duck inn, quacker motel, fuzzy butt lodge (sounds ummm gross)

You all should talk to BL4 about slugs. She made a "slug trap".

For "rose beetles" that I have, I put out a bucket near the rose bush that is filled about 1/3 with water. They go in to drink and can't get out. Works awesome! Don't know if anyone has a rose beetle problem other than me.

I had a WONDERFUL day yesterday. I ended up taking my boys to a local beach. We had a picnic too.

And swimming. And while we were there, I ran into an old friend. We've known eachother for forever. Sat floating around with her for hours! It's kinda funny. Her parents went to school with my parents and then we went to school together and now our kids go to school together. But we hardly ever get to see eachother and we only live a few miles from eachother. We vowed to make it a point to get together!

She has 3 kids. 13- boy, 11- boy (like mine, only 3 months apart. Always have gone to the same school, but have never been in the same class together) and a daughter whos 8-9. So that'll be fun!

I wonder if my ducks would like a coop? I am betting not; they pretty much go where they want and sleep where they want too...usually right where I am going to step the next day!

That Heron pic is really cool! My Mom had one in her little yard that found an easy meal of her goldfish! Now my Dad put netting over the pond...kinda wrecks the effect ya know? BL4--Ya better watch out when you get those minnows for your ducks...maybe you will have a visitor like that too...if your ducks didnt scarf 'em down so fast that is!

DrH ya make me tired...what else can I say? My DH got up at 8 and is still drinking coffee saying we have to go to the island and get my van. I sure hope it just starts and I didnt short out anything! Note to self: The van doesnt like to go in water that is up to it's body! Wont try that one again! Sure hope my client got out OK. Guess I should give a call to her sister...

My daughter is planning on a career in animal sciences with a photography minor. (forgot who asked) I really wish she would become a vet...would make everything simpler ya know?

But she doesnt like the idea of blood and stuff...

She is hoping to combine photography with her love of horses. If anyone can pull it off she will be able to!

Hey, has anyone ever planted bush beans and have them come up climbers? The plants I have in with the sunflower have decided to send out long climbing runners! What is really weird is that I thought of planting climbers there so they could go up the flower and on the fence but I couldnt find any seeds...weird co-incidence?

Did anyone happen to see that quail coop in IN that guy was selling? My DH says it is too far to go and get it--I am sad...I think I might like to get into quail--it was cheap too! Speaking of quail...little Button is chirping at me--I think I forgot to give them fresh food this morning. She is running back and forth sticking her beak out of the cage. I think I will try to get her up on my hand today. She lets me stroke her lightly while she eats now! God--she is so adorable!

I just want to hold her...and try not to squeeze her too hard!
