Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good morning,

we definitely have enough snow to make it worth getting Ollie fired up..

I was supposed to start my new job today.. the man called me and said it would be OK to start tomorrow.. that takes a lot of pressure off of me.. Now I can do a decent job of plowing..

JJ, do we know what guy ??

I didn't know if my turner was working on auto,, so I turned it manually,, 2 minutes later it turned with auto,, so life is good..

hum is holding at 40% and temp is a steady 99F.. my thermometer does not indicate fractions/decimals ..

I had bator #3 fired up for awhile yesterday.. I did not have to tweak it at all.. Now all I have to do is clean it up and have it ready for goose eggs or what ever comes next..

I feel like having pancakes today..

I did have some water run into the hen house door, but the litter on the floor is so thick, it did not get messy in there.. I have a bottom layer of wood chips that keeps the moisture on the floor.. very good drainage.. I get my wood chips from Asplundh when they are trimming trees for the power lines.. they are always looking for a place to dump chips close by to where they are working.. all you have to do is stop and offer them a place to back their truck in.. make sure there are no overhead power lines .. a pile of chips will last for a couple of years without rotting away.. and when it does rot, it makes good mulch for the garden..

I spread a load along the drop-off along my driveway.. I let the grass grow, and now I have a gentle slope that I can mow..

Denise, good idea about the orange box.. I wonder how long it will run a bator.. why don't you give it a test run and let us all know ??

What am I thinking, trying to add geese when all summer I'll be waddling to and fro....hey, maybe I'll fit right in, huh?

And here comes the water. The creek went from a trickle to a medium river in a day. My pair of Welshies found it immediately, and they are pleased as punch. Anyone getting duck eggs without supplemental light? Haven't gotten an egg yet, and she's 10 months old.

Kids were up at my folks all weekend, and DH was out of town Sat, came home with the kids on Sun. I took advantage and cleaned cleaned cleaned the house I neglected for 3 months due to morning sickness induced apathy. I love when I can do things uninterrupted, and blast MY music all day.

I can't wait to take that rear blade off the tractor and hookup some dirt working implement

I'm amazed at the ease of use for the Sportsman, hopefully fertility was good. Think I'll post a listing on CL and see what interest there is for OE's

ok, I need to get some snow moved, have customers on Mondays and my UPS guy will appreciate it when he delivers my new boots!!! (I get pretty excited over most anything this time of year)

Did you take them one at a time... out of the box and give them a drink of water? Sometimes with so many it looks like they are all drinking..but they are not. I would re dip every single chick. Do you have electrolytes in the water? Sugar?

Chicks dropping like flies is NOT normal. They start dying at this time because they are done using the yolk. They have nothing left. Sprinkle feed on the floor. Use your finger and tap by the feed so they can hear your tapping and watch your finger. Baby chicks are called by mom and shown feed all day long. You are now mom.

Good really late morning! I didnt even stay up real late last night...Let the dogs out at 6:30--wished the DH a happy and safe drive to Nebraska and went back to bed...slept until nearly 11! I think it feels like I slept so long cause I hadnt changed my bedside clock yet...then I looked at my watch

Dan, so these "Jobber" boots are made by the Muck Co? I am going to talk to BBP....I would SO like to get a pair with actual treads on them. My pair are marked "Tack" and have a horse on them...the sole is nearly smooth with only little rounded bumps for traction. Must be for folks that have nice clear walks! I wear mine all year too and the tops are pretty ripped up. That doesnt bother me much though...it's the split in the side that makes my sock wet that does it. Shoe Goo lasted about a week and then peeled off. They just dont make footwear for people that USE it!

Two cups down and I am starting to feel alive...MXM's birthday today. I need to make her a cake! Maybe me and the kids will do cupcakes and take them over later. That would be fun.

I start my agility class Wednesday night. I am a little nervous that I wont be able to keep up with the dog. It will be good exercise at any rate!

CC--thanks for looking out for me on CL! I sent the guy a message. Maybe I can unload some of these pigeons. They are sitting on eggs already! (2nd clutch for the year--the first ones werent fertile) Pigeons are really nice that way...I dont have to do a thing....

Jim--I believe that those bators from milw CL were purchased by Hurley and Chickenscratch? I cant remember the 2nd purchaser. CRS....BUT at least I remembered that they WERE purchased!

wow the rain, hubby and I had to go out and knock down snow and ice that were in our drains because the water was damming up and over our drive and our road. Bad stuff. Of course kids tried to come and help... I know there is at least one plastic shovel that got sucked under there. Told the kids they have to wait for spring and it should flow out then. Poor chickies have alot of water in part of their run. Not much I can do for it.
Old dog is gone and puppy is happy again. Have training for him next weekend with the trainer coming to our house to work on his greetings of people with either involve him running out the front door or jumping on people and mouthing them with his teeth. Kids are having friends over this afternoon and i will spend the time holding the dog. will be glad to get this worked on. whining at him does not work.

Incubator is holding steady. Gained a few degrees last night and I was tempted to touch the temps but held off and after an hour or two it went back down. must have been hot in the kitchen where it kinda is near. finding patience is not my virtue.
interview prospects in sight. one place I phone interviewed and going in for a face to face interview next week ( i do these for a living, just harder on this side of the table) although it is a formal insurancy environment. I have been working in a pretty laid back atmosphere for past 5 years.
And I have a phone screen for a job that is more customer service and admin, but closer to home. I sent my price range and they still want to talk to me so that is good.
Saw one a few weeks ago that looked neat that I applied for, but guessing my price range scared them off! To drive into madison and afford a sitter in the summer, need decent money. Anyway, that is the sage of of my life. Back to cleaning!

This is for Ann.. New chicks!!..One did not hatch yet..I am pretty sure it is not going to hatch, but, left it in.
Yup freaky looking! My son thinks so too! And here I thought we would never find a chicken he wouldn't want. Aw look at the little fuzzy butts, now those the kid wants! Along with those RIRs he's planning for. See I told you he was a chickenaholic. But then I'm the enabler. Got the new birds all settled in. What a card that rooster is! They went to eatin and drinking right away. Red, one of our buckeye roosters thought he should come over and give the new guy some pointers on roostering. They had their up and down, hackles raised, clucking away talk before I disrupted is with a toe nudge in Reds rear. He shot up in the air, jumped over a round bale and was still protesting when I came back up to the house.
