Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Evening to All... Congrats on the hatches you guys!
Busy here today...cut another ice cream pail of broccoli, and a 1/2 of 5 of pickles. Made pickles and onions in sweet/sour vinegar. Strouganoff on a bed off rice, with tomatoes and onions by the side.
Took a short nap by the fan though.

Yep, you wanna keep all your flour , sugar, and masa in air tight containers...we use large tupperware, and 5 gallon pales with the covers that have the rubber gasket...never had a bug problem

... still glad the masa is there.

Another great issue of backyard poultry is out...You guys don't know how much good stuff you're missing. Feature breeds are white serama, phoneix long tail, bronze turkey, and silver appleyard duck. I read every issue cover to cover.

Have Fun... ~ bigzio

Bigzio- just got our issue of Backyard Poultry today too-haven't had a chance to read it yet!

Hoping to have a little time to candle the eggs tonight-tomorrow is day 14 so hopefully we can see which ones are developing.

Hot again today-spent most of the day inside working on our unit-probably will finish tomorrow

My mom surprised me with a subscription earlier this year (which, much to her dismay, only fueled the poultry obsession here!

)

Oh - and 4 ducklings out now. There are two in the brooder, the bloody egg from this morning is now a healthy duckling running around in the incubator, and I caught a glimpse of a new duckling under momma duck when I was locking everyone up for the night.

TO) Yup, see you tomorrow! And, I don't need a cake lol! I'm fine with getting to look at your collection of animals!

I wish I had a sub to poultry magazine! Maybe I will pick up a copy if I end up bringing a box of duckies home!

Well unfortunantly my oldest daughter is sick. fever and sore throat and headache. I just hope the rest of us don't get it.

Anyways It doesn't help that I have to work all week. I'm supposed to be a sub for the post office, but the next 3 weeks are going to me more like full time+. should keep me busy tho. plus I have to get my oldest registered for school and go shopping

so the extra money will come in handy. I have 25 baby guineas now

I really don't think 1 is going to make it because it keeps its head bent upwards and is always looking behind it, so it's making him fall backwards and then he can't get up

I see a lot of you guys do canning, does anyone have any good recipes. My husband really likes bread and butter pickles. I make sun dill pickles, but have never had any luck with regular ones. They always end up kind of mushy

Plus we are looking for a good pickled egg recipe, again that's one of my husbands things. I think pickles and beans are the only things that need to be pickled.

Congrats to everyone on all the babies. They sure are cute and fun to watch!

Good Morning Everyone! It's still dripping off the roof didn't put the rain gauge out again but don't think we got that much. fbg Yes a lot of canning and freezing just made some B+B pickles for the first time so I'll let you know how they turn out then pass on the recipe. Same with one of the dill recipes although I have it on high authority [BL4] that it's a good one. Have been looking for a good dill for a couple of years mine never turned out crisp either. Hope your DD is feeling better soon! Sounds like your gong to have a yard full of noise.

Raiquee I'm jealous you get to go see all of TO's managerie. Hope you have time to go on a successful Monty and Stuart hunt. Annarie

on the baby ducks! Bigzio your a good man and a good cook! My garden has kept me hoppin can't imagine having as much as you have.

But we sure do enjoy and appreciate what we get from them. Aren't those 5-6 gallon pails with the rubber seals just the best! H&R good luck hope your candling shows 100% fertile! I think it was Teamchaos that has the barn sign Almosta Farm thought it was funny! TO sounds like your having company today

When I looked at your canning shelves I was jealous at the amount. But the thing that caught my eye was the slight sag in the shelves, don't ya just love it? My shelves are about the same as yours and doing the same thing. Kicking around the idea of canning the carrots as opposed to freezing them, running out of freezer space. But that's a very good thing!

Need to get a case of qt and a case of pint jars. Going to make bread and pick beans today. fm that was funny! "Looks just like his Dad." All of you guys are what makes the world a better place! Thanks!

Well guys, wish me luck (and strength!). I'm going to "look at" two pairs of Sebastopol Geese in just a minute. I'll probably end up bringing them home.

And then I'm off to pick up those rabbit hutches/Call duck pens. I'll check back in later this afternoon (with pictures)!

WHOOO HOOO--Annarie! More birds for you (and for me in the spring!) Yes, I certainly would like some of those eggs in the spring if they are going to be paired off and fertile by then! I can trade you some Toulouse.....I have always liked the Sebbies! Speaking of goos eggs...I see that Terrielacy has some blown out ones for sale for crafting. She says that is how they earn their keep! Made me laugh. I wonder if she is able to sell them at all? I tried putting some on Craig's List this spring and didnt even get a bite.

Yup--looks like I will have some company today...dont be expecting too much Raiquee...this place is a MESS! I sure wish I had a DrH around here to help out with stuff! (sorry L)

Hey, I have an idea...those kids want to see what it is like to grow their own stuff right? Maybe I can get them to work and we can share the bounty? HMMMMM.....

Well I guess I better get out there and pick some beans before it gets any hotter! Man the cicadas are really noisy already--seems like a bumper year for them too. All I can say is too bad they dont eat mosquitoes! Have a fantastic day! Terri O
