Jim! Hows it going with your hatching?? Inquiring minds need to know!!!!! Any palm turkey toms yet?? And you never answered my ?s about them. Would one turkey just stick withe chickens, or choose to run as ay with the wild turkeys if not kept locked up?

Didn't you buy these chicks from a hatchery? I would guess that Marek's is correct but I would call the hatchery asap, if those chicks were to be inoculated (as most hatchery birds are) it was missed or something is wrong in their system. Cull it yes, but do contact them.

A friend went through this last year, the chick will not recover, you can waste time with it but it will die eventually and have to suffer recurring episodes.

Good morning! You guys are FUNNY today! I almost doused my screen a few times. I wonder exactly what a raccoon s'more would taste like...can you enlighten us JJ? Maybe you can bring one of them along to the bash?
That is an interesting article about Herpeticum (or whatever it was called) If you have the patience for it you could give it a try. It didnt say if the birds remain carriers or not though. If it was easy to get a hold of the tablets I might try it just to know if it worked or not if you needed to save a particularly valuable bird. (like Tommy....

) BTW--he is very excited to attend the bash again this year.

I cooked the burned syrup pot with baking soda and vinegar and let it cool over night. It cleaned up some but not all by a long shot. Today I will get some Ammonia and set it outside for the fumes to work on the burned stuff. Works great for burner bibs and such...we will see. Good thing there is a few days left for sap. I will have to save it in the buckets until I get my pot cleaned up...or maybe I will go to the Mexican Grocery store and buy MY OWN! LOL! It is really sad that we have doubles of nearly everything here.

There was something else...oh yeah, I hope you feel better today Cind! I have a remedy for you...SUNSHINE! It is making me feel better every day! I even got up before 8AM today. It is amazing the energy it gives you.
I headed right outside and also did half the chores H&R! Too funny. I also had to check my trap...not disturbed in the least! I thought for sure I would catch that skunk! Cind, if your skunk is under the porch hopefully it will move on (they are nomadic) before it decides that under there is a fine place to raise babies! We had one under ours one year...man little skunks are adorable! But yes, they do have a "smell" about them for sure.
I would also like to report that the peroxide, baking soda and dish detergent takes away ALL the smell on a dog! It was amazing.

OK--I am needing more coffee...and really need to get dressed and carry on! Grocery shopping to day with the kids....I better get that fridge cleaned out so I have somewhere to go with the food! Made some chicken stock from the roast chicken we had last night...the 6 of us polished off a 4.8 pound bird quite effectively...I wish I would have made a bigger one! (BTW--it was delish!)

ugh... did my not smart thing again... have had bad back pain for last two days and then yesterday got a bug up my bum with ds about cleaning out the coop from the winter mess so we climbed in and shoveled that gross mess out. Chickens are thrilled but back went from bad to worse.. have not been to a chiropracter in about 5 years because I felt they just did not do enough good for me, but going to try again today. i have probably taken too much meds already and it still hurts. Carrying my heating pad with me to work today and next two days will be on my feet so really need to feel good about this. Off to chicago to legoland tomorrow and science and industry museum with hubby and kids. Should be fun little getaway and hotel was a steal...

Carol was supposed to come over yesterday but too sick. She has not seen the chicks yet!! They are getting pretty cute I tell ya. Kids have a bunch named although I told them that we cant pick them all because my friends family is coming this weekend to pick out their new flock! Although I am keeping the two polish that hatched... wish there were more. Oh and have an olive egger and a columbian rock I want too. I am sure there are more... but waiting. Only one of the white rocks that deli gave us eggs for has black spots so guessing that will be columbian. although when feathers come there could be more. She has a cute little black spot on her beak that looks like half a mustache so we call her moosestach... too cute

Terrio, I did read on. The person claimed to have put her chicken back with the flock with out any issues... idk tho. I woild be very leary. The more I read, I think I would also cull :'( and im sooo not that type. Idk, it would be a hard choice, if it was one of the kiddos favs...
You should teach me the song you sing with the kids on the way to ths store lol. I made up a song for my kids onto the way to dog training lol fhey have learned that mom is never paying attention to them at class ;-) theyve been try ing to take advantage. The song actually helped! Thanks.
