Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

That's kinda sad. No wonder I've never ordered chicks through the mail. Poor babies. No thank you. I'll stick to hatching my own.

Aaargh! I need someone to calm my nerves a bit. The chick that pipped the wrong end still has made no progress. i don't know exactly what time it pipped, but i noticed it at 7:30am. I can see a small amount of the membrane, but cannot see a beak. It is peeping like crazy though, just not doing anything to get out. Also the humidity has only been 57% at its highest, and 49% at its lowest since the pip. i have gotten nothing done today except read online, and keep checking the egg.

Deep breaths now. It can take 24 hours for a chick to make it out. It will get there. Have patience, grasshopper.

I hope your chick hatches!!!!
I also think you should go outside and clean out the coop for something to take your mind off of it. It took me a loooong time to get mine done yesterday!!! And keep us posted :)

Judge... I am ducking and running after I say this: I assist. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. If you want an idea of what it takes to have any chance of success go to YouTube. Look up double yolk egg hatching. There is a woman who very carefully and quite knowledge in her practice, helps a hatching egg. It is a labor of patience and of care without always a good outcome.

That being said, I would wait until tomorrow morning ( or at least midnight when you get up in the middle of the night to check on it). Helping widen the pip whole. But the trick is the membranes. You could make it bleed. You could shrink wrap the membrane if you don't put a damp paper towel around it. Like I said, not a good habit to get into.

Honestly, I probably have a 35% success rate with assists. May be 10% of those don't make it after hatch because they shouldn't have hatched. But the other 25% live and grow. Yes I did assist in my last hatch. I had good results, but I have been screwing around with this for a year now. SOOOO... I've weighed in and given you the terrible advice. Do with it what you will. Be prepared for failure and be ecstatic if there's success.

YES.... I am now running and hiding waiting for the fall out of this post...

You better run! Bad, bad Heather!

Now go to your room and hang your head in shame. I don't care that you have the patience of a gnat. Keep your stankin' mitts off those babies.

And you wonder why you have bad hatches............ Set them eggs and leave em alone.

:lau. OOPS!!!

Angie I am moving in!!!!! Staying at home on that many acres you could justify it by raising ALL of your own food! I know you do not want to do the butchering part, but it is so much kinder to know that what you are eating has been well taken care of and has lived an amazing life instead of what really happens to our food.

TO, I will take whatever syrup you can spare! My kids love the REAL stuff! I usually end up buying it from Sam's so I can get it in a decent quantity!

Judge, leave the chickie alone. If it is supposed to hatch, it will. Now having said that I DO assist the Calls, but only because they have such difficulty hatching. If I did not assist I would hardly hatch out any babies. The last hatch of Taffy's I believe we had 9 make it; best hatch I had before that was 4.

Well the prom kiddos are off to Olive Garden in all of their finery, and then to the dance. I managed to get some fantastic pictures of them at my sister's house and after they eat I am going to meet them over at my neighbor's house for more pics, and THEN I have to head over to the dance to take even MORE pictures! Good thing I got up at 4:30 this morning!!!!

BBL!
