Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Guys I got a question, do you think a 6 ft. by 7 ft. coop will hold 13 chickens? I got to design a coop for my friends family and they want a coop for 13 standard sized chickens.

I have a 22' X 6' with a 5X6 brooder coop connected. currently 12 standard, this winter especially seemed just right as long as they have been cooped.

But I really over did the hatching this spring, 7 in a brooder box in my living room, 2 weeks old and 12 eggs to hatch 4/24/13, guess I will have to add on to the floor and roosting area ( again)

DD12 and her team got 3rd at state for their improv performance. This is great for a bunch of 1st year twelve year olds, but it does mean that they didn't advance to Globals in Knoxville, TN. I am sad for "her", but for me....

ok, I'm going to research all of the suggested plants, vines, shrubs, etc

Grandma sent the boys cowboy hats and some really snazzy cowboy boots. Don't have images of the boots (but they're nicer than any shoes I own, sheesh Mom), but here are a couple images of the boys sporting their new hats...

I love them. Not sure where my babies went, but they are darn cute little boys!

So a "friend" of mine has a golden retriever and a pitbull (female). Neither are spayed or neutered. She had inground fence and a collar for the retriever, but the other digg chewed it off and they ran off together. The pitbull got hit by a car but recovered. Now today she claims she got them both collars, but they ran of again. Someone shot them both. The golden died after getting home and the pit had to be put down. Now everyone on Facebook is feeling sorry for her and ripping on the person who shot them. She lives about a mile cross country from a dairy farm, a few people have horses near her and there are neighbors with poultry. She's getting comments like "thats illegal" and "that person deserves to be shot". What if someone was protecting their livestock? I really want to post that on there but I know I'll be the bad guy. I'd be beyond mad if someone shot my dog, but I think this was irresponsible pet ownership. I would bet any amount if money that she'll have a new dog before next weekend.

That is funny and so true !!!! Sure wish I had some of those panel trucks!!!

Oh and Yeah, I agree about the propane thing. They spit out a printed reciept showing the gallons etc. I think someone just doesn't want to pay !!!

Colton, your parens must be so proud, you sure seem to have a good head on your shoulders. You must have helped your Dad a lot hey? Did you build or help build your coop too?

Does anyone have black currants, red choke berry, gooseberry, rasp/blackberries, ground cherry, asparagus, ramps, rhubarb (that actually gets red and grows pretty tall), bridal wreath, honeyberry, or blueberries that they'd like to pass on????

I'd be willing to accept any of these!!!!!

Wanted to post a photo of my first attempt at old rooster cooking. Coq au Vin de Hurley. ;)

He was pretty tasty. Meat had texture to it, but wasn't leather, so that's the first step.

WoW, that is sad all the way around. So how long in between the pit getting hit by the car and them getting out again and getting shot?

I've been scanning CL a lot lately and what really bothers me is all of the dogs that are in need of new homes AND ARE NOT FIXED !!! Ok, I know I know a lot of men don't believe in neutering BUT there is such an over population of dogs that need to be RE HOMED... which I think is a joke too. What the Heck is wrong with people re homing all of these dogs. I know situations do come up but for heavens sake THINK people.... don't get a dog if you have no idea what the H3LL you are getting into.
And the amount of Pit Bulls out there looking for homes is ridiculous !!!! I have nothing against them but I think insurance companies do so how often are these poor dogs going to get re homed ???
Ok, something just hit my nerves when I read this post of unaltered dogs !!! Sorry but it is a sore spot. There is actually a person in Antigo with a wanted add that says she has a shitzu/poodle or some kind of small dog mix female and is in search of ANY small male dog to use for stud. She said she only wants one pup and the studs owner can have the rest or ???? She wants a litter before she spays her dog !!!!!! She doesn't even care what the father is or what happens to the other Pups !!!!! OMG..... I truly truly dislike some people a lot of the times !!!!

Ok, calming down now. I don't think I mentioned it but I have been volunteering at a spay and neuter clinic up here. It is a mobile spay/neuter program called "The Fix is In" They have a van with a trailer with the Letter M. A. S.H. (mobile animal spay hospital (I think that is what it stands for)lol
It is such a rewarding thing to be doing... Plus I get to see all of the doggies and kitties !!!
I had my kitty spayed last year by them and decided to volunteer. I don't have any hands on with the animals..... they have one full time vet and two full time techs doing that. It is very professional. I was really impressed. The woman who started the program volunteers all of her time.
So what I mostly do is wash all of the surgical instruments after each procedure !!! Hey someone needs to do it and I take that job very seriously, I wash and wrap them and do it they way I would want them done if it were my dog or cat being fixed. I stand there all day and depending on which town were at and how they set up the room I get a birds eye view of everything that's going on. I'm to far away to see the actual surgery but it is so cute to see all of the kitties knocked out with all four sticking straight up in the air while they get shaved and vacuumed before being brought over to the surgical table.

The part I really like to see is when the people come to pick up there babies, a feeling I've felt myself... they walk in and look around searching for their pet and look so worried then relieved when they see that Fluffy is fine !!! It sure is a good feeling knowing these animals have such caring parents!

So anyone in the NE WI area being, Rhinelander, Antigo, Crandon, Weston, Wausau, Medford and I think Tomahawk and maybe Minoqua the program has a clinic to get this done. The spay/neuter includes a free rabies shot, ear cleaning and nail trim. Regular Vaccinations are also available for a discounted price as well. Some counties get grants and recently cats in some counties could get neutered for $5.

Ok, I'm off my soap box !!! For now anyway !!!

That was some fast researching.

I believe FT is plagued by either choke berry or choke cherry, but not sure which. I have a black currant, but it sure hasn't done much for spreading in the past 3 years I've owned it. Maybe has more shade than it likes?

Honeyberry doesn't do much either where I have mine. Raspberries would probably do well for you. They are pretty prolific in normal years, but the drought last summer stunted mine. If spring ever gets here, I might be able to get DH to dig out a survivor. Just keep the chickens away from them or you'll never get any for yourself.

Yeah Bigfam, I know I have no behind, but you have plenty for the both of us, right?
