Welcome WIchookchicks!

Good evening! I ordered my new cell phone yesterday...it gets here TODAY! Actually this morning....I couldnt believe it. So I get home from work at 4:45 and try to make it work...yeah--I guess I get to wait for DH to get home! It didnt come with an owners' manual; it came with a CD. I thought that was cool, put it in my computer and cant get it to play. Try to register the thing and it keeps telling me I have the wrong serial number. I just got new glasses yesterday-they are clean-the number I typed in is RIGHT &*$#)@^~!!!! So I forgo the registration. Try to make a call and it tells me emergency calls only...it is going to be an emergency in a minute!

I am going to be passed out on the floor from hitting my head on the wall! *sigh*

Raiquee I wouldnt worry about those ducklings too much...Frankie's other babies are alone now too--she is on ANOTHER nest! Maybe they will come home to you at night? Keep the other baby out where they can hear him and I bet they will come back.

I heard that report on the news on the way home too (about the dog) I always wonder why kids that small are left alone with dogs (no matter what their history) at all? Four is way too young to read signs that a dog has had enough!

OK I am going out to the van to get stuff ready for the 4H meeting tonight. Guess that is all I can do. One good thing though...I scored 8 nice windows with screens (the old fashioned kind) out of the trash today! They will be the windows in my new chicken coop! At least I can figure out how to work a hammer and a screwdriver!

Have a great night! TErri O

(PS) DrH we have BL4 to thank for her knowledge of that particular spider!

I started today too.

You know, thecochincoop had some Crested Cochin Project birds for sale a few weeks ago...just breed those to some Frizzled Cochins or Frizzled Polish.....don't get my imagination started!

Good Evening To Everyone... busy doing juice... i suppose we go to extreme for what most folks would think is simple juice....lots of goodies with the time to fester, and then goody stuff. Me and Suzie worked hard to make nothing but goody stuff today. I'm blessed with cookin brats, and venzun weiners on the grill....oh no I suppose i have to try the new relish... Is this Heaven.
ya.gif
Prolly not, but happiness fits ok... Doc , on the seed list for sure. They are a happy variety.

Hope everyone keeps life on your side...can be a struggle for sure at times. Glad it's not all the time, eh!

Nothing but the best for all... ~ bigzio

BL4) I am in clinical Chemistry, Advanced Micro, Clinical Micro, Advanced Hematology, and then get set out for clinicals. I'm not worried about chemicals in the least, I'm worried because we work with infectious disease! Syphillis, Staph, Strep, E. Coli, Salmonella, HIV, Herpes simplex virus...just to name a few
wink.png
Not your "typical" college courses, as I am in my final semester. We handle blood specimens as well as draw blood in class, as well as CSF, urine, stool, etc. So we are constantly exposed to possibly infectious body fluids. We normally wear lab coats, gloves and goggles...however I may need to wear double gloves, face mask/face sheild. And who knows what the hospitals guidelines for working in the lab are with pregnancy. I don't want to screw this up, I need to land this job in March, a baby can always wait
wink.png
Plus, I don't know how much I'd be able to hold back the nausea in these classes....doing a fecal float just doesn't seem like it will be easy being non-pregnant!

Ducks are still in the pond across the road. A big tree had fallen in the pond, and they are huddling up in the tree. DH is preparing a "duck team". He's gonna get two people in two canoes, and a few people on land. Hopefully we can corner them and net them and have this terrible situation over with
sad.png
We lost the littlest duck last night, so I have a very lonely duck in my bin
sad.png
I am desperate to get his brothers/sisters back. Hes lonely, but has taken a liking to talking to me. If we don't get em by Saturday we should be picking up a few more scovies, (for the sake of hopefully getting a drake out of it to diversify the group) So he will have baby buddies then, but I really do hope to get the others back.

Alright, off to print off millions of slides of cells to indentification

Just follow Universal precautions and you will be fine. They use attenuated Bac and Viruses for labs. The last thing the school needs is the whole class getting sick! Where are you taking classes anyway? Are you going for RN, Medical Laboratory Technician, or Medical Technologist?

The fair was ok. Once again the birds did not have their breeds on their tags, only on the ribbons that were awarded. The pair of White Calls won a trophy, the kids think ours can beat them of course.
wink.png
It was nice to see some variation in the breeds of some of the animals. Somebody brought in some Jacobsen sheep, and of course the Normandy cows were back in force!

I told my kids if we EVER get a farm they can show Scottish Highlanders and Dexter cattle...... something different.

Off to grab a glass of wine and relax with the DH. Night!!!

My little sisters wanted to enter the Calls this year.
smile.png
They actually could have won some ribbons - besides the gorgeous pair of Black Tailed White Japanese Bantams that won Overall Champion and Reserve Champion, competition at the Juneau County fair is...pretty pathetic - less than 20 birds total. I saw the Japanese Bantams, one Frizzled Cochin, two Blue Cochin roosters, a bunch of Rhode Island Reds, a Barred Rock, a Blue Laced Red Wyandotte, a Light Brahma, and a few Turkens. I had those Japanese pegged as the trophy winners right from the start.
smile.png
The only ducks entered this year were Pekins (one of them had a creepy extra growth on the side of his bill!) and a Crested Cayuga, and the Cayuga wasn't even being shown, he was just a cage companion for an African Goose.
roll.png

I always wanted Scottish Highlanders too - until I saw one in person and realized how BIG they are....I mean, I knew all cows get HUGE, but those Scottish Highlanders look so cute in pictures!
tongue.png
Those Babydoll Southdown Sheep - those are a more manageable size for me! I NEED some of those!
lol.png

Anyways, I'm going to get another pair of White Calls on Sunday, from the Lund Family.
wee.gif

My 11-year-old sister wants her own White Calls to show as a Junior in the spring, and I'm not letting her show my really nice ones from duckluck - those are MINE.
big_smile.png
It just so happened the Lunds have a pair that they can spare right now, so I can't wait to go see them on Sunday!

My lonely duckling in the brooder is sitting in the corner against the mirror. I keep trying to show him how to eat and drink, and he'll take a drink of water, and then run back to the mirror!
barnie.gif
I'm going to start worrying if he doesn't show an interest in food by tomorrow. He just wants to be held, and he likes to scramble up onto my shoulders to be near my face. He's completely imprinted, which I hate. It's not natural. I want him to live happily with other ducks someday. The last thing I need is a clingy house-duck in diapers!
roll.png

Anyways, busy busy busy!

Good morning Everyone!!!! Saw the dog thing on the news too. A 4 year old ALONE with a big dog? Think there ought to be charges!!!!! Raiquee hope you get your duckies home! Bigz thanks for me making the list but like I said don't cut yourself short. I'm letting the cilantro seed out too plus whatever I can get from the other plants. Figure it would be a good early spring project for that getting itchy time of year. Dumped that jar of relish took the ring off and it wasn't sealed. Not enough head space. So after I fill the bait shop lady's order will make some more. And some more banana peppers. The BFF's carrots were rotten, too much moisture in his growing boxes so he'll get as many as he needs and we get his overflow of maters. Things have a way of balancing out. Heading out to finish organizing the downstairs in the garage today. Been putting it off long enough. If I can get that done then it's going to be back to the woods for next years heating material. It'll be nice to have a head start for a change. Might get a chance to go fishin next year.

Annarie, there is a mini Highlander out there. I hate how big they have bred cows, Holstiens look disgusting to me. I prefer nice little cows (like those Normandys...).

I hope Tyler jumps on here and puts his 2 cents worth in about the poultry barn at this fair.... At least the birds are in much better accomodations than they were 5 years ago! I still felt badly for the runners, they were just a hair too tall for their cages so they were a little bit stooped when they would stand all the way up.

Dr.H, I have 5 jars of pickles ready to blow their tops...... I guess I will HAVE to start dipping them into the boiling water bath for 5 min when I make them, just for insurance purposes. I use an icebox recipe that does not call for processing at all, but I guess I will have to start. They won't be as crispy though.......

Good morning and
welcome-byc.gif
everyone who is new! Working on paperwork today-finished up the unit that I had to get ready and now just waiting for the next 3 to come open this next week
th.gif

Of course DD will be finishing up her 4-H record/project book today. We'll be sending in the entry form for the show in Portage today, DD and DS(8) will be showing 3 birds each. Annarie good luck to your sister and the contest she entered!

Probably work on cutting up some more zucchini to freeze.

Good morning! Still participating in phone wars...and now DH "fixed" my computer and got rid of all my nice shortcuts on top of my page!
somad.gif
He always thinks he is "doing me a favor" and then it takes a year to find them all and get them back. He hated Firefox and that is what I use so I guess he is threatened by anything different...at least I have the phone manual on here now...but of course it doesnt work like they said it would...
hu.gif

I am off to work to cook at the Pines today...my own recipes! So I gotta go out in the garden and get the fresh stuff I need--Talk to you all later--have a fantastic day! Terri O

(PS) Raiquee--good luck on the duck ambush!
