Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

X 7!!!! Ugh- the smell and dust. Ick!!!!

Yep on the smell!!! Dust not so bad with only three babies but they just hit 4 wks and their poop now stinks!!!:sick. Can't wait for their new digs in the coop to be finished and the weather to finally break so they can move out!!!
Talking wet, cold, and maybe that 4 letter word this weekend then a fast warm up. They will be a full 5 weeks old then so out they go!

I forgot to tell you guys about my children's hatch project at school. I put in 7 heritage a Rhode Island Reds. I had 1 quitter and 6 hatched!!! Wow, I'm as good as CC with the brines a mini in charge. I am going to save my Ronnie's for a genesis. I'm a failure with my current incubators. Whatever. I'm watching a bunch of eggs sit right now, probably not going to hatch. Oh well, not the end of the world. At least the kids learn that not all eggs will hatch. They are also learning that nature isn't as easy to replicate as one would think.

I had a dead chick this morning too. It was a brand new baby, so who knows what happened. A coronation Sussex or a faverolle. They look the same right now.

I better go check on the incubator and do lunch.

How many toes did the chick that died have? The faverolles have an extra toe.

Hi all
I been off the board a while , raising 3 chickens still . They seem to be going pretty good , though I never seen a creature poop so much when they're suppose to be sleeping. I ran in to an issue. I have 2 barred rocks and an austrolorp. The austrolorp seem to be the leader up until 2 weeks ago. The 2 barred rocks have taken to pecking the head of the austrolorp. I seperated the 2 from the austrolorp for the night, but soon as I re-introduced them , right to picking on her head, She has lost quite a few feathers. I know their re-establishing a pecking order. I thought of spliting the 2 barred rocks and introducing them to the austrolorp one at a time. Not sure, I may just eat the Austrolorp

if this doesn't straighten out.

Thanks

This might work, shake up their pecking order a bit.

Psycho, I prefer straight-run only hatcheries only because most of the male chicks at hatcheries that sex them get either put into plastic bags or grinders.

We just eat the extra roos when they get big enough. Judge, you can butcher whenever you think the bird will be a decent meal. I have a couple that are 8-9 months old due for the freezer any day I decide to call my butcherer.

Our internet was down for 2 days, finally figured out it was the firewall that was blocking access. Something must have gotten switched around. Glad to be back, though I did get my garden tilled and laundry folded and floors washed and carpets vacuumed.......

O K then since it seems most of you fork tongued chicken chasers r out gettin a little super I ve got a question or two... At the bash,,,, do you all do a little singing? I know there is a guitar or two... Do they take requests... I am an EAGLES fan or maybe a little JAMES TAYLOR.. and if I get just the right amount of liquid courage in me a like to do a little singing.... But i dont like to sing alone>>>> I m a little shy.. Not as shy as ... Bigfam or CC but I m a little on the quiet side... till I get warmed up.... I have met a few of you and and you all r very nice!!!! If that's any reflection on the rest of you,,,, I cant wait to meet the rest of you... all of you and your families.. Just one more thing,, I wanted to share a nice offer made by one of the regulars.. About 2 wks ago I told of several of my adult birds missing,,gone vanished without a trace... sad I know.. But shortly after that, one of you P M ed me to offer your condolences and to offer giving up several of there birds so I could have fresh eggs for my family.. This kind of genuine generosity is not very common and greatly appreciated.. this is truly a great group. And I feel very fortunate to have been welcomed as part of it.....Hope you all have had a great day and wish you all a better tomorrow. Be well and be kind

Hi all--the kids just left...BEFORE they got dinner. That's OK though, their pseudo Dad is making hamburgers on the grill...they really wanted brats and bacon though....I am making German style Sauerkraut with Bratwurst and bacon, onion potatoes. It looks like a pretty good recipe. It came up when I did a search on Just a Pinch.

In case you want to check it out.

So now I am just here by myself...DH was in Green Bay and now says he will be home late. Thinking I will get the food prepped tonight and make it for tomorrow's supper. I will steal half of a brat and make myself some scrambled eggs and sausage since I dont have to feed anyone else! Then I might just head to bed...working in Oconomowoc early again tomorrow and the kids again after lunch until 11. I think it will be a very long day if we cant get outside!

I didnt find my other tortoise anywhere in the pen even after checking it all out 3 times! I am afraid he made an escape. DD is saying that I am a poor tort owner cause I have had a few get out...I just cant see keeping them in the house all year...even under the ultra expensive lights I have...they are so unhappy inside! I will continue to look...maybe he wont get too far with the weather being so much cooler. Somebody posted some cute sweaters in really bright colors to put on them...I wish he had one on...then I might be able to see him in the alfalfa field where they always go.

The BObs were due to hatch today but I have not seen anything going on in there...maybe tomorrow? I really want them to get done or the ones I am hatching for Lmiller wont be ready by the bash! I dont really want to bring a loaded incubator along in the truck! LOL!

I think I will put on my rain gear and head out to feed the birds and others before it gets dark. Only the ducks have really enjoyed it out there today!
Have a great night everyone! Only a few short weeks until we are all together for another weekend!. ...oh yeah Zeke--I dont know if you can really say we sing...we TRY to sing is as far as I will go on that one. It did sound pretty good though...I dont think I was too far under the influence!
