Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Rainy Day To Everyone....sounds like we will be in the chill for a few days.

Nothing new here. I was a bout to move some small trees when the rain started. So prolly tomorrow if the wind isn't real nasty.

We usually butcher the extra roo's anytime after 18 to 24 weeks or so. I always have LF so they are usually large enough by then.

I figured the crappies should be biting good right now. Hope I can get after some white bass. The boat trailer needs new tires first..another $100 prolly with the rims. The present ones are really old and flat.. LOL!

Have Fun... bigz
Crappies are my favorite fish next to Zawi.

Del-what time is she coming out? I took tomorrow off and will be out in the Kenosha area around 9 to stop in at the docs office. I won't have too much time, but could stop by a sec to say hi!

And get some eggs????

Otherwise, I forget who asked about tagging, but I just recently started tagging to identify my birds as they grew. For me, the primary purpose was not to track color because I'm not breeding, but it would serve those of you that do breed very well. I use it to track breeder/person that I got the chicks from and each individual bird from each person. For instance, all of the black orps that I got from Deli have a yellow tag on their left leg and then on their right leg the 3 birds have either a green, red, or black tag. The wyandottes and ameraucanas (5 total) only have tags on their right legs (red, green, black, yellow, and clear) which indicates that I received them via Deli, but from an outside breeder. My lav orps are not tagged as I think I have 4 roos out of 6 birds and there is no need to tag them unless I identify health issues because I'll be selling/trading/culling them. The lav pullets, once identified, will get a tags on their left leg. Left indicating they are from CC.

We are still progressing toward purchasing our house. We sent in our mortgage application, have received the land survey, expect to have the septic inspected early next week, and hopefully hear when our appraisal will be. Additionally, my dad put his house on the market, as he is moving in with us, and has a binding contract already. They are now going through the same process as we are-getting approvals, appraisals, etc. We are hoping to close by the end of this month and my dad hopes to close mid-July.

Big news on the work front.....a student had an allergic reaction, I found out for her specific situation that we have no protocol to handle it and I took it all the way up to the president. All of the people that should have developed protocol but didn't have been identified and corrections are underway. The president sent a very nice letter back to me, thanking me for revealing this situation to him because no one else had informed him (what?), he was pleased that I bothered to step out and address this, thanked me for pushing the front, and commended me on how I handled the emergency! Wouldn't it be nice if this story ended with a raise or promotion?

Ok, I'm gonna snag a cookie and get some milk. BBL...maybe.
She is not coming until late..after 5. I might have a dozen eggs for you since you did such a great job at work! I sure hope you receive a promotion and a raise! Give me a call and let me know if you are coming. I might be tilling the garden. I have to get it planted. The one tilling was not so good.
BTW..what is the sex of your Ameracuana's?

I am glad your closing is going along..it is a long process.

Lisa, just wanted to let you know I candled the Langshans tonight, only pulled out one clear. I also have the GNH in lockdown, one is out and 5 more pipped. Go babies go!!

To tell you the truth, I'm not positive on the ameracuanas, but i think they might both be pullets (no waddles or combs yet). I'll have to look at some pics of male vs. female ameras. It is hard for me to tell as their bodies are different from what I am used to, but whatever they are, they are not different from one another except in coloration. The batch of ameras and dotties have imprinted on me AND I love it!!!!

Thanks for the insight to both of you

Ams are tough to tell. Those pea combs are tricky and they look more like birds of prey than chickens as teenagers.

Just popped in to say hello! The coffee soap looks great! Of course I have been WAY too busy to make more, I will try to make a batch tomorrow night.....

BigZ, DH would like to know what is wrong with your 8N......

Congrats on all the hatches! I think the hatch at school is DOA...... I did not have much hope for them..... the teacher is going to toss the eggs after tomorrow.

That's about it, I am ready to pass out so catch you all later!

Beautiful chicks delisha! I have one silver and its hubbys favorite. I may have to get more.

Ameracuana's do not have wattles (I just learned that myself) If they have color in the comb they are male.

Pullet

Del-is it ok that I come over after the docs office? I plan to get there around 9am, so I might get to you 9:30-10am. Will that work? Its too bad that I'll miss Mel.
I will be here with bells on.

If it were still cold out, I'd guess she lost a battle with the ice in her yard.

DrH, love that movie!

Psycho, cute pups!

Amy, amazing the stuff you can get done when you don't have internet access, hey?

Aw, Terri, I hope you find your tort! Poor guy.

Congrats on the hatch, Heather. The Brins are definately a good bator for low maintenance hatching. IMHO. I had a 6/7 hatch too. And I finally found out which hen keeps laying those long, skinny torpedo eggs. Hershey, my biggest, widest hen!

Never would have guessed that one.

I did manage to get a saddle on her & 3 other girls. Too bad 2 of the 3 gals who need them the worst are too hard to catch.I did get one on one of the worst ones but she was not a happy camper. Now I just need to get some pics. I was going to comment more but CRS strikes again. Sweet dreams, all! And thanks for sharing that story, Zeke. I agree there are lots of good folks here.
