I never trimmed a chicken toe.. somebody else will have to field that one..

you mentioned something about egg bound chicken,, I wouldn't worry about that.. until I came onto byc, I never heard of a case of it.. plus a lot of other ailments .. too many people jump to the wrong diagnosis and can cause more harm than help.. projected hypercondria .. (sp)
just remember, not very many of us are vets,, so we should not be "doctoring" so much.. especially surgical things..

PP, go ahead and trim nails if it looks like they're causing a problem. I'd go slow so as not to catch the quick. Roos get spurs around a year. The light breed hens can also get spurs; I have 3yr old Polish hens with spurs. I wouldn't worry about the hen that hasn't laid yet. It may take her several weeks to adjust. Sometimes they stop laying for no reason ( I have a bunch of slackers here at the moment.)

Well, we decided to not go down to Baraboo with BL4 for Vernon's trial. I would have had to bring both kiddos as DH wouldn't be here to pick up the oldest from school. Will be watching very closely however!

Yeah, I'm going to have to take a better look at their feet. But I want to give them some time to adjust and get used to us all and us handling them and such.

What's Vernon's trial? "Watching closely"? Hmm...what's going on? Is everything alright?

Psyco.... what breed is that hen that's not laying? Some breed only lay maybe a 100 eggs a year. She also may be younger than you think and just not ready. Or a roo in disguise! LOL

bl4.... Nice post on the raw milk. It's just another way the gov. wants to control our food and our lives!

Casie.... Sorry to see you give up the birds.... but I think we all understand. Sometimes something just has to give in your life and family comes first. Maybe when the kids are older. I would love some of those racks but wouldn't be able to pay for the until next month. Then there's the gas to go get them.

Delish..... One of the chicks I got from you is getting that weird wing feather thing going on (I'll try to get a pic) It's kind cool. Of course I worried and started looking for info. Several people I found have/had BLRW with that and they grow out of it. I was wondering if any more of that batch (or yours) have it.

Storky really wants to take her kids out of that brooder! I'd like to set up a pen for her but am running out of safe room.

Was hauling wood from Donny's yesterday and it started to sprinkle, I loaded faster but not fast enough. got soaked in seconds and it looked like it was going to keep pouring. Got in the Jeep and by the time I got in my drive 1/4 mile away it quit.

Going to shorten up a big pile of long pieces and get those in the shed and hopefully get the rest of the pile moved today. Better get going.
