Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

More strange chicken news. I must have shut the garage door this morning with out realizing my bantam cochin rooster and my bantam faverolles hen were in there. I come home today to find them in the stock tank that my chicks are being brooded in! My first thought was oh great, I wonder how many they killed. None. They were just hanging out with them in there. That goofy rooster also sits with that hen when she lays eggs. I have a picture of them together in my rabbits timothy hay bag the other day.

ok those "wiser" than I. Without all of you, I am sure my little flock of 8 ( now 30).. enablers! ~~would have never gotten as far as we have.
A little older and a little wiser, there are many things I wish I had done differently, but o'well. it all worked out.

In a couple weeks I am going to try to integrate my older hens in with my chicks (about 9 weeks at that time) . There won't be a place to feed them separately. Although there is a small spot under the nests that only the chicks will be able to reach, I will keep putting their feed there. So feed. What is recommended. Right now the hens get layer crumbles and the chicks get grower. What is All Flock? and is this a route to go? as long as they have some grit? I know the excess calcium isn't the best for the chicks...I would assume grower is fine for the hens, but they might not lay as well.........not sure about this one.
What does everyone suggest?
Thanks everyone!

Good day today, my outta town and state relatives are in a time share in the dells this week, so yesterday AM I visted w/them for a few hrs and today Ipulled the kids out of school and we left at 8 and just came back at 2. Really enjoyed ourselves. But now I'm heading to work and leaving the kids w/a small cleaning list to get tackled so we have more stuff done before our Memorial Day party on Sunday. I've already started my shopping list to pick up Friday morning so I can do the rest of the cooking on Sat. and just stick it in the fridge. I'm gonna make my infamous homemade sweet n sour meatballs and put a pkg of cocktail wienies in the crockpot w/them, too. YUMZ!!

I've already got some money set aside for next wknd, so if I agreed to get chickens from you, will you please PM me. I can't remember who all I was talking to and I want to confirm my mental list, what I'm getting, how many, from whom, and how much money to bring.

Terri - we haven't purchased any ducks, geese, or turkey's yet. I'm trying to go slow and only buy a few things here and there and not go crazy. What kind of turkey's do you have? My kids like the blacks and all of us like the royal palms. I'm just talking a couple. Like a breeding pair or maybe 2 breeding pairs and that's it.

And....I realize that Psychodelic Peepazoid is a lot to spell out, but please don't call me pp for short!

I was just thinking ; it is quiet on here, for a rainy day..

Annie just called me into her laundry room.. there is a 3 ft long pine snake in there.. hey, I am not the one to be calling for snake problems.. I think he sneaked behind the freezer.. My solution ? stuff a towel under the door so he has to stay in her room.. I don't need for a snake to come slithering under my chair..

that room is a virtual zoo.. a few days ago there was a baby red squirrel in there.. I have a small live trap set for him.. Prolly will catch the snake instead.. maybe the snake will catch the squirrel ?

I thought it would stop raining long enough to work a bit at the green house.. no such luck..

Marlene called.. This weekend she will be bringing me a few dozen guinea eggs to hatch for her ..

DD#2 did buy breakfast..

Happy Birthday Heather!

I have the garden done just in time for all of this soft on and off rain. My corn is up and so are some of the beans. The strawberries are looking pretty good too. I have blooms all over. I have lost quite a few of the strawberries, but I think most made it.

Terri, I think if you bring turkeys to the Bash you will not go home with them.

Psycho, gotcha.

You'd really rather go by Psycho?? OK.

Dan, had bad root maggots here a couple years ago when I tried to plant in a wet and cool spring. Will not do that again. The only things planted so far are greens, peas, beets, parsnips and carrots. Hot toddy sounds great, I will have to settle for hot cocoa.

My flock has dropped in egg production by about a third in the last 7-10 days (a couple are broody, but not that many.) Anyone else notice this?

Hey guys! Busy day chaperoning the zoo trip with the 5k today. But very fun :)
The egg here is pipped!!!! Very late. We thought it was done. Just left it in as a maybe... the pip is in the middle of the egg. Is that normal? Its rockin and rollin. I can see the little piece of shell move. Its hard to. Im leaving it alone. Just staring...
Since its so late, should I have concerns? Just keep leaving it? Any advice would be appreciated. Its our only egg!!
