OMG! Why would you SAY such a thing!! {{{SOBS}}}

RB, Budgies like to chew on Eucalyptus in the wild, and since there are anti-microbial properties of the plant/oils it is a good thing for them to have once in a while to keep them healthy. They like to rub the oils all around their ceres and around their faces. I just busted up a fight between two of them...... dumb birds, they were perfectly fine yesterday. Mamma has not gone into the nest box yet, she should be laying another egg today or tomorrow (they lay every other day) and she should really be sitting on them....... Scratch that, she is in there right now! Daddy is sitting on top of the box like an anxious parent. Now if I can only keep them from fighting..... I hope I do not come home to a dead bird.

If anyone is interested, here is a great article explaining in detail about that holding order from the Milk Trial.

Off to the UW..... enjoy the rain!

Well, that one Amerecauna has still not layed an egg, yet. My pink egger has only missed 2 of 10 days, the naughty one has missed 3? no more than 4 days, another one has prob. only layed 5 or 6 eggs, and the last one has layed 0 eggs. Not sure how long to hold out before we make the decision if it's worth hanging on to her and for how much longer. DD16 says to put her into the stew pot for this wknd at chickenstock. I say we give her more time. Like another week or two.

My oldest batch of babies was "supposed to" go outside yesterday, but we were so busy w/other outdoor work, gardening, pulling weeds along the house and flower bed areas and coming in from the rain that it never happened. So I'm doing that this morning while everyone's at work/school. I'll be putting them into a bigger enclosure in my garage until they get bigger. But IDK how worried I should be about those outside cats I picked up at the swap 1 1/2 wks ago. 2 are kittens who shold be 9-11 wks old right now and I'm saying there's NO friggin way! I'm thinking 5-6 wks b/c they're teeny fluffs w/leg buds sticking out! People lie about their animals ages all the time just to get rid of them, and technically it IS against WI state law to get rid of a puppy, kitten, bunny, et all if they're less than 8 wks old unless they go w/their mother. Anywho - I'm not too worried about THEM, it's the older one who hunts. The lady said she's used to all her chickens and seems to know the difference between your pet chickens vs birds that are 'wild' that you can go after and eat. But I'm still a little nervous about putting them out there because if she DOES go after them and kill them, I'm going to be really mad and upset, as will the kids. My husband says to put them in one of our rabbit brood cages for now. That way they are fully enclosed and safe (unless the cat sticks her arm in and tries to claw at one). He said that if they're coming from a plastic tote in my laundry room, that a 30x36 rabbit cage will feel like heaven and they'll have MORE than plenty of room to move around compared to what they've had and they'll be just fine. Plus safe from the cat since I'm so worried. IDK. I guess that makes sense. Because if one flies out of the other enclosure adn is walking around on the garage floor, she's more likely to go after them. So I gues sit makes sense. (we kept the cats in the garage for the first few days to kill all the mice and to get used to us and their new home. Now we leave the side door opena nd they roam in/out all day and come supper chore time we round them up and put them back in the garage overnight so the baby kittens don't become easy prey.)

"No one on here seemed to know if Alfalfa was really toxic to poultry or not so off to do some research. Will post ffindings if anyone is interested."

vickie I missed this if you asked, Alfalfa is really a good addition to the diet of poultry, I supplement in the winter with it and also add some soaked cubes to my FF. Doing the research I'm sure you will find the many benefits, alfalfa meal is also good for gardens called the "poor man's" kelp meal, a certain amount of N-P-K and lots of trace minerals, magical stimulant if you will

misting in the north with possible rain today, hoping to get some planting done again to take advantage of it

the transplanted raspberries have taken off, green leaves showing on the Lathams buds showing on the Yellow variety

bbl if it rains

Just so you know..not all chickens lay every day. It is perfectly normal for some breeds to lay 2 or 3 eggs a week. You just got these chickens. Most chickens go threw a stale period when they are moved to a new coop. They do not like change. Just adding a chicken, lack of the same fresh air, lack of sunlight, lack of the same exercises, lack of the same outdoor coop or dimensions, can cause many chickens to go into stress mode. I think that you are getting eggs is more unusual than not getting eggs.

I also add alfalfa cubes sometimes during the winter to my FF.

Well took the babies outa the incubator this am, I have 18 chicks of 22, 4 are no pips thinking they are dead, or clears that I missed, but will leave them until tomorrow morning and see if anything happens. I bought a candler off ebay and it totally sucks, I did better with my flash light.! I could not see inside almost all the eggs set, which were colored blues, and few browns. Very cute Little fluff butts with my EE's I think they are the cutest chicks......lotts of blue/yellows in this batch, a few wild type with the chipmunk stripes, and 1 solid black.....
I will post pictures of them later, as soon as my son gets up so I can get my camera back.........ggggggrrrrrrrrrr I hate it when he borrows my stuff and it never gets put back in its spot
So thats it for now I guess, still haven't found any hay close nearest is peshtigo, and 6 bucks a bale for 40 lbs........ They have all lost there friggen mind.............Kim

Well...just got my two week notice for my job. I have known since February it was coming... still sucks but I am so not ready to go full time yet with my babies so young.
Rough day!

Oh. Well I guess I'm just going by what I heard as far as most people are saying that Amerecaunas are daily layers. So skipping a day once in awhile I thought maybe wasn't a big deal at all, but for a "daily layer" to go 10 days (today's day 11 and nothing yet, but it's still early) I thought would be a sign that she's too old, going broody, or that somthing's wrong? IDK.

Happy Tuesday! Hope everyone had a great long weekend! Sounds like lots of gardening was done! It was chilly here and rainy. Not as rainy as it is going to be though! Really, you would think we live in Seattle or something!
My Garden survived the frost. I pretty much covered everything besides the brocc, cauli and Brussels. Tips of the tomatoes look a little light, but they will live (all 22 of them) LOL `` big family, bigger garden! Besides my life would not be complete without torturing my children with the weeding of the garden... I would sssoo miss the crabby faces, rolling of the eyes and big heavy sighs with the slumping of the shoulders

The little peeps seem to be happy in their coop and getting more friendly each day. I made a little run for them while the big pen is in progress; the labs think they look quite delish

.. they are fine with the older hens, but the little peeps seem to be a lovely snack size! Gonna brave up and try to get them together this weekend.... kind of nervous...I will feel terrible if anything happens. One of my favorite gray feathered chicks made some attempts at crowing this morning <sigh> I had a "feeling" he was a roo, but I was really holding out that I was wrong!

He is so pretty....

any suggestions on putting them together to ease my mind ??!! Older ones will be put next to them for most of the week before they all become one big happy family!!

Welcome back Colton!
