Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I will never raise cornish rocks again! This is my first year (I usually do freedom rangers). They are about 4 weeks old and one is already unable to stand. They are all pullets, I thought for some reason I would be safe getting those. I hate their legs and how they lumber around. I only got them because the poultry processor won't cut up any other breed. And I don't always want to cook a whole chicken. I really wish I wouldn't have got they'll now. I hope the ready make it till the butcher date. I still don't know what to do with the lame one. I seriously almost left it out for the coyotes, but felt bad and put it in the coop

They are hard to deal with unless they are forced to find food. I do not mind raising them or breeding them. They take work if you do not want them to eat themselves to death. This is my last year raising them for food. I will be butchering out my last old girl. She is 4 and I have found they age so fast once they hit that mark and age quickly. She is broody now and I think I might just butcher her out now instead of putting her threw the stress of another brood.

You might have to brave up and butcher out your chicken

I never did try the apple pie shots. But if that was part of the wine tasting, it's no wonder. I never even knew it was going on in the first place. I was really looking foward to that. Even brought a nice bottle of Pinot Noir to share. Oh, well. :(

Regarding the raffle, I didn't partake in that, either. I would've been there beforehand if I knew when you guys were doing it, but there was never anything mentioned as far as a timeline of when things may take place. If I knew it was going to be at 1, I would've been there by 12. I would've gladly purchased tickets and I did indeed bring something to add to the table.

I also had no idea that we could take home some of the paperplates & napkins. My daughter said something about it this morning and then now I'm reading about it on here that people took some home.

Aww....sniff, sniff....I feel all left out, now...!

Well, I came home and went out to check on the chickens and found my black frizzle bantam cochin dead. It looked like she may have been trampled/stomped? She's so tiny and wasn't growing much and all the other ones she's in with are at LEAST 3 times bigger than her, if not 5 times. Now I'm worried about the 2nd smallest...my kindergardeners silkie! I'm wondering if I should take it out and put her in w/the younger batch. But then SHE'D be the huge one, so IDK what to do.

Psypeep, sometimes chickens just die, and then the others walk on them,, makes it look like they were trampled to death,,
timeline ? what's that ? the cheeseheads at the bash are just together, not organized..
next year you will do better..

No, I did not sell all of the BO's . I must have 50 or 60 left..

everybody,, send your dead chickens to JJ..

Psycho... Why do I not look like my profile pic? You look nothing like yours btw...

My ducks I ordered from Holderreads were shipped out today! How wonderful!!! I know my hubby will be p.o.'d, so I better get the duckling broody area set up on my own and soon! Anyone have some awesome ideas on a good set up to brood 10 ducklings???

Oh and Zeke... Jimbo was not praying for me to go away in that picture! ! How dare you sir?! He was praying for the Pervy Humor meeting to start, and its leader to come over. But I was already there!!! :D

Ps: since this Bash was so big, I might make the South Central Mini Bash invite only. If I take it on again... :P

Hi All! I was so wiped out when we got home I couldn't even read the posts! I was asleep by 2:30!!! Paul may not have socialized allot but he loved catching up on his sleep and decompressing! He said he slept real good Sat. night in the car, even when it got cold. He needed that. Young son did the chores so-so, at least nothing died.

I pulled the Hen Turkey from her nest and cleaned up the area. She went to roost with the others. I feel sorry for her, she was out in the yard cooing and clicking like she was calling the babies.

Couple questions since i am ordering some soon. Where did you get them? Ive read that there are a few strains out there and some are heathier and have better mortality rates than others. What are you feeding them and what schedule? I was planning on going 12 hours on feed and twelve without and trying to get them to range a little. I have seen some nasty ones and I dont want mine looking like that or just sitting like nasty unhappy glutinous lumps of sparsly feathered yuck.

I butchered 30 this past Saturday.

I order my Cornish x from Sunnyside ( beaver dam ).

Have never had any with health issues.

I have experimented with feed options. Hands down fermented feed is the only way to go with the meaties.

I think I will be doing fermented feed for them now. They are from Sunnyside, and I think 3 are from welp. I have no idea which hatchery this one is from. I have them in with some freedom rangers and my extra orp, barnevelder and Cochin chicks. They get no food at night. But only because there's no light, the feeder is in the coop all the time. I feel bad restricting the diet of the other chickens. I think I may have to break down and get them a chicken tractor. They can have their own area that way. And the 400 lbs of poop they produce everyday won't be all over in the coop. Never again . . .
