Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I hear ya Vicki. I have a niece who is finding out the hard way the risk of being a vet & volunteering at a clinic ( I believe this was a County Humane Society ).
she caught one of the employees and manager stealing prescriptions & turned them in.
Even so.....she may lose her license & worse. Securing the medications and assuming you have the only key is not good enough.

she grew up helping out in clinics and HAD the innocent assumption the workers held the same beliefs.
With the reality of losing license & still having college & vet loans to pay off, this may be a very costly reality slap.
On the plus side...I believe she will listen a little more when her old bigoted uncles tell her the realities of current day America.

Deli You might feel left out if your buckeyes don't have extra toes

Has anyone ever taken a radiation detector to TO's house by chance?

wouldn't it be great if it was a way to sex them at birth? extra toes mean boy.

Quick post... As in NOT a Frenchie post...

Two of the eggs Deli gave me for Riga hatched! Riga is a momma!! A blue Orp and a black Orp with pale yellow under belly.

Off to the store!

Yeah for Riga!!!! Um...congrats on the roos??

Good evening! Kids just left...last day for me with the is next Friday...she says For sure...we will see. She was very upset and the kids kept asking me all day if I was going to miss them. I almost started up myself! It will be a sad day for sure...
SO am I reading this correctly? You are getting a little dog Yvette? Speaking of dogs...Frenchie, your new girl looks very similar to a client's dogs. They are white schnauzers. (OMG--I spelled that correctly without spell check!) That could very well be the cross with the poodle, and the cause of the longer nose. Very cute BTW! Congrats on your score...now you need to feed her. At least dog food doesnt go so fast with the little ones!

It was a good thing I went into the back room just now to do a photo session with the new chicks...their bulb had burned out and it was down to 88 in there! I guess that's probably room temp in here! Here they are:

I ended with 5; the black and the yellow on the ends are two that I popped in there to hatch from a nest in the barn. Might be an OE and a buckeye...I cant seem to remember which eggs I put under that hen! I need to carry a pencil and notepad in my pocket at all times I think! I do stuff on the spur of the moment and then of course CRS strikes!

Two are very yellow and the other 3 are more creamy, any correlation? Oh yeah, these are the Langshan eggs I got from Lisa.

Talk about adorable!!! And I just LOVE Their furry feet. Ky said they looked like yellow hairy spiders.

And then the session was rudely interrupted...

I HAD to get this sign at Shopko yesterday for the people....when I read it I laughed really loudly and people looked at me...I shoulda waved!
Of course I HAD to partake in the perennials clearance...do I have everything planted from the bash yet?

We had the biggest downpour while the kids were napping...now there are totally blue skies...I guess I better head out and get planting hey?
For those of you that are following the sweet potato saga they now have 4 leaves! How are yours doing Kristip, and how many did you start with?

Oh, One more thing (cause I cant have my post be that much shorter that Frenchie's...even though the story was QUOTED enough so I saw it 4 times! [and probably will see it 4 more]) When I fed the dogs tonight Liam was helping and I took a scoop of "prime cuts in gravy" out of a new can and asked him if he wanted a taste. He looked at me and said, "Terri, I dont eat DOG meat!" OMG I almost blew a gut laughing! I said it was beef and he said, "beef?" Too funny.

TerriOstillchucklingathisstatement!
FT-congrats and I agree with TO on the schnauzer combo in your poodle. I am still waiting for an update (story) on the medical gaga. How about Holly as a name for a dog from Hollywood?
TO- sorry to hear that the kiddos might be gone soon, but you'll have more time to work in your own garden now.

News from us- we got our first egg (from these chickens)!

I just knew that all of that commotion was a newbie getting close to pushing out her first egg, albeit a very small one! I stole it while they were out ranging and when the blk orps came back in, all 3 were looking for it! My last batch of chickens ALWAYS laid eggs in the nest box and could careless about the eggs after they laid them. These girls however I can tell already are going to be very territorial with their eggs

....and NO the egg layer did NOT lay in the box. Do I put the next egg in the box? The chicks that I still have from CC like to roost by themselves on top of the waterer...yuck. Any suggestions on how to break them of this? I tried putting a board on there, but they still slept there and I also go in and move them at night too. Any other ideas? Well, Vicki is coming here tomorrow to help determine gender in the 10 birds. I am wanting to cull my roos and although I was sure that I only had 2 roos, now I am debating the actual number that I have out there. Ugh, why can't they just be distinguishable like humans???? I am not patient enough to wait for the crowing and I don't have a Barn Cam like CC!

My mom has way too many bunnies right now. Here is a picture of one of her 6 week old red eyed white and agouti angora rabbits (40% German, 60% French). She a also has sable and black. The sable and black are 60% French, 40% German and have full pedigrees. If anyone knows of anybody looking for angora rabbits please let me know. I listed them on Craigslist tonight myself so that I can monitor how many responses she gets. I'm afraid she will not sell them otherwise.

TO-I haven't noticed any correlation (to sexes) between the yellow chicks and the very light chicks. Just different genetics popping through I guess. They look adorable!

JustJohn-I sure hope extra toes doesn't mean boys...

Del- If you don't get 5 toes than you are totally left out. We are developing the 5 toed buckeye and you want to get in on the ground floor of this gig.

I don't think a barn cam would help much in determining the sex of a juvie chick? Depending on the breed, the males usually will redden up faster in the comb and develop wattles earlier. But some breeds are tricky &/or will mature much later. My Dom crosses had quite a lot of us on here fooled for a long time. Almost until they laid an egg.
