Hello again,

We have our new coop divided into two halves with hardware cloth and chicken wire. The main flock of six are on one half with mom and chicks on the other. We haven't hung the nesting box in the side with mom and chicks yet (chicks are three weeks old). We plan to have it hung this week. I haven't seen any eggs in the corner where she and babies sleep - when does a broody start to lay again?

When she is done caring for them..

That is a long way to travel for a tri, but I did look in my area and there is one on Aug 11th (Pleasant Prairie-IronGirl). I'm thinking about doing that one. A half mile swim is 35 laps in a standard pool, the biking shouldn't be to bad, but the running would end up more like a slow walk!!! They do allow teams of 3, so maybe I can find others that are interested?

hi folks,

great day in the north country IF you can stay at home and avoid the crowd

lost 2 ducks to raccoons last night,,,now the gloves come off, these 2 have avoided the trap for weeks, time to use some "coonbegone" in the run

and OF course some of the folks I sales pitched the duck eggs to have decided they were hooked,,,,hopefully the birds will start laying again, went from 5-6 eggs a day to 0 today,,,,grrrrrr

Cisco Chain is a beautiful aquifer, let me know when you're in the area maybe we can have a cool beverage at Bent's Camp

off to do some cultivating the pigweed really grows well this year

Good afternoon! Kids are asleep...aaahhhhh! No actually it is a sad day because they are heading to Grandma's tomorrow I guess. She said that today was the end...bittersweet for sure but she said she was going to pay me...I am hoping she isnt lying!

Actually had to water the garden the other night. The sweet potatoes were drooping. THey are planted in long hills that dry out pretty quickly.

Not anything new here except for the fact that I was visited by a predator on Saturday night! It took the head and crop area of my broody with the babies! Of ocurse I just let her out the other day...the babies are fine; caught 3 of them and just couldnt get the 4th so it stayed out...I think that one is a buckeye. Today when I fed the barred rock slipped out! I am going to try and catch them tonight again. All other babies are doing well...those Langshan's are SO FLUFFY! I have noticed some pasty butt on a couple though. I think it is probably too warm in there for them.

DD is at horse camp this week...she is only going for 1/2 days because she is working afternoons. We went on a ride last night...she rode that fast pony! Commander didnt want to canter and I think the hay I bought last week has given him a light colic. He was very gassy and has been hiding in the barn or way up in the corner of the pasture by himself. I hope he is better soon!

Well, gotta wake up these kids (what a shame!) and go and pick up the other one from Daycare...and take my friend Judi to the store so she can make copies or something!

When she is done caring for them..

Ok - that's kind of what I thought. Well her nesting box will be there for when she is ready. It's just so facinating watching her interact with them. This week she decided it was time for them to "free range". She jumped/flew over the 4' plastic fencing we set up as a little extension from their designated run, then she scratched and squacked like crazy. We pulled the fence so babies could join and she promptly quieted down and they all got down to business. It so funny to watch mama and her busy, busy babies

Rod also built them a roost out of scrap 2x4's with about four risers on it. They just love it!!

I would love to "hook up" at Bent's. I'll be sure to let you know when it gets closer. I think I remember someone mentioning Sugar Camp once - we always stop at the little cafe for breakfast on the way home from the fishing trip - it would be fun to connect with that person too.

Rberry you're still kinda new here. But you should be warned that Unk has a pervy humor issue. So saying you want to "hook up" with him (male or female) could be taken the wrong way. Then the location name. Bent? Really? As in "get bent over" or was that a typo for Brent? I just needed to interject the rampant supposition of sexual connotation that is more easily attached in posts to and from Unk.

He needs to borrow Jim's shaft....

Dh had been feeling rather yucky the last few days, so he saw his doc today. I picked a Deer Tick off of him about two weeks ago and since he is complaining of symptoms similar to Lymes he has been put on antibiotics. We will know in a few days if the rapid screen is pos or not. If not I am going to push that they do the Western Blot; more expensive BUT much more accurate than the standard screen (the rapid screen catches 75% of cases, and has a 25% false neg rate). Will keep you posted.

And no Heather I did NOT get my jam made yet!
