Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

You will be busy picking that choke cherry tree. Have you tried to start another tree yet? Start one for me too...please.if you do...let me know how the black berries are doing. yummy.

I just made 4 8oz (jelly jar size) of chokecherry jam! I have a few berries set aside to plant. I am just gonna smush them and put on top of dirt and water. There is a bunch of berries left on that tree! My mulberries are magically disappearing

darn birds!

Erin, nice pics and wanted to answer your question - yes, chicks sleep all sprawled out on the floor. I bet they'll outgrow that brooder before they'll figure out the roost.

Thanks :) I kept checking to see if they were still breathing!
They love playing on the roost and stand on it for a few minutes, but they don't sleep on it yet.
They'll definitely be outgrowing this bin quickly.. better figure out where they'll go next LOL

thanks CC for the offer of wineows.. but I did not frame the walls for them specifically, so it is safe bet they won't fit,, I decided to order some UV resistant G H plastic for the roof.. and I have two large rolls of UV resistant vinyl for the sides.. I could post pictures, but nobody looks at them anyway..

Unka Dan, I have about half the chicks named so far.. but I hate to name them not knowing what sex they are for sure..

and Dan, looks like it is time to stake out a duck for bait and wait.. just don't miss..

I tried out my new used tiny tiller this afternoon.. It works really good, but does not dig real deep.. It is super for weeding between the rows, though.. and I can get pretty close to the plants.. I have to tinker with the depth control bar some more.. I tilled up all the unplanted area inside the G H today.. It took only a few minutes, and the tiller is not tiring to run..

tired tonight,, I want to get up early and work a little before it gets too hot out.. that is what I did this morning.. Annie set the alarm for 6:3o and went back to sleep , so I just started without her..

Guineas are an interesting addition to your farm or acreage. They have great personalities. Guineas are the farm yard watch dog, sounding the alarm whenever anything unusual occurs. They will consume large amounts of insects and seldom bother your garden or flowers. They are easy and inexpensive to raise. Once started, they fend for themselves, living on insects, seeds, and grasses. They control deer ticks, wood ticks, grasshoppers, box elder bugs, flies crickets, and all other insects. Their call will discourage rodents. They will kill snakes, and will alert you to anything unusual.

And you said you don't have time to go fishing? I look at your pics for inspiration. I don't click on each one to enlarge, but many I do.

BL4-- Bring your bug spray and your running shoes (all other clothing is optional as we can't be seen from the road), we have a half mile loop here with black caps around the outside. You could both train for races and gain weight.

here is an example of the age difference between the babies.. the little guinea keet is less than a week old,, the barock is about 4 weeks..

these birds are like relatives,, you cannot get them all together for a group picture,,

Thanks for posting about your pics Jim.

somehow I missed that whole page.

Glad I found it. To's video about backyard hens was funny too.

Cindlady- yes it is. Nothing worked as I had originally planned on it as I built it on a pallet and it wasn't 4 foot square. I wanted it to look like an old fashioned coop as I never see them anymore. Its a bit top heavy, daughter wants me to add a porch now too.

Jim...I love the pics... I may not comment every time, but love seeing everyone's pictures. Project time is keeping me busy as are those kids. Kids activities take up my mornings and then talking them into playing around the house so I can do some things outside. Rit now it is tackling my yards and yards of mulch onto freshly weeded flower beds. Got my small veggie garden well weeded, now need to get back into the big garden. Then it ill be on to painting. Sme inside but a bunch outside, from part of the coop, to my bee hive to my front porch. Today is a day of work!

Oh and Terri...I have three sweet potato plants left...ground hogs got the rest...sigh...

Morning everyone :frow
Happy Fourth of July:!!! (Insert fireworks here)

JIM - where did you order your GH roofing from?. Cost? Love your pics BTW.

Ok, next installment of "Days of Our Chicks". Waited last night till everyone was in the coop on their own then closed the popholes. Opened the big door to peek in and the poor babies were all right there wanting out :( Noodle stayed on the roost so I just closed the door, ignored the babies pleadings, and ran for the house. Out this morning by 5:30 to open the coop before anyone could get cranky. The poor babies were right where they were last night. I was afraid that whatever Noodle did would make them too scared to get back on their roost, sigh. Good news tho that when I opened the door this morning Noodle was out first, going right by the babies without a glance. The babies were last to leave so I was able to sneak them a nice treat they could enjoy without harassment.
Stay tuned for the next installment of "Days of Our Chicks" ;)

boy, everything sure is easier when broody mom does the raising!
