Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Yep, those choke cherries will pucker your whistler for sure.. but I like them anyhow..

many years back I bought Annie a pair of chain saw chaps.. she used them for pushing her way through the black berry patches.. worked like a charm, except they were too warm to wear for very long.. old army fatigue jackets are good upper body and arm protection..

I made a lot of blackberry jam a couple of years ago.. great stuff.. just remove the seeds and use all the rest of the pulp..

a little corn starch in the berry pie will thicken it just right..

people supposedly are on their way from Tomahawk to get some chicks.. I think they will actually show up..

JIM - Menards has some pretty decent poly roofing. That's what we used on roof of my starter greenhouse that is now my potting shed/workshop/chicken emergency room. If you look at one of my coop pictures, it's the little shack in front. Anyway, it's 10 years and counting on a five year roof. Been checking lately and they have even better stuff now. I wonder if they do special orders on it too.

All quiet on the chicken front. Even got to spend a little quality time with just the babies this afternoon.

Amy - great news about your friend!

thanks for the heads up.. but, I already checked out Menard's.. it would cost me about $500.oo to use their panels.. to much American $$$ just to extend my growing season a couple of weeks..

X2 Just don't try to eat choke cherries (also called serviceberries) off the tree, they have a strange dry-your-mouth-out quality when fresh. They make a very dark, rich jelly.

So the scoop on Julie so far is the latest MRI showed the tumor is 2cm and confined in a duct, and hasn't spread to the surrounding tissue or nodes. At this point she is looking at a lumpectomy plus radiation. In 2 weeks when the genetics test results are in the doc will know more. But good news thus far!

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!
my service berries are sweeter than my mulberries. I also have choke cherries all over in my woods. service berries may not be choke cherries IMHO

Wow Jim, guess I didn't pay attention to how big your greenhouse is.

Geez the threads move quick in this forum!

I need some advice...our chicks are about 9 1/2 weeks now and we're pretty certain one of our Amercuanas is a rooster. How do you find homes for roosters? The Northern Wisconsin State Fair is coming up soon - could that be an opportunity?

I find that roosters fit really well in a one gallon zip lock freezer bag

Rooster: free on Craigslist. Cull them while they're young. Or grow them out for food.

Shadow KILLED my absolute favorite teenager chick Sally today. I'm so sad. She was my first chicken to come up to me to be petted. I could pick her up, give her pats. I didn't do anything to tame her. She just came out that way. That f@cking dog better get a grip on this sh!t. Now I have no tame birds that want to be touched to pet. I didn't care so much before. It was enough that they run up o me for treats. But I had the BLRW from Del that was that way, and Sally. Now I miss the fact I don't have a tame bird around here. :( it sucks @ss.
