I hope Taffy is doing better tonight Mellie. Your DD seemed very concerned. Did you put a heating pad under half of her cage? The wings are odd for sure!
I am heading to bed right now...too much driving today. Got a bit of gardening done and missed the first day of the fair for the first time in 20 years! It kind of felt good too!
There is a heating pad hanging on one side of the kennel.... DD was worried the duck would poop on it but the whole thing is washable. The duck seems to be doing OK, she is not right though and is VERY quiet so I know something is up. The kids are happy to have her here back at home......stupid city...
had a bazillion skeeters in my hen house this week.
Thjis morning I heard maybe here, who knows, anyway, vinegar and dishsoap. I put a mason jar with these two ingredients sitting in the coop where the chickens could not get at it and tonight I went to collect eggs and NO skeeters in the coop.
Just thought I would pass along this bit of wisdom.
I think that concoction works well for catching fruit flies (I do a mason jar + a paper funnel). Nice to know it works for mosquitos.. will have to try it!
good eve, I was outside until 9:30 PM.. skeeters didn't bother me much.. maybe it was because of all the smoke from burning out the stump.. I started that project way late this afternoon.. I will have to go at it again tomorrow.. I got a good fire going on the stump with some old ratty cedar boards.. then I set a box fan about 2 feet from the fire and made like a blast furnace.. It worked really well,, the secret is to not let ash build up.. ash insulates and prevents burning on the stump..
Dropped hubby off at the airport at 5:30 this morning, he'll be gone for 2 weeks... doing a fuel specialist school at Ft Dix NJ. Lots of projects in my head to work on while he's gone, but I probably won't finish anything I have a hard time focusing on one thing at a time!!
I get a big kick out of those coops made out of the plastic playhouses, think they're adorable! Found a cheap one on a local rummage sale group and picked it up today. A log cabin. So we'll see how my version ends up! I'll have to convince my dad to let me use some of his power tools
Played with my sister's chicks today and gave them some sticks to climb on. They are SO skittish compared to my 3. Ours climb all over us, one sat on Lily's shoulder last night as she fed it a few mealworms. The kids decided on names for the 5 babies at my sister's house.. Pepsi, Cola, Crush, SevenUp, and GrapeSoda LOL.
I better close out the browsers and get some editing done. Two sessions to go til I'm caught up. Should make myself a cup of coffee and knock these out!!

The BF is trying to hatch out some of our Call eggs. He only put seven in and they all died except for two....
We need to finish coyote and fox proofing his Turkey pen soon. Buggers left his Tom turkey without any hens. Poor thing has nothing to do so he hangs out with goslings and baby turkeys.
I have a hard time focusing on one thing at a time!!
