Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

State vet said sulmet isn't very good and give me the Corid instructions. I also was advised to give probiotics in feed while medicating, which im using Probios 1tsp per quart of feed.

Garage door may have to wait until it cools down. We got one track up and first panel. Too much sweat running in our eyes. Besides being eaten alive by mosquitos.

I read in (The Chicken Health handbook I believe) that during the treatment not to give any vitamins as Corid acts a sa thiamine (and something else?) blocker. I will try and check tonight and post.

Is the ground up apple for nutrition? Is it still ok to give him his yogurt and garlic durring treatment? Vets dont seem to know the answers to these kind of questions when it comes to chickens. Heck! When I had turkey questions, they wouldn't even talk to me!
I had to ask 4-h people. And they were all like, off with their heads! I love them, and plan to show/ breed some. So, not an option for me, unless untreatable.
Using ground up apple seeds will only give trace amounts of cyanide to support the use of corid. Cocci nor worms do well with when exposed to cyanide or arsnic.

I read that as well..and read that using corid can give wry neck like symptoms and can also mock Mareks symptoms. That is why I stopped using it. Scared me too much.

I would give garlic and yogurt, not additional vitamins in the water or food. The drug blocks thiamine and those vitamins give thiamine. So it is counter productive.

Acid in the gut is what you need. Cocci do not like an inhospitable gut.

I am switching my FF back to ACV and not using LABS anymore. I think the ACV was working better for the flock.

I have nothing to contribute to the cocci conversation, sorry. But DH & I went out to identify our trees (just on the perimeter in the front yard). We have 6 black maple and 10 sugar maple

So, to Cuties & either unka or JJ (I don't remember), please PM me with details on the buckets that you offered up, the location that you purchased yours, etc. We will be tapping our trees this Spring and want to get a head start on collecting all of our supplies, cheaply (but not crappy quality)!

I had my first day of jury duty....yuck. Unfortunately, I am expected to keep returning throughout the week until I get called or Friday at 4pm comes around, which ever comes first!

I echo everyone that has commented on the humidity and skeeters. I had to put on a bunch of spray just to change the water for the chickens and to go out identifying trees. I figured I'd come in to do a few things, cool off and head back out after a drink.

Ok, going out to measure size of trees now.

Delisha, you are FF with lab. Are you also adding acv to their water?

At this time I only do meat birds. But I'm always experimenting to compare feed v.s. health & weight ratio.
This next group I plan on doing ff w/lab, and acv in water supply.

I raise for family. To date the ff feed birds on acv have won the taste contest ( not close ).

Will never do meaties on dry feed only again. The main lesson learned, was the amazing performance of lab that I sprayed in the coop and feed/watering areas of the run.

I gotta ask, what does the LAB do in the coop and the run?

I plan to raise some meaties in tractors and use FF(I already use FF grains with the flock),,,just have not seen info on what spraying would do
