Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I am with upu judy. Its a sh! T road. But the customer service should be better!!! Maybe time for a new vet.

Frenchie, my dogs tried to jump in the kids pool. Just a little work with them cured it. I have no advi ce for pigs, goats, and ducks. O, and donkeys, and horses, and.......;-)

Cuties I wish I could..small town has 2 vets and I dont think the other one would even test chickens..an older vet who thinks farm animals are just that.

So now i am tryign to decide-Corid again or Sulmet? Sulmet is so harsh and shes so skinny...and still weak..or Corid again? THe Corid was workign but just not getting them all. I am thinking I should try the Sulmet and hope to knock it once and for all.

Afternoon All...yep, the backyard flocks really have to figure out what's going on without a lot of expensive help, that really doesn't help much. Angie, you are doing a great job and have a good handle to what's going on...trust yourself...you are doing great! We can't save them all...but...we can do the best we can....hands down..it's your best option. As you know.

Suzie and jennie went fishing this morning early...brought back 35 nice keeper blue gills.....got them on ice for cleaning later...gotta love those fisherwomen!

Welcome to the new folks...great place for good friends! Visit often and stay awhile.

Hi all--just sitting here in front of the AC window unit. I decided not to go to the kids' garden at 4. I am meeting the other in charge person at 8 and we will work on it then...perhaps it will be slightly cooler? At any rate I am hitting the lake after for a quick swim (and wash off!) THe horses are standing in front of the barn fan again today. It blows the opposite way but it must keep the bugs off and make some circulation. If I blow it towards them they dont seem to like it as much.
My Cocci update: ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH So my DD waited around for 20 mins for medication yesterday they finally said they would call her when it was ready-no call. I call this morning-they said they would call me back. When they did, it was a vet tech that didnt know anything about it. I said I had given Corid...she starts spelling out apromilllium-I said thats the same thing. So she says well there is a list here you can come pick up and decide what you want to treat them with. I asked if I needed to treat my main flcok-no they should be fine if seperated-I then explained how contagious cocci is. I asked about treating for the 2 roundworm eggs-if that was a normal range or above average and to treat...she didnt know. I asked if EPrinex could be used on chicks 3.4-4 months....didnt know. Basically she wants me to come pick up the print out and get off the phone with her.
COuld you imagine if you were "just" a backyard keeper and didnt have this resource to use? You got chickens for the easy eggs and nothing else? Yeah, and they wonder why people drop them off at shelters....if a vet's office cant even take the time to help you it's no wonder!

Good luck with whatever you decide. I have used Sulmet and I didnt think it was too hard on them. In fact I didnt even notice a difference. I just dumped it in the water, they drank and all was good! I have tried using that Denagard stuff and it is so bitter even with the very slight concentration that the birds wont drink unless I add corn syrup! THat was a pain for sure.

I hate that I get feeling so good sitting here by the AC...I want to do something (anything) but as soon as I get up it is way too hot and I feel like I will pass out! Good grief, we have become such pups...I dont think it is any warmer now than it used to be. I also have the guy waiting for me to call him to bring another load of hay! Yup--neighbor is outside baling as I type.

At least this load is only 90...hoping for a break in the weather...
I didnt have to drive to Dousman today t look at those panels JJ--the guy sold them last night. HE knew I was coming today too...I guess he didnt want to take the chance of me not showing. At least he sent me a message.

Shoot...maybe I should take a nap? Kinda feel like it all of a sudden. SUre doesnt help that it is so dark in here--lights make me HOT!
I hear ya Frenchie on needing a lot of sleep...I do best with 9 hours (maybe 10!) missing out on a lot of my life by sleeping so much I think.

Making chicken for dinner--I sure hope that DH or DS will grill it--I dont want to start the oven for sure!
OK--giving in to the nap urge...I think a half hour will make me feel lots better!

Bbp, I hope your chickies are ok. And that dog is now under control. I know your feeling. I have a neighbour with a dog like that. Even with fencing the property, I constantly worry.
Actually, one of my cockerels has a hip out of socket now (I think). I need to cull him but haven't done it yet. He must be in a lot of pain. It makes me mad, the guy didn't care at all that his pet was attacking mine. I told him if she killed one of my ducks I would kill her. He didn't think that was funny.

Actually, Dr. Clausen has retired. There are 2 new vets in there now. But I would personally take any sample to Clear Lake. She is inexpensive, honest and knowledgeable. I would not go to Northwest for any type of vet service (other than having the cat shaved or an animal spayed) -no comment from BigFam please. Dr. Armstrong is too expensive and honestly, not that good.

Aw bbp, that sucks! Bad! To was telling me the other day there is a way of popping the leg back in. Maybe worth a shot if your attatched to thanks one :'(

Judy, I have only used sulmet on the one hen. But the farmers in my area stand by it. I did read it does not treat as many strains of cocci. I hope this all works out for you. I am happy you seperated her in time.

Terri, once again I am jealous!!!!!!!!
