Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good Evening....

Dr.H....yep, I shoveled out most of the pen area today for the girls. I of course had to spread straw around on the ground or they would of never stepped a foot out...

My flock absolutely hates the snow.

I cook up warm treats for them when the brutal cold sets in. Today it was venison heart fryed in bacon drippings....

They approved with a empty serving bowl.

You just gotta love those pretty hens!

Good Morning! I'm pleasantly surprised with their adapting to the snow, glad their getting out to exercise. Most of them are out right now cleaning up the leftovers from dumping out the feeder. And I set the tater peelings on the wood stove earlier so it would be warm for them. Yes fordmommy they are spoiled but I like doing it. A pampered chicken is a happy chicken. Mine grin a lot! Hard to see unless you look real close. Their pampering seems to pay off 11 eggs this morning! I'm begining to think that B might become daddy's little girl. She certainly isn't your run of the mill bird. Time to do the xmas cards and knock off a few more items on the list. Enjoy your day!

My kids have fallen in love with chickens and won't settle for the four we're allowed in the city. Of course it doesn't help that people are constantly offering us free chickens! Alas, it looks like we're going to have to move to the country when my lease is up here next summer! The kids are really happy about that idea since they want to live on a real farm and get a couple of goats at least and since I'm a knitter, I'd like to get a couple of sheep. Of course we'd need lots of room to garden. I'm trying to figure out what's the least amount of space we could rent and a friend of mine told me she thinks I could easily find a half acre or so not too too far from the city but still in the country so not "off the grid" per se. And, of course, we'd have our chickens! Yesterday we met a wonderful older couple who live on the border of the city who have a LOT of chickens. I wonder if their property is grandfathered in? It was great seeing how they take care of them and my kids had the time of their lives.

I hope everyone is having a grand ole time with the white stuff. Brrr!

Poor Zohbug!! She obviously got pecked hard and has contracted the dreaded chickentitus. She's showing all the classic symptoms. Smiling, laughing, and thoughts of expansion. Here's a little music that might ease your transition. Goose Creek Symphony "Whupin it!" And a John Prine that at the moment escapes me but it goes something like this. Blow up your TV, eat a lot of peaches, plant a little garden, move the country and build you a home. A lot of truth in both artists music.

Hello all! Sounds like everyone is doing well. All are enjoying the snow and cold weather. I like the snow hate the cold. 30 and sunny is perfect winter weather for me. We got 16 inches of the white stuff this week. It has been a miserable two weeks for me. Thanksgiving was good had all the family over and all went well. Then the following day my dog wandered off.

She is now been missing for 2 weeks. God it's hard without her. Did everything we could do and called everyone we could. So if anyone is in Dodge county and sees a black dog with red collar wondering around give me a shout. Miss her so much. As for the snow, the man that plows us out got hurt 2 days before it snowed and couldn't so we had to find someone at the last minute to dig us out. All four girls have this never ending cold and are miserable. The water lines in the barn froze so we have been running a hose down there and that of course froze. When will it end?

So very tired.
Sounds like everyone is ready for Christmas. Baked cookies with the in-laws yesterday. Always fun. We sit around drink coffee and gossip. They are good people. Gave my mother in-law a hard time about her coop. Scolded her about her waterer. It was kinda funny. They all then started calling the crazy chicken lady. Guess thats what I turned into. Take care everyone. Remember to hug your pets tonight.
Also hello to everyone thats new.

Good Afternoon.....Wow the Pack beat the Bears today in a real close game. I'm glad they won!

becky, I hope your dog finds his way home...The not knowing what's going on makes things worse, eh!
My friend Jim told me about a electric water hose that he bought from fleet in St Point I think. He loves it and it works great. I think they are so much a foot.

Yep, I think Zohbug is going to need to move into the country. Once one does...they ain't going back to town, except for shopping or going to work. Then out of there as soon as possible and back to the real life!

Good to hear everyone is fine.

Please let us know if she comes back. Hopefully she's just with some nice family who thought she was lost.

Beckyschicks, call all the humane societies around and give them a description of your dog; if they get one that fits they'll call you.
Years ago my grandparents had one of their Springer spaniels run off close to hunting season. She was gone for weeks. They put up fliers all over, and someone called to say they had found her. Well, when they picked her up, she was all groomed and clipped, had a new collar; the guy (who was from IL) was going to keep her! I think he had even taken her back to IL with him at first. Thankfully he had enough decency to return her to my grandparents.
Not knowing is the worst. But there is hope!
