Still working on Christmas cookies and candy... Christmas at the in-laws this weekend. Maybe I'll get my shopping finished this week!

Good Evening to Everyone....

babylady4 sounds you have the right idea about splitting Christmas up on different weeks to be able to share the holidays with everyone. The larger the extened family gets, the more conflics arise causing timing to be a real issue.

I have 3 brothers with their own inlaws wanting the big day. Mom then feels hurt when folks don't stay as long as she would like. Everyone has more than one place to be.

Different weeks for the big event makes sence. Knowing my 88 year old mother. She ain't givin up Christmas Day. Which is the way it should be anyway.

Me & Suzie have most of the shopping to do yet. I think Christmas is stressful.

Looks like we will be out and about in the cold weather. Oh well, sure beats the alternative...

Got almost all our shopping done. Got most done on Friday and I went back to Kmart today to get the last 2 things. And then a bonus....they were on sale. I didn't find out until I got to the register. From $23.49 to $14.99. They are R/C cars. My kids saw a comerical for them and one said, "I want the yellow one." And the other said, "I want the green one." So that's what I got. Not like they don't have enough. But they're only young once. And Walmart didn't have ANY!

Just gotta get the thing for DH on pay day. From Sears; they have a Craftsman auto hammer for tight spaces.

I want that too! $99.99. And gotta stop at Fleet Farm to pick up some new slippers for him. The ones with fleese on the inside.

I broke down and am putting light in the coop for the girls. And I put in a lamp for heat. But does any one know where I can get a RED ligh that is about 60w???? I could only find a party light with 25w or a HEAT lamp of 240w. Don't they make something in between???? Let me know if you've seen any thing. Thanks.

Another cold blast is on the way. Are you ready????

Good Evening...
fordmommy, I use the red 250watt heat lamps. I also use the reflector for brooding with the lamp. I've never seen anything inbetween the 25 and 250 either. Maybe you'll have to just use a white lamp in the watt you desire.

Still need to do the shopping. Almost got at it today...

Maybe tomorrow we'll start....

Yep gonna be a cold one tonight. I can see the red light in the coop window from the house. I'm sure it's not as warm as it looks.

That's what I'm doing now. I have a 60w white light in there now. I feel bad though. They are used to having it dark for bed. Are they going to be able to get good sleep???? I don't sleep well with the light on.

I was on another post somewhere on here and a person said that they found a 85w red flood light at Walmart. I checked on line, but didn't find anything. I'll be going to Point on Friday anyway so I'll stop in there then. Can't hurt to look. I'm pretty inventive too. So if I can't buy what I want...I'll have to make something that will do. I have a red glass hanging lamp that I bought from a rummage sale this summer for $2.00. I wanted it to go in my oldest room but it might go for the chickens.

The Wisconsin Entrepreneur Network just published an article about Purely Poultry getting its start.
Bird Man Wins Business Plan Competition

Tyler Danke, 2009 UW-Oshkosh Business Plan Competition winner, combined an interest in poultry and an entrepreneurial drive to form his winning business, Purely Poultry. The $400 cash prize along with valuable advice from the competition judges helped Danke to get his business flying higher.

“That was the best part –the critique of my business from the judges,” states Danke, who used that advice to advance his wholesaling company.

The bird business is nothing new to this young entrepreneur. While in high school Danke and his brother started Danke Bros Poultry at his parents' farm. “We had a little hatchery, and we sold $15,000 worth of baby chicks my senior year in high school,“ notes Danke.

Today Danke is in his fourth year at UW-Oshkosh. He no longer raises the birds himself, but has formed partnerships with breeders throughout the nation to fill orders for chickens, ducks, geese, pheasants and other poultry.

“I have 200 to 300 types of poultry I’m working with. I sell to anyone that wants between 1 and 10,000 birds,” says Danke.

To get his business off the ground, Danke went to Tony Goebel at Oshkosh Area Economic Development Corp.

“I met with Tony to discuss financing. He also gave me advice on my business plan and referred me to the Small Business Development Center (SBDC),” says Danke. “The SBDC has helped me get my business plan written. That assistance was very valuable. Phil Florek at SBDC helped me to find out what was missing in my plan.”

In addition to birds, Danke sells books and poultry supplies through Purely Poultry, which he hopes will grow to a level that will provide a full-time income for himself and his wife in 2010, while he finishes his finance degree at UW-Oshkosh.

Good Evening...
Congrats to you Tyler.

When all the hard work pays off, it must make you feel beauuuuutiiiiful....way to go!

I use the heat lamps during the more extreme cold. When nights stay above zero, I don't use the lamps. The flock definitly gets cranky when the light is on 24/7 for a extended period of time.

Mine already miss the green grass and outdoor freedom. While they can go out in the pen attached to the coop, it's not the same as looking for bugs.

Me & Suzie made it to Appleton today for some Christmas shopping. Picked up quite a few things. We are going back Friday to hopefully finish the job?
