Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hey bigfam...just to tell ya that bars on a self-blue (lavender) bird is a DQ in the show ring! I was talking to the judge after he DQed my lavender ameraucana bantam last year and he said, "I dont know how to explain how/why it happens; that's why I dont breed self-blues!" I gave him to Carol...
Hah! See? I told you my girls weren't slutting around!

Thank you, Terri. I can't say I've ever hatched out one with barring before. Bigfam must have screwed something up in the incubating process.

Heather, if you don't want the barred chick, I will trade you for one of mine. I have 2 that just hatched on Friday & Saturday. Do you have any pics of Hershey Kisses wings?

BBP, that is wonderful that you would vaccinate and have a stray fixed.

Vicki, so sorry about your battery hens. I had 2 BAs & liked them very much. Unfortunately mine did not live long, probably due to bad genetics? Anyway, they are very attractive birds and lay extremely well. But now that I have black orpingtons, I much prefer them. I think they are even friendlier & calmer than the Aussies, and I just love how huge and poofy they are. Huge cabooses!

Good luck in whatever you choose.

Deli, no, no blue Hershey babies. I have 2 brown ones that I think are both boys, one black girl with hints of brown, and 3 blacks. Do you have any pics of your chick?
Irish, great story about Danny Boy!

Welcome Bobi! Hope you like it here.

TO

Portage show is not for a while. September 28th and 29th.
I gave an early heads up so people have time to condition and train birds.

The little early hatched chick that came from the eggs in pen one is a cross. He has puffy cheeks and cute as can be.
Quote: I have not taken any pictures or the new chicks. I was going to today, but I burned some wood and weeded today.

HI All!
Not feeling all that great tonight. I got a little cleaning done outside but that was about it.

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

A Hawk got one of my PR hens today

Rudy chased it off before it ate much, makes me think it will be back for another try!

At least it won't go to waste. Young Son talked to the Falconer at the Ren. Fair and he'll take any casualties this summer.

Well, going to try to hit the hay early...night all!

Hi everyone!! Been super busy here. Twice now I've written a long post, but then poor all of a sudden it disappeared....so gave up.
I took some picts yesterday of the teenager peep peeps:). I have 3 obvious roosters and about 3 questionable, so I was hoping to get some expert opinions:) the 3 obvious are crowing away:)

Grrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!

I hate posting from my phone!

Having a great time down here, but then again I usually do...

Nice pic Terri! You and the hubs look really nice!

Taffy is doing well back at the farm. She still has a limp and does not fly, but she keeps up with the other two and they are all happy to be back together.

Well, I suppose I should get up and get dressed. We have a lot to do today!

Everyone have a great day!

:thumbsup. That's why decided to reach out here first where I know there are knowledgeable, responsible flock keepers that I can trust! :love

And a big THANK YOU to everyone for the kind words.

Ok, so, how about this morning???? Could have happened over the weekend when all the good stuff was going on but hey, after a 39o reading early this morning I'll take it on Monday :)

Hope everyone has a great week

Nice cool morning all!

Wanted to post here about an event on Facebook for Julie: its an online auction to raise funds for the family as she goes thru cancer treatment and can't work. There are lots of things to bid on, mostly jewelry (earrings, necklaces, zipper pulls, bracelets), some photos and note cards I chipped in, and a very cool buffalo skull painted by an artist who is a good friend of the family. There are some Packer themed and chicken items too! Proceeds go directly to Julie and her fam. Please consider joining and bidding if you're on FB to help out our fellow Cheesehead! <3

Here is the event page:

And the page to see the items and place bids:

CC, heading South this afternoon! I cannot wait to hit the road and escape for a few days....... hang out with adults, drink and get silly..... sounds like the Chickenbash!

I need to find SOMEBODY around here who has eggs, and I mean not a long drive but just outside of town..... if any of you southeners have extras I will gladly stop in and buy a few doz. I love that TO's eggs traveled across the country with us on our trip!

Poor DH, he is going to get a little culture while we are down in IL. We are going to see a concert at Ravinia and take along the required wine and cheese picnic. Good thing he is a good sport about all of this and is smart enough to indulge his wife!

So the plan for today is get the kids packed up and over to the grandparent's place, get back home and pack for myself, get DH to pack his stuff, get the car loaded up, and then hit the road....... my only request is that it warms up!
So when are you planning to head back north? We live just off of US 41/the I (eventually) and would love to have you over for a bit, if possible.
