Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Going over to the neighbors tonite to help him work on the old coop on his property... he is taking 4 of my young pullet Olive eggers I was going to sell but told him he can have them if he wanted chickens... he said yes about 3 weeks ago, and am getting anxious to get rid of the extra birds I no longer want to feed and house.
We were up north this weekend and all we did was sit around the fire trying to stay warm... what a shocker it was in temps... the worst of it was my MIL and aunt came from Iowa and CO and all they did was complain about how cold it was.... ugh... I told them be glad they can now say they were in WI when we set a record low... lol...
Nice day out today now that we are back at work...

Good grief I've had a FRENCHIE day (minus the Dr' s) and it's not even two o'clock yet!!!
Morning went OK. Garlic harvested, bean patch cleaned out, then,
POW. The solid organic waste hits the air circulation device :barnie

First, I look towards Noodle (my all white little mutt pullet) and her entire head is so covered in blood I can't tell where it's coming from! :barnie. Grab her up and head for the house and into the kitchen sink. Finally got her cleaned up enough to figure out the back end of her comb looks like it was cut off clean with a pair of scissors! No clue what happened. Clean her up best I can, which she actually took pretty well and even seemed to enjoy the warm water. Put some neosporin on it and take her back into the yard figuring she would do a little Sun bathing to dry off. NOPE. Straight for the nearest dusting spot and within minutes my white chicken was anything but
Next, hubby decides if crockpot is starting to go downhill (which she was, this weather took it's toll I think) and she has been getting so cranky (and violent) she could well have been responsible for Noodle' s damage, it might as well be taken care of now. I Isadly agree, get her ready, say goodbye, hand her off, wrapped in a towel, and quickly head for the porch. (Yes, I was too much of a coward t watch) Before I can even take a breath, I see my three young girls, the red sex-links, all excited about something so I look and there is a Huge long haired grey cat trying to get thru the second fence to where they are and the dumb dumbs are chattering at it! :barnie again. The thing is bouncing off fences, I'm trying to corner it, my little dog is in on what it perceives to be great fun, the chicks are right in there chattering away, finally it gets thru the inner fence into the garden and right into the area where Noodle is!!! I'm able to.scoot Noodle out of the line of fire, more bouncing off fences then finally this dumb, and very fat, very wet (was making sure there was no doubt in this cat's mind it was NOT welcome) cat manages to get
over an outer fence and disappear. Noodle comes over and tugs on my pants, I pick her up and check her over, no new bleeding so everybody gets a few mealworms and I head for the house for a well earned fresh.cuppa wishing it was something a bit stronger. :th

good afternoon,, I had to make a trip to F&F for a hair pin .. the one on the mower stuck out too far and was rubbing on he V-belt.. no wonder they wear out so fast,, I did a quick test run in front of the house.. all was working well, so I quit while I was on an up-beat..

Well Colton, I guess it is time for a poultice .. try your baking soda paste .. You might have to re-apply it , or at least keep it moist,, It does little good after it dries out..

I might have to water the garden again.. not much rain here lately.. sounds like we will get a little on Wed.. that is too far out to wait..

The chicken gods look down on me!!

I don't know what I did wrong.... another pullet down, well limping. Not taking the risk of letting her walk around like last time, separated. That's just my luck..

The taming of the stray cat is going quite well. I worked on him most of the day yesterday and he finally let me touch him. Then I called the kids over to pet him too. He's still pretty skiddish, but is really starting to warm up to us. I took a bunch of cat food samples from work today so the kids can bring him out one of those every day. So, I think we'll keep working on him for the next week or so, then he can go to the vet and get neutered and vaccinated. I wish the dog would quit chasing him though. He may end up running him off.
