just because they are adults, does not make them mature..
I would bald face tell them to cut back..  I wouldn't want a friend like that..  they are animal hoards..  they think they love animals,  and maybe they do,  but what they are doing is wrong..

they probably can't afford to go to a vet, so on that note, they should not have animals..  or just have what they can afford to feed, at least..

Cat just fell off the counter again! That's twice tonight! (BTW... she's the only one allowed up there because she's afraid of the dog and the other cats. She has a "spot" where she can go, but nowhere else.) Anyway, she sleeps so close to the edge, she rolls off!

BL4..... I think the older your kids get the older they make you feel! LOL I'm not old enough to have a kind in his late 30's! LOL

Sclark.... If you already tried to talk to your friend about the animals before, then she won't listen if you talk to he now. Yes, it will probably strain you friendship, even if she never finds out it was you who called, but those animals need a rescue! Don't let it get tragic like the ones you hear about on the news.

Clark, I do not beleive they will make a change. No matter how hard you try. And by doing the dirty work for them, things will just get worse. If you feel the animals are poorly kept ( and I also think it sounds like they are) you need to turn them in. I worked at the shelter for a few years. And saw some nasty stuff. It is sad. Because the people really do love the animals and do not realise how poorly they are treating them :-(
Usually there is a root to the hoarding issues. Lime the loss of a family member. Something along the lines... most cases they need therapy to learn to emotionally deal with their issue. It is sad that most never get the therapy, and usually try to get more animals.
I do not understand why they are not utilizing their 10 acres!! My chickens eat very little feed in the summer. And I only have 3 1/2. And they are fat!

Thanks for the condolences.  He was only 66.  He had AML.  He was diagnosed back in August of last year.  Went through all the chemo and the last biopsy that they did in March showed ZERO leukemic cells.  The doctor was shocked that it came back so quickly.  They gave him 3 different chemo's over the course of the 1st 5days he was in the hospital.  His platlets, hemoglobin, and immune system never recovered.  The fungal infection in his lungs started to take over and then the doc told us that the reason his numbers never recovered is b/c the chemo didn't work this time.  Hi lived 2 weeks after we found out about his infection.  Didn't you have leukemia at one point also?  I thought I read that previously?
I am searching for a couple of more hens.    I am down to 5!

Wow, that must have been so hard to be so sure he was ok and then be was gone.. Again, so sorry. I have CML. No cure for me but the drugs are working great to keep things under control. Sweet of you to ask

I will be getting a couple of nice Aussie pullets from Terri maybe this week if we can figure out how to get them up here. Aussies are great birds and she has some off a very good line, you should check in with her.

Good morning everyone! Guess what?
Dh wakes me up and tells me to come downstairs. I keep asking what's wrong, and he keeps looking thru the windows and the fog. Pretty soon I see one of our sex links with 6 tiny fluff balls following behind.

. I had no idea. I thought she had just gone missing. So....now what? She is in our lawn. I saw three of the other hens near her, but most troubling to me is our dog. Even though I love that she is out there with them in the grass I think I should move her to the brooder. What do you all think? And how do I move her?

Congrats on the new clutch of chicks. How fun and exciting.
She obviously has had the chicks for a few days. Perhaps she has trained the dog to leave the chicks be.

Mom's can be pretty aggressive. Has your dog killed any birds in the past?If the dogs has killed some, I see your concern. I can just advise to watch him and see if he is interested in killing chicks. Some dogs are opportunistic killers and will kill when chicks get excited and run. Mine charges and bites at birds when they approach her when she is eating. (Their feed) 5 minutes later she is laying in the sun and they are grooming her, so its a odd relationship.


As far as putting them in the brooder..That is a decision you have to make.
