Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Goth you've got some cute little chickies!!! Good on you, where is the brooder and how will you be keeping them warm this winter? I also noticed your tag line, saying you're looking for bantam white silkies....I thought all silkies were bantams??? Am I wrong?

Well, I've been keeping up on my reading, from my little hand held smartphone (I've got a new rule...Never give a smartphone to a dumb person), but it's too tough typing to stay in touch. So here it is Thursday night, and the weekend for me just started, and I've got an opportunity to check in, finally.

H & R your birds are doing really well, they've acclimated and I've yet to introduce them to the flock other than having their cage in the coop...but I let them out first thing in the morning, and they're sniffing around! We named the talkative one Pistol because she's got a lot of personality, for sure.

I'll be working on the coop for a good portion of the day tomorrow, I've got to get some of the winterizing done, build another roost, get some lights put up for more morning light, and set up heat lamps for the really cold nights...because they are coming, sooner or later.

Doc keep scraping, if I was there I'd kick back, have a beer and complain about how my back hurts just watching you work!

So i got a late phone call from the surgeon's assistant at 6 o clock.. they got some very prelim info on my shoulder from the fluid taken out today.
A bacteria infection, probably traveled up from my abcess near my knee. bad news.. its IN my joint.. that is going to be tough.
SO phone calls tomorrow, probably try to see them or get pharmacy visit for more meds.
Seeing my primary doc tomm for pain relief.

But on top of this, helping a nice lady with a young horse, getting chickens to take to the monroe swap, then making curry kissed chicken w/ basmati rice and Naan!! mmm

See ya tomorrow, and give me a good thought!

By the way .. this site, and all of you ROCK!!!!

DRh glad you have the glue on the run that's a grump no matter how you do it!

WIchch glad to hear they at least have the problem figured out now you just have to wait to find out the cure. Thanks for the heads up about the silkie roo but I allready have 3 and that's 2 too many for only 11 hens. Might have to send some to freezer camp. But so far they are all getting along pretty well together! No fighting at all the little cochin banty is top dog over the two standard roos wich is actually hilarious.

Well everyone have a good night

Thanks! It's going to be hard to figure out which ones I want to keep. As for the cold weather I don't really have to worry about it because my chickens are illegal so they are all kept indoors. I am only keeping a few chickens at my house. My grandmother is letting me build a coop on her yard because I wanted to start breeding and hatching some of my own chickens so obviously I can't hide a rooster at my place.

As for the silkies I have heard different answers. On BYC everyone says they are only bantams but if you look at Ideal and McMurray they offer standard or bantam silkies. Even the silkie chicks I got with my bantam assortment order are a lot bigger then the other chicks. So I'm not really sure.

A very belated good morning! My computer was broken because of "cat-like typinave lunch together g" that went on on Tuesday. I really have got to keep those cats off of face book! My DH the computer wiz fixed it but all of the icons and avatars are missing on this site. I think he took some stuff off because it was running so slowly....gotta get them back for this site at least--they make me laugh and that is a good thing!

So much news to catch up on and all I can remember that I wanted to say is that those silkie chicks look like they are made of plastic! Their feathers dont even look real in one of the pics! SO CUTE!

News here has Frankie the choc. Muskovy with her 4th(?) batch of ducklings! She hatched all the eggs-12-but one didnt make it. THe hen in the barn has gone down to 9 chipmunk chicks now and the 2 other white muskovies have 8 or 9 each! I should be going to the Beaver Dam swap with them for sure! I am away scrap booking for the weekend though. Not going to be fun to be inside for probably the last good one either!
I sure hope MOther Nature can pull out one more for our meet-up next weekend! Fordmommy any others coming and Becky, what say we meet at 1 at the Horsemen's Camp? We could just all bring picnic fixin's and have lunch together and a nice chat. Becky, are you bringing horses so we can have a ride? My DH doesnt ride so I am hoping to meet up with some others that I can ride with...or I can ride alone...that is nice too!

OK I have to get ready to go to my scrappin' weekend. Talk to you all later! Terri O

What is the final information for the meet-up? Maybe we could do a formal post for anyone just scanning the pages. I am thinking of going but IDK how well we would fit in. If I do end up going I would be willing to bring some birds with me if any one is looking for anything.

Terri I'll be there pending weather. If it's raining we won't be there, but if it doesn't, we will be bringing horses. My DH does ride, if he had a choice he probably won't but knows how I can't live without it, so he goes. 1 it is and lunch would be nice together. If we go earlier I'll let you know then maybe we can ride before we eat and then after too. We'll see. Goth Chick- We are meeting I think on the 23(correct me if I'm wrong TO) at Palmyra Horseman's park. I have to ask DH what road that's on. Bring lunch for you and yours. No cost, although it is a state park. I have know idea who's coming besides TO, Fordmommy, and myself. Hope this helps. Well gotta go!

Good to hear the harvests are coming in, DrH is getting his house back, and doctors are getting to the bottom of things. And hello to the new faces, and congrats on the new chicken additions

Oh amyable that's a beautiful egg! We are crazy chicken people and we love it. I posted mine on FB too and my first quail egg on here and FB. Alot of people laughed at me on FB, but I don't care. To me the eggs are a sympol of all the hard work you do. It's your reward. Speaking of eggs I've been getting anywhere from 4 to 6 a day lately. Thats with artifical light. I figured they took the whole summer off, they can lay all winter. I have a question though, will they still go broody even though it's cold outside? I was just down there and was wondering that, thought I would ask. Well take care everyone!

Well I finally got the news from the aspiration... and its not good.

I have a staff infection IN my shoulder, I got this panicky phone call asking me to come in yesterday, I said I will try but have an Appt at 10:30 but will try to get from 25 miles outside of Madison to middleton by noon...
I am trying to get there. By 12:15 and still on the road.. NOT gonna happen so I call them to see about rescheduling.
But I was due to pick up chickens at 1:30 and had a 3:40 appt with a colleague of my Primary doc for pain control.
So I am sitting in a truck, driving to a friends house, I babysit one day a week for them and was due to get paid.
The Psh. Asst. put me on hold to talk to a colleague of MY surgeon, as I am saying just give me some good antibiotics and I had an appt to see MY surgeon on Monday.
(I fired my original one, and got one I was doing follow ups with after my surgery)
The assistant is panicking because they think I might possibly be going septic... I have been dealing with this for 2 weeks now. I went and bought a thermometer because they wanted to know
if I had been having a temp...
I think my surg is out for a long weekend or out of town, the Asst, and the other Surg. are going into surgery to work on some one at 1pm.. and they wanted to admit me to the hospital
and schedule a weekend surgery...
somad.gif
they didn't want to do antibiotics because they wanted to be able to get a clean culture when they open me back up.. which the Asst. then realized already
happened YESTERDAY.. with the aspiration.. duh...
Then comes the bad part.. I WILL need surgery, they are going to have to go in, clean everything out, REMOVE the hardware the other doc put in, put in all NEW hardware...
And I start all over again... and may be in IV antibiotics, like I was w/ my knee.
he.gif

I get them to listen to reason, and which makes the other Surgeon breathe a sigh of relief, cuz he is more of a wrist or knee guy, not a shoulder guy... my surgeon IS...
I feel fine, except the pain in my arm.. which is getting a little worse. OR I am getting used to the pain meds they had me on.
SO I get giant antibiotic pills, some new pain pills from the family doc...
I get the chickens and will be heading out in about 45 mins to have some coffee, drive down to Monroe, and sell some chickens.
I have a horse training session around noon, Sat and Sun, and having a person come pick out a 2-3 hens that I am holding back on Sun, and having a
little boy and his mom come out for a surprise horse/pony afternoon for the little boy, for his birthday.
As some macho guy said in a move..
"I ain't got time to bleed"...I am bright eyed, "bushy tailed", haven't had a temp, I feel fine except the pain, which is now under control!!

sigh.... I wonder about them sometimes.
