Well survived week two of work, but I am wiped. I forgot how wiped,out you get starting a new job. Trying to gt stuff together for bday parties in two weeks...did I mention my sweet son decided to help and mailed both the stamped and non stamped invitations...so now we wit for them to come back to resend them out. Sanding and repainting the porch will hopefully be finished this weekend. So close to done on that. Need to dig up a rosé that looks horrible this year and find a new one to put in its spot. It is right under a main floor window and is a nice protection..just in case. Looks good there too. This one has been gorgeous every year for past seven years and then this year is dying and scraggly... No,clue.
Chickens are finally finishing up molting. Three guineas are getting so cute. Still can't tell sex... I know it is one bark or two, but I don't hear it. If anyone is doing a butcher clinic this fall, I might have a few birds to out in a they are getting older...and then find a few nice pullets to,replace them with. I need to think about good breeds for the kids and 4 h for next year. I don't know if bantams are easier for them to handle when they are younger....but I prefer large fowl for eggs since I have a bunch of random bantams right now. JJ...if you are still interested in a d'uccle... I have an 18 month old for you...

I got a call yesterday from a guy from Point looking for RIR if anyone has some for sale I have the contact.

I also finally got my vet report from my roo autopsy and it states that MG was neg.

Slide 1-Ventriculous, Proventriculous-No Significant microscopic lesions were found.
Spleen-Randomly scattered septic vascular thrombosis is found.
Trachea-A mild diffuse subacute tracheitis is noted.
Slide 2 Liver-No significant microscopic lesions were found.
Heart-There is a moderate diffuse nonsuppurative epicarditis.
Slide 3-Kidney, Lung-No significant microscopic lesions were found.
Slide 3,4-Intestional Sections-There is diffuse colloid atrophy and blunting. Numerous Hexamita are found in cecal crypts.

Final Diagnosis:
Intestinal parasitism-etiology Hexamitis

Comments:
Hexamita is a small protozoan parasite that effect the cecum and large intestine. Unfortunately, there is no known treatment. Antibiotics like chlortetracycline have helped reduce the clinical signs but not eliminate infection.

Has anyone heard of this Hexamita parasite? I haven't had a chance to Google it yet.

see ? I told you I would be back.. I just sold my last 6 hens,, and one Del rooster.. turns out that this boy is a friend of Jordan,, my "Colton" from Mosinee.. I asked him what he and Jordan are going to do when they discover girls .. He said that hunting and fishing come first.. How about that , Colton ?

and DrH,, Dora/Nora is Dora,, I finally caved.. she is coming along slowly, but surely.. her muscles or bones are tight yet.. she moves like she is 12 years old.. I think she hurts a bit..

I sold the cluck to the lady from Mattoon. her chicks didn't even miss her all day.. but tonight, I did not see them in the coop.. maybe they are in the other coop.. I will check when I lock the doors..

Other than for the roosters,, I officially have no chickens older than 14 weeks old.. I have only Buff Orpingtons, Barred Rocks and Delawares.. and except for the clucks 9 chicks, no cross breeds..

I would also be interested in a chicken canning class.  I plan to get back into more canning once I retire.  It's embarrassing . . . both my Mother and Grandmother always canned.  I did when we first started gardening and we were both working full time then.  Hmmm - not sure where that person went to, funny how things change as we age.

Wait...how did I miss this.... You are all more than welcome on a Monday or Friday when I am around...otherwise you have to deal with the attack puppy...who still has a hard time for the first five minutes anyone walks in the house. Would love to improve my canning abilities...maybe not canned ch iken because that sounds gross to me, but anything else. Anyone have extra cucs to sell?

Ok, so, thank you to all for the kind words about my puppy. We all slept a little better last night and she is showing improvement this morning

Wow! 37o next to the house this morning, Geesh!!! Glad my coop is so well insulated. Poor chookies. Speaking of chookies, so far I really like the names giblet, (thanks cuties), and gumbo and general tso if I have a roo ( thanks CL).

Right now I am watching Only in America With Larry the Cable Guy. Good grief! We won't talk about what he did at the dog show

but now he is at CackleHatchery sexing baby chicks!!!! What a hoot!!!

Mr. Gibs original name is Giblet, but I didn't like that his name sounded like a food, so I call him Mr.Gibs. DH & son still call him Giblet.

Hello from Minnesota. I was wondering if anyone could give me any ideas on how big the Beaver Dam swap is? Are there alot of OEGBs (mostly looking for Mille Fleur old english) or any Seramas or Pincheons? It's close to an 8 hour drive, is it worth it and is there anything else interesting in the area if I would make a weekend of it? I'm thinking by the middle of October it will be too cold to camp, are there any cheap hotels in the area? Would you please PM me any info you have? Thanks a bunch!
